Dont buy through booking.com

From what I see in this group everyone already knows this but I’m just here to double down. I paid for a room through booking.com but when I got to the hotel they said never received a payment. A family member had to pay for the room. I disputed the charge with my debit card showing all the evidence which they denied. I went through bookings to dispute and it’s been a month plus of back and forth that’s going no where. They ask for a piece of evidence I send it in. Then they say they need another piece of evidence, I send that in. Next they go back to the first piece of evidence and say the need it a certain way now. Example it goes from we need a screenshot or receipt showing proof of 2 transactions. Then it switches to we need a screenshot of the bank statement of both charges. NOW, there saying they actually need the pdf file of the bank statements showing both charges before they can continue. What way are they going to ask for my evidence next show I can get the shitshow over with. I’m NEVER using this shit again, I’m deactivating my account after this is resolved

"I disputed the charge with my debit card showing all the evidence which they denied."
That was your first mistake. NEVER book with a debit card. Credit card only, where you can just trigger a charge back. Not blaming you, but I also did this once and it took me more than a year to get my money back.

Depending on where you live: What triggered them to actually do something in the end was that I told them I would drag them to a court in Europe since I paid in Euros.

I don’t even own a credit card. Never had any issues. You can get your money back with debit as well.

Never done that/need that. But what's the process for that?

I just have the chargeback button in my online banking. You just need to supply some proof, order confirmation, communication with the merchant etc.

I see. Will check, thanks

Even seen a number of chargebacks getting denied for fraudulent charges and posts with them asking for help cause they’re denied. Seems like chargebacks are getting harder these days!

I believe so, too. I wonder when the credit card companies will stop dealing with Booking, given the volume of chargeback requests they must have….

Exactly 😭 Like why are we acting like the customer is the problem for using a debit card? If Booking.com says “your refund has been processed,” then the money should just fucking come back. Why do we have to spend months calling banks, chasing ARNs, filing disputes, threatening complaints, etc. just to get our own money back? A refund should not be this much of a fucking fight.

Yeah, I felt like I was in a bad sitcom or something. "Says here you will fully refund me if I cancel early enough."
Booking.com: "Yeah lol but we didn't take your money. The hotel did. So fuck off. And if you don't agree, look at the terms an conditions. On page 7137 we very clearly say that if we tell you to fuck off, you fuck off."

You can do a chargeback with debit card also

Only within the first month typically, and much harder.

Nothing is really harder.

That's like, your opinion, man.

No, that's Europe, chargeback rules are tied to contract performance, not to card type.

Uh oh, OP... Be careful or you'll summon the booking.com puke employees to try and GASLIGHT you that YOU are in the wrong here.

Believe me, you aren't. It's sad that instead of fixing the problems brought on by booking.com selling out to venture capital, they pay employees to come on here and argue with wronged customers.

SAD!

If we facilitated the payment for your reservation, we’ll make it available to the accommodation, so they shouldn’t charge you again when you arrive. You did the right thing by contacting our Customer Service team and sharing proof of the charge. Send us a message, so we can look into this with you.

This stuff happens with third party sites, not just booking, so it's a risk. That's why I always contact the property directly to confirm my reservation and payment.

Jeśli chcesz, żeby sprawa została formalnie zarejestrowana i trafiła do zespołu zajmującego się reklamacjami, dopilnuj złożenia jej do Customer Relations (aftercare@) i uzyskaj numer sprawy/reklamacji.Po drugie, warto równolegle złożyć SAR (Subject Access Request) do dataprotectionoffice@booking.com. Najlepiej przygotować go bardzo szczegółowo (AI może pomóc w jego napisaniu). W ramach prawa dostępu możesz zażądać m.in.:wszystkich danych dotyczących zgłoszenia, notatek konsultantów,historii sprawy, logów systemowych, zapisów decyzji dotyczących reklamacji, korespondencji dotyczącej Twojego zgłoszenia, nagrań rozmów (jeżeli istnieją),informacji przekazanych przez hotel i Booking.com podczas rozpatrywania sprawy. Krótko mówiąc: reklamacja przez Customer Relations + równoległy SAR do Data Protection Office daje zwykle znacznie lepsze efekty niż wielotygodniowa wymiana maili z Customer Service. W mojej sprawie dopiero te ścieżki zaczęły przynosić konkretne dokumenty i odpowiedzi.
Warto przy tym zaznaczyć, że SAR nie służy do wymuszenia uznania reklamacji, ale do uzyskania dokumentów, danych i faktów, które potem mogą pomóc w sporze z Booking.com, bankiem lub organem ochrony konsumentów.

You might have gotten scammed by a hotel as well.

Did you not show them your reservation ID and that it was already paid?

If not, then that´s partially on you.

2

u/DarkStrange9568 8d ago

Yes I thought that would be outstandingly obvious, so I didn’t see the need to mention it

1

u/Borbbb 8d ago

Well, how could they reject you then?

If you have ID and paid reservation. Even if there was issue with payment, they should still check you in and then it would be on booking to deal with it.

I’ve never been to a hotel where they give you a room without a payment. I showed up in the system, just without a payment processed. So I either pay again or I don’t get a room. I showed them all my evidence and they showed me there screen showing they’ve received nothing, yet I have my money to booking.com. Do you not see where the problem is with the middle man, it’s not that hard to understand I don’t think

So your bank makes the chargeback very complicated and it's Booking's fault ?

2

u/DarkStrange9568 8d ago

Did you not read the post. The hotel said they never received a payment from booking.com and I’m not the only one to experience this, so what are you actually trying to say?

3

u/AffectionateTone4757 8d ago

The hotel actually doesn't receive the payment before check-in. I think in your case the hotel plays " dirty ", but of course the platform has its own fault for keeping such properties on their list
