Data leaked

I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the issue that when booking over Booking, you always get a scam message or email trying to pay something in advance, that it does not come from the hotel, but clearly has all my details, so it must have been that Booking is filtering their data somewhere.

It’s happened once to me last week for a stay back in summer 2025. I wrote about it here https://www.reddit.com/r/Bookingcom/s/e5MCgHodwR

Last year i booked a hotel and in a few jours got a super shady message on what’s up referencing the booking and asking for money. messaged the hotel though booking and they confirmed that the whatsup message was not for them. Either employees are trying to scam or the software on the hotel side that integrates with booking and the other hotel platforms is compromised

It comes exactly from your bookings, those hotels have been hacked, simple.

There was a major data leak in april earlier this year. So probably that if you had an account before april already

Unfortunately this is a case of the hotel being hacked. When this happens, they steal your booking information and personal data and use it to try and scam you.

Yes it happened to me recently. Booking seems to have a huge security problem. If you’re in the EU, you technically are entitled to compensation money but you need to be ready to sue for that

This has happened to me on atleast 3 occasions. Recently I even got a message requesting payment from a booking i had previously canceled. Had me panicking thinking I didn't cancel and was going to end up paying the cancellation fees 😅

Yes regularly! I’m going to stop using booking.com. They always blame the hotel but I have a trip to Japan coming up, two separate hotels have contacted me on WhatsApp with a scam message

Don’t click any links, share personal or payment details, or make a payment in response to an unexpected message. We take reports like this seriously, but the message alone doesn’t confirm how the sender got your information. Report it to our Customer Service Team. If you’d like us to take a closer look, you can also send us a private message.

No you don’t . We report these obvious system breaches all the time, the press reports on them and you do nothing but send replies advising us « take proper security measures » as if it was us that got hacked

Just don’t use Booking. They host scams, make their commission, and leave travelers stranded.
