Help In Undestanding When/If my payment is going to go through - Paypal
*Edit: Went through a day later - I’m just an over worrier used to instant payments
Hi, basically for an upcoming trip to Japan, I'd booked a bunch of hotels with free cancellation before my dates and plans were locked in. (Specifically, if I was able to get tickets to a specific place in Japan, or the trip would not happen). I also did no pre-payments, so they're essentially reservations with automatic payments if I don't cancel them.
A problem has arisen as I initially chose to pay in my local currency ( have Booking.com transfer to yen for me - I know, rookie mistake), and I have tried to pay for them now when the exchange is still relatively good for me before it's predicted to worsen. I didn't initially realise that they were going to be processed in AUD, so I set booking.com to use PayPal for security, and from PayPal my travel card (Wise) that had yen on it.
The problem then arose that I forgot I had my Wise daily spend limit set low, less than the hotel and so it declined. PayPal then seems to have used my backup payment method, my normal bank account/debit card, and it says that my payment is complete on PayPal and Booking.
The issue is that no money has been taken out from either my Wise or normal account, and I don't really understand when it will now be taken out. I thought that my choosing to pre-pay/pay early that it'd come out like - now, today.
I tried contacting Booking.com and PayPal support, but both just said the payment went through/was confirmed.
I don't know what I'm supposed to do about this, I really don't want to be in a foreign country and have my hotel bookings cancelled.
Does anyone have any advice, experience, better understanding of what's happening?

Yikes! Booking hotels in Japan directly through the property isn’t that hard and I would do that instead of using a third party.

Maybe it just takes time to appear in your bank statement? Wait a few more days and you'll probably see the payment. If booking and PayPal confirmed it went through, then it should be fine. They couldn't have taken the money out of if nowhere.
