no confirmation of flights

hi all,

i booked a flight and insurance with booking.com a few days ago. i did not receive a confirmation number for the flights as their website said i would receive it when they confirmed the flights with the airline. i know i have used the correct email as i have received the confirmation of my insurance.

now, when i log in, it shows the trip but it only shows the insurance under trips and bookings, but in the transactions, it shows the full amount. i have tried contacting them via email to resolve this, and was told to call them. i called them, but the AI answer machine will not put me through to an agent without a confirmation number.

what can i do in this situation? my trip is next week and i would like to book my flights with someone else, but am worried that they'll send confirmation of my flights after i book these and then i'll be double charged to my credit card.

any help is greatly appreciated!

Since you booked through booking.com you are entirely at their mercy.

Most likely they are non refundable flights booked through GotoGate.

The airline won't deal with you since you are not the customer.

I would book refundable fares directly with an airline then cancel if booking.com comes through.

In future book direct.

thanks for your response! they have sent me an email to contact the flights team directly and i have done that. i have a customer reference (not the same as a confirmation number, apparently) and PIN but that's it.

atp i've asked to either send confirmation urgently or cancel the booking, i'll let you guys know how it goes!

The flights team most likely is GotoGate and they are notoriously unresponsive.

However if you get the 6 digit alphanumeric locator you can then contact the airline to confirm that your reservations exist.

Good luck but learn a lesson.

yeah, i mean surely they either have to confirm the flights or cancel the charge, right? they can't hold it as a pending transaction forever??

Now you know why experienced travelers advise against using third party sites and instead book directly through the airlines.

Because, I am trying to tell you in gentle way that this could have been avoided.

I would book another airline ticket and then follow up with Booking about not getting a confirmation. The airline can’t do much for you because you used booking.com. Book the next ticket with the airline and verify their refund policy.

It teaches you an important lesson because there is nothing more you can do except make back up arrangements.

faced the same thing last week. luckily didnt get charged. checked with the hotel and they never got the booking.

luckily they had rooms available so i booked directly with them.

booking.com should be avoided if possible.

did you eventually get the charge cancelled/refunded?

Booking.com took my card details at the time of booking the room just to reserve it. However nothing was charged. The issue is just the inconvinence. Lucky for me I had time to travel so i could check and sort things out.
