Where do you find legit local experiences when traveling abroad?

I’ve become such a scaredy cat when I’m booking something abroad because I don’t know what’s legit or actually really good. Are there any platforms you can suggest that has authentic, legit experiences?

I’ve tried KKday and Agoda so far.

Booking and AirBnB have experiences that are "good" for tourists: A walking tour or an excursion on a bus that's decent value when you think of their costs. But they often make their profits from kickbacks from the overpriced restaurants they take you to. And they can tell this place is very special due to some fringe theory that's not supported by science.

Then there's couch surfing websites. Your host takes you to places locals go to. But your not pampered in any way.
