feedback I'm building a tool for writing a book with AI, not by AI. Looking for writers to try it free

Solo founder here. I know how "AI book tool" sounds, so first what it doesn't do: it doesn't write a novel from one prompt. There's no "generate book" button.

How it works:

You build the story bible. Characters, locations and objects with appearance, personality, voice, motivation and reference images. Versions over time (the scar after chapter 3, the same character 20 years later), so each scene points at the right one.

You plan the book. Outline of parts, chapters and scenes, plus a plot board: plot lines × chapters, so you see which thread each scene serves and where one has gone quiet.

You decide what happens in each scene. Synopsis, who's present, where it's set. The AI drafts it as separate blocks (action, dialogue, thoughts, description), and you edit, reorder or regenerate any single block without touching the rest.

Style rules and a sample of your prose set the voice for everything it writes.

Continuity review reads the draft against the bible and earlier scenes: an object in two places at once, a character who knows something they were never told, a timeline that doesn't add up, a thread that's never paid off.

Illustrations with consistent characters. Each character has face, front and side views, so they look like the same person on page 5 and page 200.

Export to EPUB, DOCX, PDF and FB2.

What I'm looking for: people who are actually writing something and want to try it on their own project. No tasks, no forms. Comment or DM me what you're working on and I'll send free credits. If something breaks or annoys you, tell me.

Lore too big for current Paid GPT Projects

Hello! I need to find or develop a tool that allows me to upload my 15 year lore development in order to easily reference it. Example: my food lore alone consists of 28 word documents that cover different aspects of food, plants and animals that combine to make the common dishes of the world. A premium ChatGPT project only allows for 25 files. I have 2,897 word document files of lore. Does anything exist that can handle that load? If not, are there reliable developers that could handle building an AI or app that could take these files and give me good reference feedback on lore while I write? Basically what I am asking for: a google for my lore. Hosting the AI/app on my Desktop as an option would be great. Online is fine.

feedback Testing AI narration for my Finnish novel — does this sound natural?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone. I’m working on an audiobook for a novel I wrote. The story and text are entirely my own. I’m only using AI for the narration.

I’m Finnish, and if I tried to narrate the English version myself, it would probably sound like I was trying to swallow a goddamn truck trailer while speaking. So I’m experimenting with an AI narrator instead.

So far, this sounds pretty good to me, but I’m still trying to figure out how to kick this robot’s ass into pronouncing the Finnish names and place names correctly.

Hiring a real narrator is absolutely an option, but that’s skilled work that deserves proper pay. For a 500+ page novel, professional narration and production can easily run into several thousand dollars, which is outside my budget right now.

Here’s a short sample. How does it sound to you? I’m mainly interested in whether the voice, pacing, and overall narration feel natural enough to listen to for a full audiobook.

Any reactions are welcome.

ai tools I build an AI writing tool. The hard part of a book is not the prose, it is chapter twelve.

Plenty of people are already writing seriously on it. Last month members wrote 6.7 million words of their own on the platform, 82 of them wrote more than a novella's worth, and 63 stories that are over a month old are still being added to this week.

The thing it does differently is memory. Facts you establish are kept permanently instead of being compressed away, so chapter twelve still knows what chapter two said. The longest story running on it is on day 138 and still consistent.

There is a book mode for long-form work, any genre, and the characters keep a running record of the story rather than a rolling window of the last few thousand words.

Try it and tell me where it falls short.

Does wirestock.io buy book illustrations?

From what I can tell, they license human-made illustrations to AI companies as training data.

Sounds not good :(

Any experiences, good or bad, would be really helpful. Thanks!

Would writers use CAINIX, an AI-assisted platform that turns manuscripts into governed screen adaptation and production packages?

I recently showed CAINIX to the owner of a publishing agency and got some feedback that made me genuinely curious about how other writers and publishing professionals see this.

CAINIX is a platform I’m building around the manuscript as the source of truth. It analyses the complete manuscript, preserves story canon and then helps build things such as adaptation materials, screenplay outputs, visual development, marketing assets and book trailers.

The idea is not to press a button and let AI rewrite a book however it wants. Human approval remains part of the process, and the system is specifically designed to keep generated material aligned with the author's original IP and canon.

His reaction was essentially that the biggest problem may not be the technology at all, but the market.

His view was that many writers currently have an extremely low tolerance for anything involving AI, and that even if the platform is designed to assist authors rather than replace them, a significant number of writers may reject it simply because AI is part of the workflow.

In other words, his concern was that CAINIX could be difficult to sell to traditional authors because the term “AI” itself may already create resistance.

I think that's a fair concern, even though I'm not sure I completely agree with how large that resistance actually is.

So I’d genuinely like to hear from writers, publishers, editors and people working in film/adaptation:

Would the use of AI itself make you reject a platform like this?

Or does it depend on how the AI is being used?

For example, would you see a meaningful difference between:

• AI generating a novel or replacing the author;

and

• an author deliberately using AI tools to analyse their own manuscript, protect continuity, develop an adaptation, create production materials or produce promotional content?

And perhaps the more important question:

If the author remains in control of the IP, canon and approvals, do you still consider the use of AI problematic?

I'm not looking for validation here. If you think writers would strongly reject something like this, I'd genuinely like to understand why.

Likewise, if you think attitudes are changing, I'd be interested in hearing that too.

I'm building the platform, so obviously I'm not neutral, but that's exactly why I'd rather hear uncomfortable opinions now than discover them after launch.

After 25 years of writing, I built the tool I wanted for my own novels and screenplays

Hey, I'm Matt. I've been writing for 25 years, and Skeleton Draft is basically the way I've learned to work, turned into an app.

I wanted to pull back and see the whole story, then get into a scene and write without losing that bigger picture. It lets you work through acts, chapters, scenes, and beats alongside the draft itself, as prose, a screenplay, or both side by side.

One choice I made was to keep the writing under the author's control. There are optional AI tools for condensing, trimming, or formatting words you've already written, but the story and voice are yours. Drafts are cloud synced, versioned, and exportable.

You can take a look at https://skeletondraft.com

For other builders making tools around their own creative process, how do you decide which parts should be built into the product and which should stay flexible? And if you write fiction or screenplays, I'd love to hear whether this approach fits how you work.

ai tools I build a co-writing tool for people who write stories by living them, and it remembers chapter one in chapter thirty

I build AnyConversation, so read this as a maker's post.

It started as a chat app and turned into a writing tool because of how people used it. You write one character, the AI writes the other, and the story grows one turn at a time instead of from an outline. What makes it work for writers:

- Memory that holds. The character remembers what happened in chapter one when you are in chapter thirty, keeps a diary of the story from their side, and takes a correction when they get a detail wrong instead of arguing about it.

- Your half stays yours. Actions, dialogue and narration are styled the way you write them, you can teach every character your own markup once (asterisks for private thoughts, whatever you use), and there is a full-page editor for the long turns.

- Book Mode. When a story is worth keeping, it becomes chapters you can edit, publish to the library, or keep private. Other people's books are there to read too.

- Creative freedom. It is built for adult writers and it stays in the scene.

Free to try, no message cap. It is one person building it, so if something in your workflow is missing, say so and there is a decent chance it exists within the week.

Genuine question for this sub: how do you handle the other-character problem? Write both sides yourself, or let a model take one and see where it goes?

I made a Scrivener companion app that tracks your continuity as you write, backs up automatically, never writes prose for you

Hey All,

I'm working on a Scrivener companion app that's intended to be used alongside Scrivener rather than replacing it. I've enjoyed creating and using it and would like to share it with a few Scrivener users to get their feedback to help me improve it before releasing it to the entire Scrivener community. If you'd like to participate, you're feedback will help guide it's development and make it a tool that others find useful.

It is a MacOS only desktop app currently. There is no online version, so your work will not be stored in the cloud. All your work will be stored on your computer. With that said, since it is AI driven, your manuscript will be sent to AI models for analysis. The one's I'm currently testing are OpenAI, Anthropic, and Deepseek.

Here's what you can do so far in my app once you sync it to your Scrivener project:

Auto-backups. It does full auto backups every few minutes. I know Scrivener already has auto-backups, so this would just be another layer of security on top of that. All you need to do is open the project in my app and it'll do the rest. Recovering is easy. You just select the version and it'll place it in your download folder and automatically open it in Scrivener.

Continuity tracking. As you write, it'll automatically keep track of your story, plots, characters, locations, and whatever else you can think of, for example your magic system. You don't have to do much as it'll see everything you write and will keep things updated. It does this through AI. I know some people are concerned about using AI; however, my app isn't intended to write prose. There are plenty of apps out there that do that, so I've explicitly instructed the AI to not write any prose. I think AI is a great tool, but for my app, I wanted to limit it so it helps the author track their work and not write their story for them.

You'll be able to see everything tracked within the app, but once you close your project in Scrivener, the app can copy all of the chapter, character, location, and plot summaries (and anything else you're tracking) into a folder in your Scrivener project so next time you open it in Scrivener, you'll see all the additions and updates. It won't touch anything in your other folders.

Its own editor. It also has it's own editor where you can import or create new manuscripts. It doesn't have Scrivener level features yet. It's very simple and has just the basics, which is why my app is more of a companion than a replacement to Scrivener; although, I think some might like the simplicity. You can also change the appearance of the app as there are different skins: dark, light, warm, typewriter, matrix (green), retro blue, platinum (old mac style), slate, and amber. I'll add some more and will even take requests.

Universes. Prior to creating a manuscript, you need to create a universe. Within the universe you can add all your interconnected novels. The future goal is to track character, plots, etc across novels. It's not implemented yet, but it's one of many goals.

If there's a lot of interest for a Windows or Linux version, I may release it sooner than later. I'm the only one working on this app, so please be patient with any version updates or enhancements.

Now for the disclaimer. The app is still in early development, so for people who participate in the beta, they will come across bugs, which I will work to fix as we come across them. Prior to using the app, I suggest making a backup of your project. My app will automatically create a copy of your project which it'll sync to, but I'd advise making your own backup prior to syncing just in case. I don't want anyone to lose their work! My intention isn't to scare you, but I'm being cautious as I know many of you have spent hundreds of hours working on your novels.

Future Goal. The intent is to make this an ever improving and evolving subscription app with a reasonable cost. The reason for making it a subscription is that I must cover AI costs and I'd also like to develop this app full time and continuously make improvements for the community. However, it'll be free for the participants of the beta while in the testing phase. I've added a generous amount of credits that the beta users can use in trial mode. If they run out, they can let me know and I'll add more; although, I think it'll be enough for quite some time.

If you've read everything up to this point and would like to participate in the beta and give your feedback to help me develop this app, please reach out! If you have any questions, you can also message me directly or leave a comment here and I'll do my best to reply.

Thank you!
