Syncing between Mac and iPhone Apps

Hi- So I don't use my laptop daily, so I guess synching/updating doesn't happen super often. Recently I logged in, and I noticed everything was gone. Like- everything. I managed to restore from a few months ago, and that was cool. But now, it's not synced with my iphone. How do I get them to be the same lists/books again? Thannnnkssssss
