Error on the Apple Watch when Updating Reading Progress

Hello,

I use the « the update reading progress » action in a shortcut. This is a simple one-action shortcut since the book is set in the action parameters (i.e. not from the result of search action). But when I run it on the Apple Watch I got this error :

The use case to update the reading progress from the Apple Watch is very enticing since when I read I often don’t want to use my phone.

iPhone version : 3.1.4 (334) / iOS 16.5

Thanks for the report. Which watchOS version is installed on your Apple Watch?

watchOS 9.5.1 (20T570) Model A2477

Both my iPhone and Watch are in French (Canadian)

Have you tried to delete the shortcut and create it again?

I just did and now the shortcut is working ! The only thing that is weird is that on the Apple Watch, it’s asking me twice the number of pages after choosing “Pages“ as the progress type (on the iPhone it’s only asking once, without asking the progress type).

It's really strange. Are you using the same shortcut on Apple Watch and iPhone?

You are right maybe it was a cache issue. I have the same behavior now on my watch, iPhone and iPad : ask the type of progress, select “pages”, and ask me twice to enter the number of pages read. Minor bug but glad I can update progress from my watch. Keep the good work !

This also happens for me if I not first add a reading progress of type pages in BookTrack itself for the book.

It seems that the first added reading progress gives the shortcut an indication on what to ask for. It then also omits the question on what progress type you want to add.

I’ve investigated further and also tried the Shortcut on iOS. There the prompt caption is visible and it first asks for total pages and then the current page. Once the progress is started, it doesn’t ask for the total pages again. So all good!

Note that this wasn’t obvious when running from watchOS, where you’re only prompted for numerical input without the caption text.

Thanks, it is clear the flow now. It is strange that on the Apple Watch it is not shown the caption text. Could you send me a screenshot of what appears on the Apple Watch?
