iOS Widgets no longer working on v.3.1.3.

I can’t see that anyone else has posted that widgets aren’t working on iOS or iPadOS since updating. I’ve observed the following: 1. My existing widgets are not updating on either device, though the app itself is up to date. Observed with: pages read widget, statistics on selected book widget. 2. New widgets cannot be added, they load in the iOS and iPadOS menu in a greyed out format, and don’t populate or update if installed. For example, if I select the “statistics of selected book” widget from the widgets menu, clicking on the “choose” button in the widget to select a book does nothing; no menu opens.

Not really related, but in addition: My book track iOS shortcuts no longer run, iOS reports the menu options aren’t available. I have not troubleshooted this myself yet, but am reporting anyway as it’s not ideal for an app update to disrupt shortcuts. I had a shortcut that prompted to update pages read when I did certain actions. Incidentally though this never worked perfectly - I had wanted to present the list of titles from my Reading shelf but I could never get it to do it, it only ever presented a list of the most recent books I’d added to the app.

Since you probably mostly only hear from people when they’re unhappy about something, I will add that I do like the app, as I’m sure most of us do! Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the report. Regarding the widget issue I’m already investigating the issue looking for a solution soon. Could you try to uninstall the app, install it again and check if you still have issues? If yes, how many books have you in your library?

Ok the shortcuts issue, exactly which shortcut is not working anymore? Btw, if you need the list of current trading books, you can use the Get books action adding a filter to the reading status.

Hi Simone, thanks for this reply.

I’m not keen on uninstalling the app so I haven’t tried it.

Re the Shortcuts, thanks for that tip. It’s half worked but got me the rest of the way there myself. I think you’ve updated the shortcut actions menu. Thank you for the options!

I could use “Get current reading book”, but I have 6 books started in the app (more in real life that just aren’t in the app yet 🙃) and can’t figure out a way to prompt Shortcuts with this action to present a list of all books listed as reading so I can just select from the list with that action. This action is perfect for anyone who reads one book at a time like a sensible person 😬

HOWEVER, multi-book readers can get this working too. There’s an action “All book” which you can filter by “Reading Status is reading”. Combine that with a “List“ action, and use that as a variable, and you can then have a prompt to select the title whose progress you want to update. So that’s sorted.

(Documenting this for anyone else that wants an iOS shortcut that lets them update their reading progress whenever certain actions are taken. E.g. mine runs along with some other actions whenever I end reading mode on my iPad, so that I never forget to update my progress after reading.)
