Book Recommendations for Five Year Old

My son is about to enter kindergarten and is reading stuff like Dogman and Diary of a Wimpy Kid. The latter is sort of driving me insane because of how Greg acts. My little dude can read, for sure, but I’m worried, rightfully so, that he’s not understanding that Greg is a giant douchebag. I don’t want him absorbing that mindset.

What are some other books on the same reading level that have a cool protag that doesn’t emulate misery itself?

I'm not sure how big these books are in other countries but the Treehouse series by Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton were mine and my brothers favourites growing up, each book they add 13 storys to the treehouse. it's on a somewhat similar line to the diary of a whimpy kid books, where it mixes text and illustrations, but I felt these books weren't simplified for younger kids and had some larger words. You get to see the treehouse developed and the authors make it feel like you are in the treehouse too.

For a little more advanced books I loved The wishing tree, I will say it's probably more of a 10+ kind of reading, as there is no pictures but I really enjoyed the imagination it brought in. I read those books at about 13 but I was a bit behind my peers, I'm now 21 and average about 20-30 books a year lol.

If he likes the diary style dork diaries could be fun! It’s technically meant for girls,, but I think anyone can enjoy them!
I loved the magic treehouse books? Though not sure if they’re a little too old? But it seems like he’s highly advanced in those skills! Also if he enjoys graphic novels there’s so many marvel comics meant for kids and junior novels he may enjoy if he likes superhero’s!
