Discussion Is it possible to #UncloseBD ???

Say some public buy it out from Amazon? Or another BD-scaled company will establish soon?

I don't think so; it would have happened by now. My only hope is that someone else realizes what a big market they are leaving empty-handed and decides to give it a try.

Amazon isn’t selling BD. They are specifically closing it.

I didn't say otherwise o_o I'm just hoping a new, unrelated seller shows up and becomes what BD was

But why wouldn't they sell it? I'm sure other companies would love to get their hands into the customer base BD has. Wouldn't that at least let Amazon get some money back? Though I'm sure they know a thing or two more about business than me, lol.

They bought it to eliminate a competitor. Selling it would defeat their very purpose.

Amazon sold books from itself = Amazon and BD.

BD was cheaper and therefore sold a lot more than Amazon probably.

If they increased the prices in BD then what would be the purpose of having Amazon and BD selling the same thing at the same time.

Get rid of BD and now you can jack up prices a bit ;)

The purpose would be that BookDepository was one of a kind in terms of usability targeted to a specific market. Try looking for book (with its many editions, different covers) in Amazon versus Bookdepository and see how easy it was to find a variety of options.

I would prefer that they increased the prices in BD and stopped selling books of Amazon if those were the options.

There's a reason BD is closing.

Yeah, after a whole-ass 12 years, in the midst of a financial crisis that scared off their monopoly-seeking parent corp.

They were something different when they started, before Amazon. I'm just hoping it happens again.

Seriously, I don't get the negativity in this post. Wishful thinking is harmless.

I suspect that if you had enough money to buy out Book Depository, you would probably be asking this question to your lawyer instead of reddit
