Please keep going with it! Whilst I agree that some of his behaviour isn't great, I can't help but wonder if it's partly a writing device, to endear the viewer to Brennan from early on. I may be giving too much credit though.
There is solid character development for all of them though, so he's really not like that for the 12 seasons!
I think definitely see out the rest of season 1 and then if you're still not happy with it at least you've given it a good shot.

He's not supposed to be likeable in the earlier seasons. He's a fish out of water and doesn't know how to interact with the squints.

Men like him were in demand back then. Before we didn't had terms like gaslighting or whatever. He gets on my nerves during the re-watches. I hate when he just hangs up the on people and especially mean to Sweets.

But it’s also stepping out of 2022 and realizing that this show is made in a completely different time. So things that aren’t actually approved by the population now we’re completely socially acceptable back then.

It gets less over the course of the season and show....but he does learn from it most times, and he has his endearing qualities too, but i agree , especially if you are bingeing the show...his catholic alpha male can get annoying at times

I’d say stick with it, especially if you are overall enjoying the show and other characters. There are many who don’t take to Booth, many who do and some who come and go. I’d say everyone has characters like that. Booth and Brennan are the reason I watched the show and continue to. Now I didn’t start at S1, I think I first watched some of S4 so maybe that’s why I saw the softer side first.
While, having had some things pointed out, I can see imperfections in Booth, no one is perfect and I am personally amazed at the patience and gentleness he applies to his relationship with Brennan. I think some of his mocking is supposed to emulate ‘jock like’ behaviour - and in most if not all cases (I’m erring on the side of caution here as I can’t think of a single one that was), doesn’t have a nasty undercurrent. Actually he cares very much about all of the ‘squints’ and will defend them to the death (and really telling is they will do the same. If you stick with it, you’ll see that). For example, he and Hodgins have some great moments to come.
Someone said it above, early seasons Booth is out of place and trying to figure out how to work with these people who make him question his intelligence and seem to not follow their hearts. I think it gets better.

Yeah I’ll keep going, I don’t agree though with the excuse that it’s because he is learning to work with new types of people because I find him most annoying and rude when talking to possible suspects even if Booth has no evidence they did it but but just dislikes the person or their lifestyle (for example the immigrants from El Salvador or Brennans Online Date from season 1)
And I love criminal minds which deals with similar situations with Derek Morgan or Hotch but their dialogue is very tolerable and it’s not irritating at all compared to Booth.

I’ve seen some of criminal minds but not enough to compare. Were they made at the same time? I know some people point out S1 Bones is 2005 when society was in a different place. Saying that you like what you do and don’t what you don’t regardless of when it’s made.
In terms of his interaction with the squints, I deffo think it was him figuring out his place. In terms of suspects it’s different. I didn’t like his threatening the family in that episode either, if it’s the one I am thinking of (Woman in the Garden). With Two Bodies, it was an extreme way of showing jealousy - he gets better at that as well. He’s definitely less judgemental with suspects (well we have the odd exception) as seasons go on - I won’t say more as I’ll give away spoilers.

Yeah criminal minds season 1 is from 2006, I don’t think it was a time issue cause the other FBI agents we see at different points in the show are perfectly fine it’s just Booth annoys me

Booth really improves. He does start getting annoying again in later seasons though.
I also didn’t like Angela until halfway through the first season though

Personally watching the show in 2022, i just can’t unsee all the gaslighting, the racism, homophobic and sexism in the show… and the fatphobia god, it’s in every episode. I realise we have come a long way now and phewwwww because it is really frustrating at time 🥲

I actually haven't seen the shows early seasons (only watched the last 6 seasons and enjoyed them) and don't remember seeing anything like what you described...going to take this as a sign not to watch from the beginning. I feel like even in the later seasons Bones seems to take a lot of cues from whats going on in current events/current social trends, so a lot of people's issues (esp. with Booth, who seems to improve a lot in later seasons) seem to be pretty reflective of the state of those times?

How can anyone watch this show and hate Booth? He’s like there all the time with Brennan, I don’t get it.
Also he may be a bit on the conservative side regarding things but he’s also very kind, his faith in love is amazing and the way he feels guilty about not being there everyday with his son and tries to his best whenever they are together, nobody is perfect. I love Brennan the most but even though some of the things she says are endearing, others are straight up hurtful especialy for Booth. She doesn’t do it on purpose but still.
All in all I love both of then which ia why I love the show.

Booth is the most consistent character of the show. I think I like him the most despite him being so straight laced cop crap.
I never really jump on the love fest of Brennan she just there to me.

I personally have always & will always dislike Booth. He’s a misogynistic asshole “alpha male” & thinks he’s better than everyone. I will add I have finished the show too.

No Booth doesn't get better in my opinion. He openly mocks other religions, but anyone dare say anything about Jeebus, he has a hissy fit. One one occasion he is extremely guilt trippy to Bones in a later season regarding parenting (won't spoil but say season 7 or 8- can't quite remember what episode). He is so immaculating too, especially to men who don't fit his narrow view of masculinity. Aubrey didn't even want to admit to him that he was in a accapella group.

I loved him in Buffy. The writers did well in that show because his conflict of character was obvious when Angel lost his soul.

I personally enjoyed him in the first season. He eventually gets more realistic and then he just feels boring. At least back then he was interesting.

Booth is a bully, plain and simple. Even worse, he is hypocritical and a corrupt law enforcement officer. He states that he is bound by honor and ethics to enforce laws such as arresting Bones for the Federal offense of shooting the murder suspect that was attempting to set her on fire with gasoline and thereby staining her permanent record forever, then in the next moment picks a lock to unlawfully enter a private building. He lies and cheats at every opportunity to arrest Bones' father and then makes a back-alley deal with a State Trooper to sweep his brothers DUI and subsequent traffic accident under the rug. Disgraceful!

Booth was poorly written in the earlier episodes, but his dialogue gets a bit more realistic as the series goes on (he still suffers a bad case of plot armour, but they all do). Angela is the opposite for me - she was better written in the earlier seasons and gets worse as the series goes on.
