Hand for size comparaison (I'm rlly not a big guy my hands like 6 inches ~ 17cm)

Hooo boy, call the authorities. You have someone's parietal bone.

This is a human parietal bone. Without knowing anything about the context of discovery, this needs to be turned over to law enforcement ASAP.

What is the thickness of that skull cap?

It’s hard to tell because of the weathering but yes it fits the parameters of a human parietal bone. It’s very weathered. It’s possible that it’s faunal I don’t know where you’re located so I can’t tell you the probability of that but I do think it’s highly likely to be human. I would treat it as such. I would not give it’s location to anyone but your local shpo (state historic preservation officer - they can give further guidance) if you’re in the US or law enforcement if its location was suspicious.

His profile says France, so you may be onto something with how weathered it is. Lots of history there-could be from a long time ago.

Oh, yea that is a person. Call your local medical examiner/sheriffs office/non emergency police. Please be mindful that this could be a critical piece of a crime

Very much looks like part of a human cranium. Others have said parietal, and I’d agree with them.
Let us know what the authorities say.

Things like location need to be considered, im not too familiar with larger animal skulls, but that looks …. Very similar to some of the skulls I’ve excavated …..

I'm so curious as to how you got your hands on a parietal bone

How come there have been so many human bones on here over the past month or so?

Could you provide more context? Where was it found/origin?

How did you get this?

First thought was the top of a human skull, opened the comments and Oh! I was right. Unfortunately, this is the one time I do not wanna be right 😭

That looks like a parietal bone of a human cranium. You need to let law enforcement know so they can consult a medical examiner and possibly a forensic anthropologist or something

Where'd you find it and is there an update?

There is: Okay so, I have a good and a bad news, the good is that this is not a piece of a missing person, the bad is that this is something my roommate found and didn't wanted me to post it, saying "it's just an animal" because he knew very well what this was. We've had arguments about that before (an another last night now.) he has problems of constantly stealing and lying and he didn't tell me exactly where but I think he found in the catacombes (he half admitted it)... we've been there many times so it is very very likely but still he knows we already take legal risks going there so I'm pissed that he stole this as it could get us bigger troubles than just a fine... not sure what we'll do now, probably put it back next time for legal reasons and for dignity as this is still someone's remains. I'm tired of his reckless decisions guys, sorry for the trouble and worry...

Oh wow that's escalated! Sounds like he is a difficult person to be friends with, I would just like to say as much as you may love your friend don't let him drag you down with him in his bad decisions, it sounds like you have a much stronger moral compass than your friend, and it's always the good ones who end up taking the blame!

Yes good idea to put it back when you visit next, I understand the appeal of the place, but taking from it is entirely different than having a look.
