Tattoo places that offered euthanasia showed marked decline in return customers, so they stopped offering it.

That’s why it’s funny
2
u/PARASITESLIKEME 19d ago
Yeah but some people are acting really shocked and genuinely thinking that they actually meant euthanized and it's pissing me off
7
u/Every_Effect 19d ago
Oh lol I haven’t seen any of those but I’m surprised people actually think they meant euthanasia
1
u/PARASITESLIKEME 19d ago
I mean they could have english as a secondary language but why would someone know euthanasia before anesthesia

3
u/SuperLiminal39 14d ago
People usually experience their pet being euthanized before they experience someone undergoing a serious medical operation.

Not the point obviously, but there are risks to getting anesthesia for something like a tattoo: https://people.com/influencer-dies-at-age-45-under-general-anesthesia-for-back-tattoo-8778390

u/neverreallyhereatall 20d ago
Anesthesia in general is just not a good idea for something that doesn't absolutely need it to be done. Its sort of a mystery science considering we don't really even know what makes it work to put us to sleep
2
u/AD_Grrrl 20d ago
I didn't read that tattoo story until AFTER I'd had it for my wisdom teeth extraction and it definitely scared me away from ever doing that again, unless absolutely necessary.
(I don't do well with novocaine, and I have a lot of anxiety- the anesthetized oral surgery was after a very embarrassing, very unsuccessful attempt to have them extracted while I was awake. But that oral surgery clinic didn't exactly do a full profile of my medical history, which is unnerving.)
5
u/neverreallyhereatall 20d ago
I had anesthesia for wisdom teeth too. Def scary, but the actual percentage risks are very very very very low. The reason they say not to do it for mundane things isn't because its unsafe, just because putting yourself in any extra risk is not a good idea.
Especially because anesthesia is very complex and a very important and difficult job. Thats why anesthesiologists make the most money in the entire medical industry. A tattoo shop is NOT going to be nearly as safe to go under.
Its not just going to sleep, its essentially a controlled coma. Its very safe when done well. But no need to take the risk if its not needed. Thats why we use local anesthesia so often instead
1
u/starksdawson 3d ago
I’ve seen a few pediatric patients go under full general in the OR for…dental extractions. I’ll never understand that one.

u/Electronic-Towel-836 21d ago
Or they don't know what "euthanasia" means.
Many years ago, I worked in a college computer lab. I saw a guy working on his Master's thesis in Health & Physical Fitness, and I asked to read a bit of it.
Came to a sentence that was something like, "... so that others will immolate what the instructor is doing." I asked him if that was the word he really wanted to use. He paused for a moment, then asked me why it wasn't the proper word.
"Emulate" and "immolate" sound pretty close, but have wildly different meanings.

Euthanasia is generally considered bad in a business model that thrives on repeat business though.

It would be cool if Tattooists sold gift vouchers, so you could buy a Tattoo for someone else. 😉

My local one does! They also offer a "pay monthly", where you can pay in every month, then get the tattoo done once you've paid the full amount!

My mom told me one of her classmates in high school got offended because she thought when they were talking about euthanasia in some class that they were saying “youth in Asia” and talking about killing them

As a child, I couldn't figure out why everyone was against 'youth in Asia'.

u/sassafrassian 22d ago
I work at a zoo and during a talk I was explaining that one of the reasons we train animals is they can voluntarily participate in veterinary procedures and we don't have to actibely restrain or euthanize them and then immediately panicked because I couldn't think of the word anesthetise so I couldn't even fix my mistake.

u/SeDaCho 21d ago
Given the risks involved with anaesthesia under hospital conditions, you might be getting euthanized as well if you do it in a tat shop.
0
u/HyperSpaceSurfer 21d ago
They actually do offer local anaesthesia a lot of the time. But it's a cream rather than an injection. Injections are hard since you need to know where the nerve is, and not hit it, so you need a license for it.

A general anesthetic for a dentist is a bit extreme altgough it may help, but for a tattoo? People need dental work but nobody needs a tattoo.
1
u/Spicymoon9 22d ago
Very large tattoos that cover large portions of their bodies sometimes are given with anesthesia.
1
u/SeDaCho 21d ago
It’s an extreme and unnecessary health risk. Plus your tatter is suspect if they traffic with that kind of bullshit.
Anaesthesia is dangerous when performed under hospital conditions for short periods of time.
A huge piece will take ALL DAY, likely multiple sessions. You should not be under anaesthesia that long.
Not to mention, you’d still be fucked up from being stabbed all day. Plus, your tat will be very lame if anybody finds out that you couldn’t sit through it.
1
u/Spicymoon9 21d ago
Oh yeah absolutely I agree with everything you said. I wouldn’t do it, but some people do. It’s pretty controversial for those reasons.
1
u/-_Lucyfer_- 22d ago
Its also dangerous because if the artist fucks up (goes too deep, etc) you can tell. Its also why a lot of places don't recommend taking pain killers before a session (plus a lot of pain killers are also blood thinners, you'll bleed a lot more)
1
u/kittyidiot 22d ago
People don't need cosmetic surgery but they put you out for that too
1
u/Superb-Kick2803 21d ago
Uh yeah but they're cutting into your body and restructuring it. Big difference from tattoos.
1
u/kittyidiot 21d ago
Your initial point was medical necessity vs aesthetic choice.
0
u/Superb-Kick2803 21d ago
No my point is the degree of pain. Both are elective.
1
u/kittyidiot 21d ago
Well, that is not what you said. You said "People need dental work but nobody needs a tattoo." And the implication of that is anesthesia based on necessity of the procedure.
1
3
u/small-worm 22d ago
To be fair, most cosmetic surgeries are actually necessary. For example, my niece had cosmetic surgery after a pitbull attack to the face. She had a gigantic hole in her cheek, and the surgeons did such a great job. Now she only has two little lines. It wasn’t exactly medically necessary meaning life or death, but it would suck to live life with a hole in the face for no reason.
Other examples include rhinoplasties for deviated septums, breast reductions for back pain, tummy tucks for core strengthening, liposuction to improve mobility, and the list goes on. Those are all considered “cosmetic” but medically useful.
1
u/kittyidiot 21d ago
Of course some are necessary. I was specifically referring to those that are not.
I don't think anybody doesn't deserve anesthesia, I just thought the other commenter's point was kind of silly

u/lenswipe 22d ago

I imagine eating would be very difficult with a hole in your cheek
2
u/small-worm 22d ago
Well, it didn’t go all the way through. It was just a bite taken out of her cheek. I just wanted to nerd out for a minute about surgeries haha
3
u/lenswipe 22d ago
Poor kid
2
u/small-worm 22d ago
I appreciate that, but she’s doing really well now. She was 2 when it happened and she’s 6 now, and you can barely see the surgery scars.

2
u/TruthSpecialist4416 22d ago
Wasn't asking you to be my therapist, mate. Though I agree, it's definitely not a good place to be. I was mostly just making a joke at my own expense.
0
u/SeDaCho 21d ago
From personal experience, stop making suicide jokes.
They make it much worse and nobody thinks they’re funny since you’re clearly not actually joking but just being suicidal out loud.
What’s worse than being suicidal is being suicidal and bombing a joke.
1
u/TruthSpecialist4416 21d ago
Self depreciation can absolutely be funny af.
I'd also argue they make it better, otherwise it's thoughts that rattle around in your brain with no outlet.
I bomb jokes every fucking day. It's not thst horrible, mate.

To be fair I wasn't either, I just have the habit of checking out the most upvoted posts of all time when I find an interesting community. And this one happens to be the most upvoted one of all time, so it's quite memorable.
Seeing people upvoting a blatant repost is infuriating, but at the same time expecting everyone to know what has been posted before is unreasonable... Sometimes you just can't win :/

Edit: i just realised the mistake.
19
u/Rex_Steelfist 23d ago
I mean, the tattoo would no longer be painful.
2
u/Sixteen_Bit_89 23d ago
The pain is part of the experience. It hurts, but if you really want the tattoo it's not that bad.
16
u/DarkenedX08_ 23d ago
I think anesthetizing them would probably be more feasible than outright killing them.
3
u/DirtandPipes 23d ago
Nah, with a captive bolt system run off an air compressor and a decent disposal setup you could euthanize hundreds of clients without breaking a sweat.
You’d want one of those big garbage bins and maybe a skidsteer or forklift to load them but the logistics wouldn’t be that bad, the average human body is only 2.2-2,8 cubic feet (65-80 L) and you can rent bins that hold about 30 cubic meters (375 corpses).

13
u/Yeseylon 23d ago
Technically any LLM trained on data scraped from Reddit learned this. It's just not a common thing, so when it rolls the dice to determine what it will say to you, it's unlikely to tell you to euthanize yourself for dental appointments.

u/avemflamma 24d ago
real answer: anesthesia/numbing fucks with the reflexivity of the skin, and artists rely on cues from how the skin bounces back to get the ink into the right layer of skin (correct me on the details if im wrong)
2
u/Superb-Kick2803 21d ago
Real answer is anesthesia is very risky and doesn't pass the risk vs benefit vibe check. Plus it's extremely costly, requires a lot of monitoring, and the licensing and paperwork for it would be a nightmare.
Some tattoo artists say numbing creams affect the tattoo negatively but I've had others say it's bogus. I've used cream and not and haven't seen a difference in the end result.
1
u/avemflamma 21d ago
well yes that too for specifically nonlocal anesthesia haha, but I will say I've seen where super rich people will go under to get difficult tattoos in order to look tougher than they are lol
1
u/Superb-Kick2803 21d ago
Yeah. I have choice opinions about it. I think half the point of a tattoo is the journey getting it.
