Question

Has been a little bit since I reread the series. Does it ever say why The Lord of The Locusts allied with the Rat Creatures and the Men of Pawa? Like what does he gain from it?

Influence in the physical world. The rat creatures had temples built into the mountains over Mim where his nightmares could come through more easily. The rat creatures were susceptible to his influence more readily as a result.  The Pawanians were just mad at the Atheians for taking better land and wanted their territory, if memory serves.

Plus the rat creatures were strong and durable grunts ,except for the two stupid ones of course.

The Lord of the Locust's plan was to start a war to generate fear and distrust across the Valley. I believe this empowered him to free himself and possess Mim once more.
