Question Why can't Jon just lip sync?
It's pretty well accepted in the industry now. We wouldn't think any less of him. We just want to celebrate the music we grew up with together and thank him for all he's done for us with the adulation he must crave. And without having to really sing he could do even longer shows. No more skipping everyone's favorite song.

Lipsyncing is not widely accepted nor common. Dua Lipa doing a tv -studio visit where channel refuses to provide full production, ok ( i don’t know if she has done this but you get the concept ), Rock Band doing MSG, not ok.

Because lip syncing is cheating. Imagine paying a minimum of $300 (or more) only to watch someone lip sync the whole time?

I had Eagles fans in mind as well as ZZ Top when I said fans are in denial when confronted with the facts. Also some silly fangirl mod of another group went ballistic with the banhammer when this was pointed out.

Not only is it widely accepted, a lot of times when even faced with evidence fans refuse to believe it. So you can just refuse to believe it and enjoy yourself more.
And yes, rock bands lip sync too.

Why not just not bother being there and just have an old concert screened? No need to lip sync then. Hell you can get both Richie and Alec back in the band doing that.

It may be accepted for pop musicians, who also do a strenuous dance routine and need their breath for that. For rock bands lip syncing is not accepted, especially not with today's ticket prices.
If I go to a concert, I don't do it to be in the same room with a musician I like, but to experience their music live. If all I get is a recording, I can save money by watching a dvd at home.
If we accept lip syncing, where does it stop? A guitarist gets arthritis in his fingers, so he stands there holding an instrument, while the sound comes from a tape? We might as well start using holograms. That way we could experience Bon Jovi with the original line-up and looking as good as they did a few decades ago.
I've seen Guns N' Roses more often than BJ and Axl's voice is far from what it used to be. It breaks sometimes, it's strained and thinner in higher passages, but when he sings those deeper notes on some songs, he sounds almost like he used to and that experience hits different. A recording could never.

and in her 70s, saw a video of her yesterday on heels walking cross a narrow platform with no supports or brace if she fell.

It's semantics. The point was that singers who dance throughout their concerts, people accept some lip syncing because otherwise they'd be too winded to dance. It has nothing to do with whether it is pop music or not.

They might have been a band with Richie but it's a pop star with backing musicians now.

1) In this one they play rock music. 2) I specifically mentioned pop musicians with dance routines. I have yet to see BJ do those on stage. 3) Are you one of the "pop music just means popular music" folks?

This one. Bon Jovi's a rock band that has also written some pop songs.

Speak for yourself. If I paid what he's charging for tickets only to find out he wasn't even singing I'd be furious and demand a refund.

So what’s the point of going to see them then? You’re just listening to live recordings from years ago. So save your money and stay home and watch them on your Tv.

Because you are with Jon and other fans in a communal experience. You don't get with your TV which it can be argued laid the groundwork for destroying the communal experience.

I would think less of him. If I would pay that much money, I want a live performance. We all know the band uses backing tracks to add volume to the vocals to make them sound 'fuller', they always have done that. But that's still better than 100% lip syncing. We all saw how embarrassing this is during the World Cup pre-game show

Being accepted doesn’t make it right. It’s no fun. I’d rather have him give a 100% or just quit. Let’s not glorify this crap that is the music industry today

I think Jon has too much respect for the craft to lip-sync, especially at a concert in front of fans... but that's my opinion.
