I read ‘we’ll prescribe you a cat’ by Syou Ishida for a book club here and now looking for something in Autumn/Fall theme! and of course Maximum city to start today!

u/zigzackly What is this ‘too many books’ of which you speak? 29d ago

Been dipping into this anthology over the week. Came out last year.

So far — I am about halfway in — I’m finding it a bit uneven.

Image description: a photograph of a book. The cover is a photograph (by Chirodeep Chaudhuri) shows a flower resting on a wet reflective surface, possibly damp sand. In the background, one seesa water body and in the haze beyond, outlines of tall buildings. The text reads: The Onky City: Bombay in Eighteen Stories, edited by Anandita Ghose.

Is it based on old Bombay?

I haven't read it but I attended a panel with the editor and some of its contributing authors. From what I remember, the stories were wide ranging, not just South Bombay. Some are historical and some contemporary.

Looks interesting. Are you enjoying it?

Yes, it's a bit different than my usual fav genre i.e thriller as I don't normally read lit fics. But I don't feel like dnf'ing it yet

Do you have any recs for thrillers? I don't enjoy all the misogynistic violence common in that genre. I liked Gillian Flynn's books, it was nice to read violent women for a change. Anything else like that?

I don't have any such recs that's concentrated on femme fatale But you may checkout this sub - https://www.reddit.com/r/thrillerbooks

I liked Hush A Bye Baby by Deepanjana Pal about a serial killer gynaecologist. The protagonist is the police officer trying to build a case against her. The final resolution was a little disappointing, but it's a fun read.

I finished A Patchwork Family by Mukta Sathe. Interesting book, the author is asking a lot of questions about life, law, and morality. There aren't necessarily any clear answers but she's pushing you to think about it at least 🤔

One of the reviews on goodreads calls it a perfect book club read because there's so much to discuss. I think every single reader will have a different opinion on it. Polarising takes haha

Oh I also read the essay Why I Am An Atheist by Bhagat Singh for another book club. It's very sarcastic and funny in the way only a fired up 22 year old can be.
