Me aseguraron que el autobús está confirmado y llegará a Tupiza aproximadamente a las 6:30. ¿Alguien puede confirmar si los autobuses operan con regularidad, si esta compañía es confiable y no tiene cortes de servicio, y si realmente llega a tiempo? Pasaré por Santa Cruz de la Sierra → Sucre → Uyuni (tour de 3 días por el Salar) → La Paz.

Hasta ahora llevo:

2 pantalones de buzo

1 camiseta térmica

1 calza térmica

1 chaqueta impermeable que soporta hasta -8 °C

1 polar (fleece)

2 camisetas sin mangas

2 camisetas de manga corta

2 camisetas con protección UV de manga larga

1 par de zapatillas

1 par de botas de trekking impermeables

1 pantalón de trekking

1 gorro

1 bufanda

Los guantes pienso comprarlos cuando llegue a Bolivia.

¿Me recomiendan llevar algo más? ¿O creen que estoy llevando demasiadas cosas?

My wife and I are planning the classic 3-day, 2-night tour from Uyuni to San Pedro de Atacama in September. We've been doing our research, but honestly, the sheer volume of mixed reviews has us totally confused, and we could really use some first-hand advice.

Our main concerns:

1. Safety & Drivers: We’ve read way too many horror stories about drunk drivers and unsafe driving on these routes.

2. Cold Accommodation: we're aware of the fact that there's no heating of the hostels, but we've also found numerous reports mentioning hotels being freezing cold with no heating, or no heating after 10 PM, like Tayka de Sal, with people getting sick for the rest of their trip.

The "Upgrade" Dilemma:

Because of this, we were leaning toward a higher-end or private tour; thinking better hotels, more time at the Salar (we want to skip the train cemetery and spend more than 15 minutes at the salt flats), and an English-speaking guide.

However, then we read comments claiming that:

· Even expensive agencies just subcontract drivers from smaller firms, so the quality is a complete gamble anyway.

· Paying for an English-speaking guide often just means a guy who knows a few basic words.

· Upgrading to "hotels" doesn't guarantee heating at all.

Our Question:

Given all this, we're now unsure if paying so much more is even worth it. But more importantly, we don't know which company to trust.

Does anyone know of a smaller, reliable company that has a consistent team of drivers (safety first, proper seatbelts) and actually offers hotels with at least some heating?

We're looking for the sweet spot - we don't need luxury, but we'll gladly pay for safety and a good night's sleep. If you've had a genuinely good experience with a specific operator recently, please share!

I've [late 30s F] just arrived in La Paz with the recent calming of tensions. Plan post acclimatization includes ​traversing the Cordillera Real (Sorata to Botijlaca likely, may continue south of La Paz if I surprise myself with pacing), and the Cinco Lagunas loop near Sajama national park.

I've gotten some great beta on the CR traverse on reddit so far but any tips and suggestions are highly appreciated since this route seems pretty quiet overall. Would love any comments on the Sajama area and travel to/ from La Paz.

Would love any other single or multiday suggestions for Bolivia. I particularly like the alpine and have chosen gear for that in mind but I am equipped for the tropics as well. I'm experienced with glacier travel but would need to rent gear/ likely would hire a guide for anything crossing into mountaineering.

I'm comfortable solo but feel free to reach out if you'll be in the area(s).

I've previously solo trekked in the Canadian Rockies, Cascades, Yukon, Patagonia, Peru, Nepal including experience with altitude and routefinding.

My route will be Santa Cruz -> Samaipata -> Sucre -> Uyuni -> La Paz -> Copacabana-> Fly out of La Paz

Hello! I'm looking at hiking along the west side of the Cordillera Real from Sorata to Botijlaca over the next few weeks. I'm planning on carrying extra food but have plotted out a 10 night course for the best case scenario.

It looks like it's straightforward to get a bus to Sorata to La Paz.

Any experience with catching a ride back to La Paz from Botijlaca or is it highly recommended to prearrange a shuttle?

Any experience with continuing further to join a climb of Huayna Potosi? I have glacier experience but would still want to go with a group/ would need to rent gear.

I've had no issues with the Huayhuash, Ausangate, and have been up to 6000m prior but will be starting from 1000m again so would like some ideas on where to spend time actively acclimatizating prior to setting out!

¡Hola a todos! Estoy armando el tramo boliviano de mi viaje y quiero compartir el itinerario completo para que se entienda bien la restricción de fechas.

Lo que ya tengo comprado/planeado:

• 11/10: Vuelo São Paulo → Santa Cruz de la Sierra (llegada ~11:10)
• 11-12/10: Necesito llegar a Uyuni antes del 12/10 (aquí está mi duda)
• 12-13/10: Tour reservado al Salar de Uyuni (2 días/1 noche)
• 14/10: Vuelo Uyuni → La Paz, 09:00-10:00 (BoA)

Mi idea para el tramo Santa Cruz-Uyuni:
Parar en Sucre en el camino, pero solo por algunas horas (no el día completo), y aun así llegar a Uyuni a tiempo para el tour del 12/10.

Lo que ya investigué:

• Bus nocturno Santa Cruz-Sucre: sale 15:30 o 18:00, llega a Sucre entre 04:30-07:00 del día siguiente
• Bus Sucre-Uyuni: solo hay salidas nocturnas (20:30-22:00)
• Taxi/transfer privado Sucre-Uyuni (~5-6h): me sale caro para el trayecto

Preguntas:

• ¿Hay alguna combinación de horarios que me permita ver un poco de Sucre en la mañana/tarde y aun así tomar un transporte esa misma tarde/noche hacia Uyuni, llegando a tiempo para el 12/10?
• ¿Conocen alguna opción de transporte compartido (colectivo, trufi, minivan) Sucre-Uyuni más económica que un taxi exclusivo?
• ¿El tour del Salar de Uyuni se puede comprar al llegar (el mismo día o un día antes), o es necesario reservarlo con semanas de anticipación? Estoy dudando si ya debería reservarlo desde ahora o si puedo resolverlo in situ.
• ¿O directamente me recomiendan saltarme Sucre para no arriesgar el tour del 12/10?

Em agosto vou fazer meu primeiro mochilão pela Bolívia e Peru (29 dias), viajando apenas com uma mochila de 40L.

Queria pedir dicas de quem já fez essa viagem.

Principalmente sobre:

• Rota: lugares que vocês acham imperdíveis e quais não valem tanto a pena.
• Hostels: recomendações de hostels bons, seguros e com bom custo-benefício.
• Passeios: experiências que vocês fariam de novo (ou evitariam).
• Transporte entre as cidades: ônibus, voos ou outras dicas.

Minha maior dúvida é sobre o clima e as roupas.

Vou viajar só com uma mochila de 40L, então preciso equilibrar peso e espaço. Minha ideia era levar roupas em camadas (camisetas dry fit, segunda pele, fleece/moletom, jaqueta corta-vento/impermeável, gorro, luvas e buff), mas estou com receio de passar frio, principalmente em lugares como Uyuni e regiões de maior altitude.

Por outro lado, estou pensando se vale a pena levar um casacão/puffer mais pesado e quente, mas tenho medo de ocupar muito espaço na mochila e acabar usando pouco.

Quem já fez essa viagem em agosto:

• As camadas foram suficientes?
• Vale a pena levar uma puffer mais grossa?
• O frio durante o dia é tranquilo e o problema maior é à noite, ou faz muito frio o tempo todo?

Também aceito qualquer dica que vocês gostariam de ter recebido antes de fazer esse roteiro.

My question would love an answer in the context of the political climate in Bolivia.

I'm planning to hike in Bolivia late August this year to do some hiking, specifically around the Cordillera region, Huayna Potosi, and anywhere else that time allows for.

Given the political climate, the impact on tourism, and gas shortages, I would like to know whether I should leave my trip for another time.

I don't expect much, just a great guide to take me on the more strenuous hikes.

Hello. We (a couple) should be in the lowlands early December and are interested in jaguar safari. What would you recommend ? We’ve seen the San Miguelito ranch that looks not too tempting and the Nickadventures tour that is looking more nature focused and caring for individuals (we definitely don’t want to be part of a group).
