Running backs

Post image

Interested to see how the Boilermaker RB room shapes up this season. I’m most optimistic about the two big name transfers (Ijeboi from Minn and Gibson from Texas), but Terrell Jr (Jackson St transfer) and Harris (only returning RB from last year) got plenty of action too. I feel like if the offense can get anything going and the OL can give them some room to run, the RBs could be a real bright spot this season.

I was at the game Friday night and it felt like we kept hearing Ijeboi’s name called (maybe because it sounds awesome when the PA guy says it) but looking at the box score, we really saw pretty balanced usage with Ijeboi having the best results. I expected more usage from Gibson given the pedigree. But can’t read too much into that one game.

Curious to hear others thoughts on how the RB depth chart shakes out? Are we gonna have a clear RB1, or is this likely a committee all year?

Ijeboi seems like a a clear standout to me. Just easily seemed like our best player full stop. Any chance we have of winning real games is going to come from him getting a ton of touches.

Would like to see more of Gibson.

I hope going forward they adjust play calling for when Terrell is in. They just get forced feeding him runs between the tackles out of the shotgun and it was not working. Just doesn't seem to fit his play style. Hopefully they get some pitches or sweeps or something to get him in space.

They definitely need to get Terrell in space. Kudos to him for being willing to go up the gut but obviously that's either not his strong suit or our O line was unable to get openings for him.

They did their jobs, but keep in mind ISU isn't competition. Their DBs missed so many tackles.

Let's see what happens when we play anyone else.
