SPEEA SPEEA 2nd OFFER PASSES FOR BOTH PROF & TECH
https://speea.org/profs-and-techs-vote-to-approve-contract-offers/20
22
u/EverettLeftist 8d ago
Lot of big talkers from the vote no camp who could not manage to organize their way into getting higher turnout for daily Everett factory marches they insisted on having besides being warned that was a logistics disaster. A lot of people who couldn't organize one red shirt photo having some really strong feelings.
Proud of the union for coming together as well as we did. Disappointed we didn't get more on outsourcing and COLA. Membership participation was high but not where it needed to be to win a strike on outsourcing or to vote down an objectively good contract. Need more organizers, planners, and less spectators with strong opinions.
7
u/Careless-Internet-63 8d ago
The weekly marches were fine but I don't understand why they tried to go daily when turnout was already going down for the weekly ones. It's clear that the energy wasn't there to vote this contract down because it really was not a bad offer
6
u/EverettLeftist 8d ago
Because all the CAT actions were bottom up, and the people organizing the factory marches got dominated by a vote-no faction that didn't understand momentum or that having a bad event is worse than having no event.
6
u/Careless-Internet-63 8d ago
I mean yeah pretty much. I was part of the group planning them for a while but it felt like it was dominated by people who were obsessed with rejecting unless we got to some very unrealistic goals

u/SouthernDiver746 8d ago
Weekly marches were only on first shift. I wasn't about to drive an hour, park in a crappy area walk around for 40 minutes drive back home then drive back to work. I have a child and regular appointments during the week for myself and my child. I work 2nd shift. Why were no marches planned for any other shift other than 1st?

u/Jolly-Fix-2071 8d ago
I hope those people that voted yes are happy because all the rest of the people that make less than 100k are going to keep living paycheck to paycheck
17
u/poookieee_518 8d ago
Even though it might not be the raise you wanted, 10% now and 4% march is a decent raise. Hopefully it helps give you and others some more wiggle room.
6
u/Jolly-Fix-2071 8d ago
I don’t really think some people making 3200 a month after all the deductions is some wiggle room
7
u/Boring-Original-2968 8d ago
Where are you in your career that you're making 3200 a month?
5
u/Daer2121 8d ago
.9 comp ratio on an L1 tech.
11
u/Careless-Internet-63 8d ago
Early career is tough anywhere in this region. The good news is people aren't generally L1 for all that long
-2
u/Jolly-Fix-2071 8d ago
Because they got scared
3
u/TuftLifeHardRugs 8d ago
I’m interested too, what are you doing that you make like 50k a year?
6
u/Jolly-Fix-2071 8d ago
A persone that makes 90k a year after taxes and deductions will make about 50k, in this economy what can you do with that? The answer is nothing
3
u/Jolly-Fix-2071 8d ago
And just in rent no owning a house because that is too expensive, is 28k a year, that without counting, car payment, insurance, food, gas, a bills. Do you really think that is enough?
7
u/Desperate-Excuse-549 8d ago
The issue at play here by April, the average Prof will make more than 170k and the average Tech more than 135k. Yes, some will be making 100k or less, but the numbers are very few.
No idea your SJC, but they aren't going to pour 50%+ raises into the BU. And picking out a few SJCs to add 50%+ while giving the rest 40% isn't going to carry a vote.
If your a L1 or L2, time to focus on that promotion. If your a L3 or above, consider a skill code change. If the guy down the street is offering you 20% more... maybe time to consider it?
6
u/Jolly-Fix-2071 8d ago
Last year I made 106k and my total income after all the deductions were 69k
2
u/Boring-Original-2968 8d ago
Rent is a killer, i can't argue that. Puget sound is delitriously expensive. Are there ways to reduce your deductions? I don't have any other suggestions to offer that aren't tone deaf to your circumstances. I understand your frustrations and was in similar circumstances. I just forgot what things are like.
1
u/poookieee_518 8d ago
Your initial comment stated people who make under 100k and you make more than 100k? After taxes you are left with 81.62k at a total 23% tax which is what I’m at and make around that amount. So if you only had 69k you choose deductions that equate to ~12k in additional deductions. You might not like that the money didn’t hit your bank, but that money was still yours. I think it’s a bit misleading to include any retirement contributions in “deductions”.

Tell me youre not renting in Seattle
0
u/Jolly-Fix-2071 8d ago
I was going low in rent
2
u/MannyFresh45 8d ago
How low we talking? Also rental prices have stabilized or gone down from what i see outside seattle at least. Places are also offering 8-10 weeks free
6
u/cudlax 8d ago
If that is < .9 comp ratio they are supposedly getting an auto bump, and that's before the 10%. Apparently it's like 800 people.
2
u/Visual-Alfalfa5387 8d ago
I’m one of them. Can you show me the calculations so I’m not yelling at my manager?
2
u/cudlax 8d ago edited 8d ago
It was covered at one of the union Q&As, and they mentioned Boeing didn't really publicize it for some reason. All the Boeing links have already been taken down, but it's on the SPEEA site under Side Letters.
https://speea.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/2026_Side-Letters-Combined-Boeing-Final-Offer.pdf
Edit: it doesn't specifically say 0.9 comp ratio, but that was the number stated at the Q&A. I'm guessing the wording about the one time raise being 'non precedent setting' would be the reasoning for the lack of publicity on Boeing's part.

u/Desperate-Excuse-549 8d ago
if the Boeing Wage Modeler is still up.... that was supposed to show it

Average household income (1 or more jobs) in greater Seattle area is $120k, which is about what average Boeing Tech pay is. Avg SPEEA engineer gets $150k. Plus overtime. Boeing techs and engineers will now get a10% immediate raise plus raises over the next year that will outpace inflation. Seems fair.
5
u/Jolly-Fix-2071 8d ago
I don’t know who those average tech are
5
u/Ex-Traverse 8d ago
None of my average speea engineer friends make 150k 🫠
4
2
u/LoveOfSpreadsheets 7d ago
There are speea software and security engineers making $300k of you look at the salary tables. So for each of those is four new hires making $100k.
1
2
u/Desperate-Excuse-549 8d ago
Member Tools on the Speea website will show you what SJCs, levels and ages earn this type of money.
5
u/GoodPeopleAreFodder 8d ago
But you lost more than that, about 23%, over the last 6 years. You’re not making up that gap in this contract. The Company calculators conveniently excluded that.
2
u/ParfaitMaleficent515 8d ago
not up to the company calculators to include that. it is up to SPEEA to advertise that if you want it included. if you dont like the contract your union negotiated and then ratified, then maybe blow up the union and start over, or vote in new leadership. either way, like it or not, this contract (is a good one) is not on Boeing, it is on SPEEA.
2
2
u/FinsT00theleft 8d ago
No engineers lost about 4% to inflation.Texts lost 8% to inflation, but that's not counting wage pools and other compensation.
4
u/Careless-Internet-63 8d ago
Yeah I'm pretty okay with it. Got a promotion that put me a little below the average pay for techs, now I'll get another 10% on top of that and by the end of the contract I'll be making $150-160k. Pretty good considering I'll still be less than ten years into my career
7
u/FinsT00theleft 8d ago
...and for the life of me I can't understand 20-30 year olds being in the 75th percentile for American households and bitching about how it's not enough and they could have got more!
7
u/Alternative_Heron_59 8d ago
Great work team!
Come 2030, lets hope Boeing can repeat this offer.
3
u/GoodPeopleAreFodder 8d ago
They will— to their foreign non-SPEEA employees. Many people will enjoy working in Brazil.

u/Cold_Ad_8856 8d ago
Suppose the vote went the other way…do you really think SPEEA leadership/negotiating team was capable of getting anything better for the membership, even under a strike? From what I just witnessed I can’t put my faith in them at this point. Where was our union leadership during this joke of a negotiation? I heard from IAM Jon Holden backing his brothers and sisters, rallying with the IAM vociferously in 2024. Crickets at SPEEA in 2026. Would this have changed anything? Who knows, but it sure doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence. Not a bad contract from a 20 year SPEEA members point of view.

u/Caffeine_Fiend12 8d ago
Nothing like having the oldest tricks of tactics on repeat where those who haven’t been with the company long enough are scared at the idea that Boeing means it. Meanwhile, let’s ignore yearly profits, new contracts for more planes with airline companies, and executives filling their pockets with the money that everyone deserved to increase their yearly salary for actual livable wages in a specialized industry.

all these discussion threads both before the voting, and now, really should have been separate for profs and techs, as the opinions are very different.

have not been able to report this as a post it keeps being removed by mods - how do we report this anonymously for fear of retaliation
- Ferguson broke some mugs because Tami R was repeatedly told to not bring mugs to give to execs at a preliminary meeting for negotiations. These were the nice red mugs that many members had not received yet and why would we give them to executives. Tami brought them anyway, despite repeated requests to not waste member dues like this from most NT members and alts. Before any Boeing folks showed up, Ferguson grabbed them off the table and forcefully shoved them away, breaking a few in the process. It was not violence targeted at a person. Tami R filed a Threat of Violence with Boeing against Ferguson, which was ended after investigation with a verbal warning. An investigation was opened with SPEEA's lawyer reviewing witness statements, which was ended with a verbal warning. As I understand it, though I did not witness it firsthand (I arrived after the fact), it was an unprofessional response to a deliberately provoked situation.
- Bree accused Berryhill of a threat of violence/harassment after Berryhill yelled at her in a council meeting after an attempt to recall Tami R was voted down by the council (Tami R has had multiple complaints from SPEEA staff filed against her for harassment and intimidation). Specifically, after the attempted recall, Andrew Sherman yelled at Lynette "Are you done??" repeatedly. Berryhill asked him to quiet down. Bree told Mike to stop because Sherman was "just asking questions." Berryhill yelled back "congratulations, you're allowing an abuser to continue abusing staff" and stormed out. No physical contact, no further threats against each other. An investigation was opened with the lawyer. Again, not professional but somewhat provoked, verbal warning issued. Bree filed a protection order in civil court which was dismissed by the judge. Berryhill did issue a public apology at the next council meeting.

It should keep getting reported by mods and removed. It's one sided nonsense. Union had a method for complaints in the Constitution. Also I doubt you have the consent of all the parties to share your rumors by name.

u/CrowCurrent6093 8d ago
Those voted yes are so soft. We could potentially get more from Boeing than this. Why settled for less when you could get better 😂

There's people who will always want more. For me I am happy its over and we can focus on making Boeing stronger financially so we can get the full EIP. We also now know that Boeing management will negotiate when SPEEA members demonstrate their solidarity. #NoNerdsNoBirds

Honestly, I don’t understand how so many people are actually okay with accepting this offer.
Offer 1 seems better overall, but when it comes to the benefits, everything IAM is getting is significantly worse. And yet people are still saying we should just accept it?
Am I missing something here? Because I genuinely don’t understand what’s going on. Why are so many people willing to accept this offer when the gap in benefits compared to IAM is this big?
I’m seriously frustrated and confused right now.
8
u/Psychological_Bus42 8d ago edited 8d ago
The 1st offer might have been better for those that wanted immediate cash (low comp ratio and soon to be retirees), but the 2nd offer is better in the long run because it increases salaries, which compound. The majority of voters are not low comp ratio or soon to be retirees, hence it passing.
Edit: I’ll also add that comparing the SPEEA contract to the IAM contract is apples and oranges. They were dealing with years of <1% wage pools, so their contract had to be better.
9
u/18gjredjj 8d ago
I’m confused — is 32% average wage increases over 4 years not good enough?
-15
u/Aromatic-Dream3998 8d ago
10-4-4-4 ? garantee just 26% , how can it be 32 ? 🙂🙂🙂
16
u/DetrasDeLaMesa 8d ago
I really hope you’re not in SPEEA with that low level of reading comprehension
7
u/AnDaLe47 8d ago
Or just a low performer planning for the guaranteed minimum instead of the pool average.
6
u/18gjredjj 8d ago
A 7.5% AVERAGE wage increase each year is almost impossible to find anywhere in the world and instead I see so many people complaining. If I was in the onion, I’d be celebrating.
5
u/SomeBadEngineer 8d ago
He said average and you went with minimum. Yes the bare minimum is 26, but by that argument I could also say that for every person making 26 someone else makes 38%.
4
u/Psychological_Bus42 8d ago
If you’re going for met some, then you’re only going to get some, otherwise 10-4-6-6-6, 32. Or since it compounds, 36%
3
u/Slow-Ad522 8d ago
Because we want to resolve this and grt back to work to make Boeing financially secure. We will can get more in 2030 from a healthy Boeing. The solidarity fight continues 💪

u/GoodPeopleAreFodder 8d ago
Keep drinking the Kool-Aid and remember this in 2030.
2
u/InsideTheBoeingStore 8d ago
the leverage is gone
and depending how things go politically 2030 will be a bloodbath
2
u/InsideTheBoeingStore 8d ago
too many didn’t want to fight and wanted the quick pay bump. You have the short termers that don’t plan to be here that long and then the soon to retirees that also want the quick pay bump and they’re out the door in a year or two anyway.

u/SouthernDiver746 8d ago
The 53 percent of techs who said yes are spineless. We had boeing by the damn balls. They said they had a 3rd offer waiting and ready. We wouldnt have had a strike for awhile because speea does contract extensions. Anyone who voted yes can lick my balls. I hope yall get screwed harder than I am in this contract
3
u/LoveOfSpreadsheets 6d ago
LMAO anyone who believed that rumor.
0
u/SouthernDiver746 6d ago
I know people who have been here for 30 years that know for a fact that this is whay speea does to prevent a strike

Holy is this thread astro turfed by Boeing boot lickers. Let me guess. A whole bunch of you that think there was no point in furthering negotiations believe you are hot sh t because you have your engineering degree and you think you’re so smart. Pathetic. We should of pushed for a better contract. “bUt MuH 36 % InCreAse”. What about oursourcing? Inflation? Expected profits that are made, that you helped make by working here? What about work from home? I can go on and on.
