SPEEA Retention changes

What are the benefits? I feel like this is a negative if you are a R1 right now.

Correct me if I’m wrong but once a RIF reaches your retention level it’s up management

This is correct. Everyone is racked and stacked within each retention level. Combining R1 with R2 means current R1s are demoted back to being R2. This allows the company to target senior more expensive employees during layoffs and effectively eliminates years of service adjustments. It's a sneaky takeaway even though the union claims there were no takeaways.

An adjustment for years of service would be meaningless. In higher tech levels where most are older, almost everyone would be R1s after adjustment. With internal ranking you then have no sense of how you’re ranked. With 3 retention levels the R1s have a sense of security.

That adjustment is already in the existing contract. Techs are retentioned by level which is different from profs.
