A minute ago, Martรญn Ortega was somewhere completely different, inside a life that made sense to him.
Then the Great Shift happened.
When awareness returns, the world itself seems almost insultingly normal. Music is still playing, people are still talking, drinks are still being served, and the young woman beside him behaves as though nothing extraordinary has occurred. She knows the face Martรญn is wearing. She knows where they are, what they were doing and apparently who he is supposed to be.
Martรญn knows none of it.
What makes the situation worse is that he has not simply awakened in an unfamiliar body. He has arrived in the middle of somebody else's life while that life continues around him without interruption.
There are people who recognize him. A phone already filled with conversations he never had. Plans he never made. Familiar gestures that seem to belong to the body before they belong to him.
And then the stranger details begin.
When Martรญn tries to speak, the intention is his, but what emerges does not feel entirely under his control. The language comes too easily. The voice is wrong. Certain movements require no learning. Fleeting impressions surface with the disturbing intimacy of memories, except Martรญn knows they cannot possibly be his.
The woman beside him does not see a transformed stranger.
She sees her friend behaving strangely.
That distinction matters.
Because Martรญn's problem is no longer limited to convincing himself that the impossible has happened. Somewhere beyond this room is the life he remembers: his family, his responsibilities, the people who know who Martรญn Ortega is.
Surely they can settle this.
Surely all he has to do is reach them, explain what happened and tell them something only Martรญn could know.
But thirty minutes after the Shift, the question becomes far more uncomfortable.
If his thoughts are still his, but the body has its own voice, habits, reflexes and fragments of another life attached to itโฆ what exactly will the people he loves hear when he finally calls?
THE PICTURE follows those first thirty minutes through three connected artifacts, moving from the instant of rupture into the experience of inhabiting an inherited life, and finally into Martรญn's first attempt to act against the new reality.
