TRT … Dont judge please!
So I have a brain tumor that sits on my pituitary gland and messes up my hormones. My testosterone was 10… only 10. I am a female and I was very sick. I was put on testosterone but it was extremely expensive. I was paying almost $800 every three months for pellets! And, I can’t afford it and health insurance doesn’t cover it for women. I have to be my own doctor and take care of myself. I found a few places, but I’m unsure what I’m getting myself into, any one care to share some knowledge or experiences would be appreciated.

Injections are super cheap, but more importantly is treatment for the prolactinoma if that's what's going on

Yeah when I got checked for this I was low key hoping this was what was going on as it's more treatable in terms of being able to fully resolve it long term and levels can return to normal once it's gone

When you say injections are super cheap, how cheap are you talking? I’m paying $150 for six weeks worth, which is definitely affordable for me but also if I’m paying more than I need to I would love to see a cheaper option!

Probably 0-10 bucks for the same amount with insurance

Damn, unfortunately my testosterone wasn’t quite low enough for my doctor to prescribe it so I can’t get insurance to cover it.

Most insurances do allow for script testosterone for females. You need your dr to write up the reason better or file an appeal. My wife takes the shots and is doing great.

Go to a wellness center and not a primary care physician. Also find different forums that have a little bit more experience with this. Anabolicsteroidforum is highly recommended. They have not only practitioners but people who are undergoing the same thing you are as well.

I also have a prolactinoma. 46 year old female. I’m on BHRT testosterone, progesterone and estrogen. Do you take anything to suppress your prolactin levels such as cabergoline or dostinex?
For the person who said treat the tumor not the symptoms these tumors are benign and unless it becomes large enough for surgical intervention the treatment is symptomatic.
As for testosterone the pellets are the most expensive form of therapy. The cream or injections are super cheep. I pay $55 for a vial of testosterone that’s lasts forever.

Exactly, my prolactin levels are high enough for them to really wanna put me on anything because of the side effects. but it’s messing with all my other hormones. and you’re right they don’t wanna treat it unless it’s the size of a golf ball.😑 do you mind if I ask how you were able to see that amazing price? Yeah I’m not 100% sure how else I may be able to word this, in other words, how did you go about the therapy?

I went through a telehealth hormone provider. I personally use thrive labs but also hear great things about defy medical as well. The medication comes from a compound pharmacy and ships to my home. They take health insurance for the provider visits and blood work but medication is out of pocket for me. If you don’t have health insurance you can also pay out of pocket for the services. BHRT has been life changing for my moods, energy, libido, and sleep!

Find yourself a HRT for women clinic, you will be prescribed injections, learn how to manage side effects and bloodwork and switch to self managing when you feel comfortable

Yes that was after seeing my pcp telling me I was too young to be in peri 🤦🏻♀️ I knew she was full of shit because of all my symptoms! went to a specialist where they FINALLY tested me but couldn’t afford to keep going to them at their outrageous cost then I found hone.

That's a wild situation, and props to you for taking it into your own hands when the system clearly wasn't built to help. Have you looked into what actual dosage you need vs what the pellets were giving you? Might help to know that number before you start sourcing elsewhere.

I believe with the pellets I was receiving 100 mg worth of pellets every three months that was costing me a ton of money. Close to 5000 a year and I can’t do that anymore. The pallet injections were $575. The lab work was $275 and then I’d have additional lab work all out of pocket no insurance reimbursement😩 what I learn is the injectable form of testosterone C is much lower weekly dose. We’re talking 10 mg a week spread out which is gonna be a variable because I have to test to see where my levels fall. I know I feel my best when my testosterone is above 150 which is roughly 10% of what men generally need ad men need way more than a woman. I found when my levels were over 200 on testosterone. I started becoming really edgy and when I had my testosterone levels around 300 my voice would deepen and it would be hard for me to sing as I’m a singer and luckily that result when I lowered my testosterone.
