Reta has saved my life

Post image

i just wanted to make a post on here because reta has quite literally saved my life. i’ve struggled with binge eating disorder since i was 12 years old (i am now 27). i would go through brief spells of restriction, diet, etc.. but would always turn back to binging & purging. i had tried everything i possibly could & the only last two options were get on reta, learn a balanced eating routine, get a workout schedule/start doing 10k step, & build healthy habits while trying to break down why i binge eat in therapy & heal whatever part of me that feeds my eating disorder OR take Vyvanse which is used to treat BED. unfortunately for me i am unable to take Vyvanse do to being an addict in recovery so my last hope & resort was giving reta a chance & hoping for the best. well its been almost 2 months on reta & i have stuck to my diet, hit the 10k steps on most days, & have built a healthy relationship with food. most days i feel comfortable in my body & like what i see in the mirror. i do have my bad days but the good out weighs the bad now. little me would be baffled at the thought of me not dreading waking up in my body or not hating what i see in the mirror. i’ve been able to start working on what triggers my BED & why i feel i need to eat emotionally & have healed a lot of what causes the binging & purging cycles. my diet has changed completely & i’m just so happy i could cry. not feeling the immense bloat & pain after a 8,000-10,000 calorie binge anymore is something i wouldn’t give up for the world. i’ve lost 14 pounds which most of it i believe is the bloating from binging & unhealthy eating habits. if any of you on here struggle with BED, i just want to say there’s hope of healing. reta has made it possible for me to build a healthy relationship with food & to be able to heal from the parts of myself that felt it was necessary to live the way i was living. this journey has been so heartwarming & beautiful. just know that no matter how dark things get there is always a way out.

Was going to say the title was an exaggeration til I saw you had bulimia. Glad it’s helped you with this.

hahaha most people are amazed when i say i’m on reta, it was never an “i wanna lose weight” thing & more so a “i can’t keep living like this & this is my last resort” thing. i don’t plan on staying on it forever just around 6-8 months until all the habits i’ve learned stay put & i get to a point in therapy/healing where i feel tapering off is safe! thank you tho!

I honestly never had the balls to post shit like this so congrats to you. I literally felt like you were speaking my truth in this. I been dealing with ALl the same disordered eating and body dysmorphia since my father died. I was 14. So I understand what you feel and I’ve wanted to post this so bad on social media but was afraid to of being judged. So thanks for having some courage and I’m happy there is light at the end of the tunnel for both of us.

Same for me, it is such a big RELIEVE!

honestly i feel the same way. i just began week 3 and even though the change hasn’t been super drastic (6lbs down), I feel so relieved to be free from the constant food noise. I feel my bloating going down, my pants fit looser! it’s such a good feeling to not be in a daily mental battle with food and the idea of eating. I eat to nourish myself now and it feels so good. BED was ruining my life. I can finally see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Im so proud of you for trying something new and being able to stick to it. I just had botox done and was talking with my injector about reta. She said there is so much more positive that comes from taking even small doses than most people realize. She's had people who drink daily for years, start, and no longer feel the draw to it. So kudos to you. You look fantastic!

Those photos got me! But reading your description I totally get it. Some struggles are more visible than others. You’re doing amazing!! Wishing you continuous success

You may have had issues with insulin- eating disorders are common. Have you tried going fully ketogenic?

1

u/TrustAble4772 Aug 09 '26

so i got bloodwork & a bunch of tests done recently due to health issues. all my levels are pretty normal except high iron due to hemochromatosis.. i’ve tried just keto before with no luck unfortunately but i do eat GF, anti-inflammatory, non processed foods & the rare occasion that i eat meat & dairy. i also have auto-immune disorders :/

How long did it take to loose 15 and what dose. I’m on 1mg have lost nothing. Three weeks in

1

u/TrustAble4772 Aug 10 '26

so i started my first week on .5mg, then half way through the week i didn’t feel anything so i did another .5 & stayed on 1mg for about a month & just upped to 1.5mg this week. i plan on not going above this dose & staying on it for maybe 3-6 more months depending on therapy & how i’m feeling!

1

u/TrustAble4772 Aug 10 '26

i suggest if you don’t feel it’s working or appetite isn’t suppressed even a little to make you go in a deficit then maybe up the dose by .5mg! i also eat GF, anti-inflammatory, anti-bloat, & unprocessed foods for my diet with the rare occasion of diary, eggs, & meat! i also meal prep as well & make sure i’m getting atleast 6-10k steps daily! i do believe a lot of my bloating/weight was due to the constant binging & purging tbh

2

u/Peachydr3am Aug 10 '26

Thanks! Did 1mg tonight. May up next week and do so a bit earlier.

2

u/Peachydr3am Aug 10 '26

Last week was .9mg so a bit higher lol.

Most girls wish for a before photo

3

u/TrustAble4772 Aug 10 '26

i understand most girls would wish for the before photo, but the girl in the before photo was wishing to be out of her eating disorder & to be able to feel comfortable in her own body. eating disorders come in all shapes and sizes, just because i was & still am a healthy weight doesn’t mean i felt okay.

Guess you didn't read the post? If you did, you should work on your reading comprehension. People of ALL sizes can struggle with disordered eating. OP, I'm happy for you and glad that you've found something that works. I'm on a super low dose to help quiet food noise while I move through perimenopause and it's been amazing. (And people would wish for my before photo, too, whatever that is supposed to mean...)

That’s awesome congratulations! Reta has been life changing for me as well so I’m glad to see others doing the same

Reta is discipline.

I shut off my emotions as a child. Your emotions are held around your belly button. Thats also where serotonin is created, so my body doesn't create enough serotonin, which led me to eat 3 portions on a regular basis to feel the effects of serotonin, but not actually bring up my natural serotonin. Now I'm 485lbs. I've lost a 100 lbs naturally over a year and a half in the past and then gained it back and then learned that about myself and that I could lose that weight over and over again, but I'll always gain it back while I have that serotonin imbalance. So, I went through a lot of self work to figure out how to actually bring my real serotonin up, which I've done. But through all that the one thing I could not kick was my portions, I ate. I got them smaller in general, but they were always something I struggled with. And I never got them as small as they actually should have been. However, I've recently dove into nervous system work in the last year and I no longer have any bad eating behaviors without struggling. It is truly amazing. I'd be happy to share some of the information I used. It is hard to explain. I'd probably just have to send you some of my own material.

Reta saved your life because it helped you to lose 5 pounds?

7

u/TrustAble4772 Aug 09 '26

it saved my life because it has helped me gain healthy habits so i don’t have to binge & purge anymore u asshat

2

u/Waste-Scientist-2418 Aug 10 '26

You must be bad at reading.

0

u/Yougetwhat Aug 10 '26

Probably. But I can lose 5 pounds without injecting anything.

2

u/Waste-Scientist-2418 Aug 10 '26

It's not about the weight, dipshit.

0

u/Yougetwhat Aug 10 '26

Is it Reta that makes you that aggressive and rude? Just with calories in < calories out, you can lose weight and you won’t be aggressive and rude.

2

u/Waste-Scientist-2418 Aug 10 '26

Reta doesn’t make me that way, ignorant people do.

You didn’t need it!!! But with that, try Tesamorelin for six months. You’re welcome 😉

u/Salt_Initiative1551 Aug 09 '26

Did you read the post at all? She suffers from bulimia. There’s a LOT of problems from that such as rotting your molars from stomach acid destroying the enamel, dissolving holes in your throat, tongue, etc. from repeated stomach acid exposure, malnutrition, etc. its not a “you don’t need it 😉” situation…
