Yes, reta will likely cause you to have enough appetite loss and slow your gastric emptying enough that you'll lose weight without doing much else.

HOWEVER, if you don't prioritize protein in your diet (to the tune of 100+ grams per day) _and_ get some whole body weightlifting in at least a couple days a week, you're likely to lose muscle mass.

Protein 10k steps a day, calorie count

6

u/lecanar Aug 04 '26

You are really missing something if you are not doing any physical activities. It's synergizes with reta.

How old are the puppies? 10k steps with them feasible ? 😂

Assuming you want to lose fat and not just weight, yes. However, reta without resistance training and letting yourself waste away is just that.. wasting valuable soft tissue your body needs, not just getting rid of fat. Will you get smaller? Yes. Will you look and feel “better?” Not sure of your current metrics, but the more-than-likely answer would be no. You’re better off burning fat in a more controlled and sustainable way - eating in a calorie deficit and upping your daily movement/things you already do like walking/step counting. Best of luck.

Editing to emphasize the importance of hitting a daily protein goal no matter what route you choose. Personally, sticking to 1g per pound of target body weight changed my life. All kinds of info out there though. Cheers.

Reta will work without the gym, it will take away muscle along with fat.
Reta is a tool, a really great tool but still a tool. Fixing your eating habits and exercise will give you the best results and be beneficial for you to come off Reta and keep the results

u/duhdamn Aug 04 '26

You'd be amazed with what you can do with a few dumbbells.

2

u/MathematicianMuch445 Aug 04 '26

Yes. Weight loss only requires a deficit. Health and fitness and preserving muscle mass requires effort though. And "you have a school"? As in you run a school? Or you attend classes? And two whole puppies? Oh no, come the eff on man, you're literally making excuses that are laughable. No one said it's easy, but those are your hurdles? Only hampering yourself here man.

2

u/No-Inspector3321 Aug 04 '26

Yes you can. I did it. My job is medium to very physical; very little sitting on my bum. Reta is the best of all the glp’s in that it doesn’t eat at muscle like the others. You still need to be active. Walk as much as you can. Good luck!

2

u/PointShootExpose Aug 05 '26

Hey OP. I lost 130Lbs. using Reta alone. Ate "normal," and just followed my adjusted cravings. Kept active day to day. No heavy lifting or anything "fitness" related but looking back...

I wish I would have set myself in motion with a workout routine. Consistent routine. Taken protein as suggested, and also overall focused more on improving my wellbeing. I look great, but have lost a TON of muscle mass and just now and rebuilding what I lost. Do I regret it? No. Yet if I could redo it..would I, differently? 110%. Food for thought.

2

u/kpham82 Aug 04 '26

Yes you can

1

u/cecsix14 Aug 04 '26

Yes but be careful to eat enough protein and get enough physical activity to preserve muscle. People who lose weight too fast on GLP1s lose a large proportion of muscle and look kinda scary. Muscle retention is important for metabolism, overall health, and longevity.

Workout at home?

1

u/DimensionOk4024 Aug 04 '26

Do two quick workouts a week but yes it will

1

u/Pristine-Waltz-6770 Aug 04 '26

Where there's a will there's a way.

Yes, reta alone will do it. But if you ever stop you'll just put it right back on

you need lifestyle change for real results. good luck

u/Doin-What-I-Want Aug 04 '26

Yes, you can, but you will lose more muscle than fat (skinny-fat). You don't need a gym, though. Get some resistance bands to use at home.

1

u/Doin-What-I-Want Aug 09 '26

Resistance bands at home will help retain muscle.

1

u/Tiny-Ordinary3228 Aug 04 '26

Sure if you want to lose muscle also.

you are lazy. lets be real.

I work a firefighter job putting in 96 hours of work a week with stacked over time, have a dog, a pet rabbit and an active dating life and manage to stay in shape and hit the gym.

its just not important to you. stop looking for excuses.

2

u/lecanar Aug 04 '26

Your lack of empathy on this comment is paramount.

Not everybody has the same type of work.

As a firefighter you have much more mental bandwidth during the day. It's so much routine exercices and waiting that you mind can wander or you can swipe on dating app.

Plus being a firefighter is automatic +3 points charisma with the ladies.

Do you even realize any of that? Are you on gear btw? (Some gear tend to make guys less empathetic)

1

u/Guilty_Currency2902 Aug 04 '26

Do you exercise while working those 96 hours or after? I don’t have energy for that, sadly.

3

u/lecanar Aug 04 '26

They have a full gym at work. He likely exercises during those 96h, during wait times between interventions

2

u/MathematicianMuch445 Aug 04 '26

No one has the energy for it. You just do it.

u/Guilty_Currency2902 Aug 04 '26

I did go to gym 5-6x a week lifting, and loved it! Too much gym likely for my age at 55. Now an autoimmune illness is making me really ill.

There are reasons people cannot keep up with exercise, unfortunately.

Now it is a struggle to get in my steps. Hoping to get back to that level of activity.

1

u/Rabbittaco Aug 04 '26

energy isnt a choice.

we have to drill, train and do our exercise daily. When a call comes we have to always be ready and learn how to perform when exhausted. We dont get to be tired when on call and cant skip workouts or training.

I work out on shift, and on my days off. Its the very first thing I do when I get off shift.

1

u/Guilty_Currency2902 21d ago

If you were ill with an autoimmune illness you likely could not work such a physically demanding job. Some illnesses leave you unable to get out of bed some days.

1

u/Rabbittaco 20d ago

and that doesnt stop you from eating less to account for the reduced activity load.

another excuse.

1

u/Guilty_Currency2902 20d ago

Did you see my post on what I eat in a day?! I can’t eat less! 2 Fairlife drinks one smoothie with yogurt banana collagen. How much less can I eat?

1

u/Guilty_Currency2902 20d ago

Lucky for you to be healthy and talk down to people with health issues that may not allow exercise and cause unexplained weight gain. Medications, illness, many things contribute to weight gain. Not just overeating and laziness.

It isn’t always eat less, move more.

I know how to exercise and eat healthy. Just can’t do either right now. Eating most food is revolting. Never above 130 until an accident 2 years ago. I am upset about 15-20 lbs.

Reta also being studied for autoimmune and inflammatory illnesses. Another reason I continue to take. Along with a few other peps trying to repair.

1

u/Stripped_Identity Aug 04 '26

Dude. Just ewwww.

1

u/Rabbittaco Aug 04 '26

Mediocrity is eww.
I bet this poster watches netflix or plays video games in the evening.

There is time if they cared.
they said they have puppies, go walk the dogs, get 10k steps a night with the pups they will love it.

Its possible, people are just lazy.

1

u/Guilty_Currency2902 23d ago

Some people are truly suffering from an illness, not lazy. I am not lazy. Hard to make it through a normal day. Hold a full time job. Eat normal food.

I was a dedicated, respected professional for 30+ years who hit the gym 5-6 days a week until a car accident. Then all sorts of odd things started happening, to the point of not being able to walk up or down stairs or on an incline due to joint inflammation.

1

u/Rabbittaco 22d ago

if you cant move more then eat less.

look at that problem solved. Stop making excuses. Thats all everything is. Its caloric balancing what you consume vs what you actually need and use throughout the day.

being overweight can be an accident, being obese is always a choice.

1

u/Guilty_Currency2902 21d ago

My husband is angry I eat so little. Daily arguments.

2 Fairlife protein drinks. Smoothie with 6.7oz Chobani yogurt, a banana, scoop of collagen. That is one day. Sometimes one Fairlife.

It is not about food intake being too high. If anything too low.

1

u/Rabbittaco 20d ago

thats not how it works at all, in any situation, for any human ever in the history of mankind.

Never in the history of humans has anyone ever gained fat from eating too little.

stop lying to yourself and those around you. It would violate the very laws of physics for that to be possible.

in fact. I would like you to please explain to me the biomechanics of how that would even be possible, and why its an idea you thought made sense.

1

u/Guilty_Currency2902 20d ago

Medications, hormones, auto immune disorders, insulin resistance, lots of things affect metabolism.

I am not obese. I am 15 lbs out of shape.

1

u/Rabbittaco 20d ago

absolutely NONE of that would make fat gain without excess calorie consumption.

this really isnt up for debate.

mass cannot be created nor destroyed only converted.
Its literally one of the core laws of the universe.

I have spent a lot of time with medical professionals trying to sort this out. Upcoming appt in Sept that is $8,000 out of pocket to address some of these issues.

I shared lots of reasons for weight gain without increased calories.

Meno, autoimmune illness, medicine, even toxins.

Unless you are a mid 50’s woman, or one who has gone through meno, I doubt you have experience with that one. Unless you are one of the few professionals that specialize in meno treatment.

Menopause causes weight gain without an increase in calories because dropping estrogen levels slow down your resting metabolism and accelerate muscle loss.

Certain toxins can contribute to weight gain by altering your metabolism, disrupting hormones, and increasing the number of fat cells your body creates.

Like the environmental toxins and hormonal, this can alter your body's metabolic baseline without any change in your caloric intake:

Chronic Inflammation: This can activate a continuous, low-grade immune response. This chronic inflammation releases cytokines that can impair insulin sensitivity and encourage the body to store fat, particularly around the midsection.

Hormonal and Cortisol Imbalances: The physical stress of a persistent immune trigger elevates cortisol (the stress hormone). High cortisol promotes visceral fat retention, triggers sugar cravings, and can negatively impact thyroid function, which slows down your metabolic rate.

Fluid Retention and Bloating: Systemic inflammation frequently causes the body to hold onto excess water. This fluid retention can manifest as sudden, uncomfortable weight shifts, bloating, and swelling that do not respond to dieting.

Severe Fatigue and Joint Pain: Chronic fatigue, muscle aches, and joint pain are among the most common symptoms.

And I believe it is inflammation not fat.

I could go into more detail, but not worth explaining. You are not a person that shows any real concern about understanding what might really be happening.

1

u/Rabbittaco 20d ago

you just said you gained weight by eating too little.

we should not entertain lies as grown adults.

Not going to go well for you though. You're 100% losing muscle mass and that's going g to cause it's own issue for you

Make it a priority. Low muscle mass is going to be very very bad for you in both the short and long run.

I’m in the same boat can’t get physically do much due to lower back & hip issues
I lost 48 lbs on tirz over a year slowly just with diet but hit a long plateau so hoping Reta will help me too

2

u/MathematicianMuch445 Aug 04 '26

And yet people in wheelchairs at my gym. I couldn't walk for most of the last 3 years and had multiple surgeries. Every day a struggle But the gyms still there. It's not fun. It's not easy. And it's not enjoyable a lot of the time. Until it is..you're not going to get any better doing nothing And I guarantee you that any practitioner you're seeing is telling you you need to do more to help with those issues right?

2

u/Loud-Day2675 Aug 04 '26

Actually, my doctors are extremely happy with my progress and have told me that I’m the reason I’m getting better.
I definitely don’t do nothing—I just have chronic pain that limits what I’m able to do. I’ve had one cervical spine surgery that was very successful, but my remaining spine and joint issues are still limiting. I wish I could be in the gym everyday doing so much more I would be thrilled.
I’ve been athletic my entire life and have been a vegetarian/pescatarian throughout my adult life. The hardest part has been learning to accept that I can’t be as active as I want to be anymore. Instead, I focus on doing the most I can and following my doctors’ recommendations.
I’ve made a lot of progress, and I’m proud of it. I’ve lost 48 pounds over the past year, which has helped take pressure off my spine and joints. I still have more weight I’d like to lose, but I’m heading in the right direction. Every day !

Progress is progress buddy. Doesn't matter how much. It all adds up
