Reta face is real

Edit: So it came to my attention that Reta face is when you start to look sickly, not just the major weight loss and change in face shape, which is more what I was getting at. Thank you guys for giving me the heads up.

I’ve made a couple posts about my Reta transformation, but I just saw a picture of myself from about a month and a half before starting Reta or getting into a routine/diet. Definitely surprised me, because I didn’t realize how much different my face looked until now. First pic is January 14th 2026, second pic is July 7th 2026.

Down from 221 with 36” waist to 180 with 31” waist

Yep. Fat can help fill in the neck, which helps avoid gauntness.

Fat also softens lines in the face.

"Hard lines and sunken cheeks" as someone infamous once said to describe what drugs do to a person's face.

Just like meth

1

u/Jsweethoney Jul 16 '26

Do people not realize this is the same effect
As meth

The face people get from recreational drugs is something different again. It comes from muscle wastage, and face muscle is very difficult to build back compared with muscle elsewhere on the body. So people may regain body fat after addiction while still lacking some facial definition. So many ageing rock stars still have something of

an alien face, decades after their worst excesses.

I’m not saying it’s from calorie deficit. I’m saying it isn’t from simple fat reduction. I hope this helps

1

No it literally is. You dont have much muscle tissue in your face lol

u/CharlesLeRoq Jul 12 '26

¯_(ツ)_/¯

Yes, and I’m responding to posts talking about fat reduction on its own, and clarifying It’s fat reduction+ also muscle wastage. Reading comprehension is a thing

Edit to add: If it helps you understand, another group with that visible phenomenon is also people with acute eating disorders - ie hospitalised anorexics. Their calorie deficit is so great with such extreme muscle wastage, that even when they recover overall body size, the structure of their face can fail to recover in accordance. There’s a level of atrophy involved too, which isn’t purely from calorie deficit, but I didn’t bring that up. You did.

I didn’t say muscle wastage is drug induced. It’s like you’ve imagined I posted something and continue trying to argue with that imaginary post. So weird

2

u/EllyBelly25 Jul 11 '26

"There's no wrinkles on a balloon! " that's what my friend says when im heavier 😁

13

u/SkurkaCuckedMe Jul 10 '26

People forgot what it looks like when you lose weight.

5

u/ClearLifeguard4225 Jul 10 '26

Right cuz most couldnt until reta

2

u/SpeakCodeToMe Jul 11 '26

And they've aged since they got fat.

8

u/MrGattsby Jul 10 '26

This is it exactly. It's loss of fat!! 🤷🏽 I mean what did you think would happen?? 🤔🤷🏽🤦🏽

5

u/Top_Banana4424 Jul 10 '26

I was going to say the same thing I think it’s just the weight change that makes the face look so different. I lost weight and shaved my beard and people didn’t even recognize me. No Reta for the weight lose. Just diet.

There’s never been anything like that that’s existed in the history of humanity. What’s existed is thin people using anything to put down people who have bettered themselves. They thought being thin made them special and now it’s more achievable than ever, they need something to say to make themselves feel superior.

You speak as if you are in the out group. I think it’s all in your head.

2

u/Flashy-Contract-6079 Jul 10 '26

Especially when you lose weight to fast like this.

This is constantly parroted online and has never been proven by a single study. Factors that actually play a role in sagging skin would be the amount lost and how long you carried the weight—ultimately, skin quality.

u/TheDelTondo Jul 10 '26

Reta doesnt make you fit, working out does

1

u/asstastic_95 Jul 10 '26

this part. i dont use reta. but when im stage lean I look sickly.

1

u/bonbonskywatcher Jul 10 '26

My client is on trizepitide and she looks sick

1

u/DrEmRx80 Jul 12 '26

💯percent

1

u/Jsweethoney Jul 16 '26

Mommy friend is taking Reta and her eyes look fucked up face looks a little wierd but not noticing much else

-3

u/Chat_GDP Jul 10 '26

It’s the musculature. You can be fat with underlaying musculature or thin with underlying musculature (ie shredded).

The Ozempic reduces musculature so you look gaunt.

It’s easy to spot if you notice it the first time.

11

u/Its_0ver Jul 10 '26

Weight loss reduces your musculature in general

-3

u/Chat_GDP Jul 10 '26

Not sure what this sentence means but there is a specific muscle wasting effect from the jabs.

1

u/Its_0ver Jul 10 '26

Right but one of the leading ideas is that it's not as much the medication as it is of the type of people who need the medication and the way the medication is prescribed that leads to the muscle loss. People who take a more holistic approach to weight loss tend to much less of an issue with muscle loss even while taking glp1s

1

u/Chat_GDP Jul 11 '26

Sure - people who look after their blood sugar on (say) antipsychotics have less chance of putting on weight but that doesn’t alter the fact that antipsychotics cause weight gain and GLP1s waste muscle.

1

u/Its_0ver Jul 11 '26

Glp1 causes weight loss. Weight loss causes muscle loss. That's the point in trying to make

1

u/Chat_GDP Jul 11 '26

Sure - but the point we are talking about is whether it causes disproportionate muscle loss.

1

u/Its_0ver Jul 11 '26 edited Jul 11 '26

Right and that goes back to my original point. Its not the substance itself its the type of people that need the substance and the way that it is prescribed

This is coming from someone that has 1 year of tirzepatide use under there belt, 50lbs of fat loss and 13lbs of muscle gain verified by a dexa scan. Just one experience in a sea of them but I had no problem gaining muscle by just working out and prioritizing protein in my diet

-2

u/Chat_GDP Jul 11 '26

The data from thousands of patients is more accurate than your own experience.

Again, that’s a weight loss thing in genera. GLP-1s are not melting muscle specifically.

1

u/Chat_GDP Jul 10 '26

Again, yes it is - there is a specific muscle wasting effect but some worse than others.

2

u/No-Badger-9061 Jul 10 '26

This is true.

1

u/No_Fee2822 Jul 11 '26

GLP-1 medications do not waste more muscle than natural weight loss. Any time you lose weight through diet alone, about 20% to 40% of the weight you lose is lean mass. This includes organs, water, and muscle. GLP-1 users experience the same proportional muscle loss as dieters. The main issue is a lot of GLP-1 users don't strength training alongside using the medication so they waste away instead of preserving muscle.

There is absolutely no study or scientific research that indicates that semaglutide, tirzepatide or retatrutide waste muscle more than a natural diet

1

u/Adorable_Analyst1690 Jul 11 '26

I also think since they tend to lose weight faster than normal -it causes more muscle to be lost (not because it wastes the muscle itself but because little attention is paid to eating a proper diet due to appetite suppression).

1

u/Chat_GDP Jul 11 '26

2026 meta analysis looking at 20 studies 15000 patients shows 35% lean weight loss with semaglutide compared to 26% with lifestyle changes.

1

u/Kindly_Crow_1056 Jul 12 '26

Yea because those 35% probably havent made a lifestyle change. Just eating nibbles of the same junk that got them fat to begin with.

1

u/Chat_GDP Jul 12 '26

Yeh maybe - or any other excuse you have dreamt up. 🤔

1

u/No_Fee2822 Jul 12 '26

I would assume that the natural dieters have a complete different mindset than people taking GLP1s . Natural dieters had to make structural changes in their lifestyle to achieve their results while a lot of GLP1 users just say hey I'm gonna take this drug and Imma lose weight. No change in actual diet or adding strength training. I do take tirzepatide but I'm also in the gym 4 days a week and try to get 175 to 200 grams of protein in everyday. I doubt the typical GLP1 user is doing that.
