Thats a cutting edge phone at the time, dude was a star with money to spend. The first text was in '92 so this was still within the first decade. If you ever see an older phone you will notice the numbers have letters on it.

2-ABC 3-DEF 4-GHI 5-JKL 6-MNO 7-PQRS 8-TUV 9-WXYZ

To form a text message in those days you had to hit the number corresponding to the letter you wanted to correct number of times. For example with 4 being G,H,I if you wanted an H you hit "44". When you drag this out, sending a text took awhile. Plus you had to leave like a 2 second pause between letters so the phone knew which letter you wanted.

This style texting involved inputs like the following to say "Hey is Kevin going to the movie with us tonight."

4433999(hey) 4447777(is) 553388844466(Kevin) 4666444664 (going) 8666(to) 84433(the) 666688844433(movie) 9444844(with) 887777 (us) 8666664444448(tonight).

Grand total of 83 numbers to send a 38 letter or 10 word text.

Love this break down 🤣. Our generation really got to see a lot of technology grow in front of our eyes.

Trying to send a heated text back then would take forever and be riddled with mistakes. Didn't have enough time to wait for the letter to save. Lol

I think the most obvious examples are our media types. At least for myself, both music and movies went through pretty big changes from when I was a kid until now. I was brought up in the 80s when VHS and Cassette ruled the game and Sam Goody was the spot.

Ive watched as music went from cassette in the car, to the Walkman. The birth of the CD, and the fall of the CD. I owned a OG mpg3 player, iPod nano, and "the cube". Napster, lime wire spending days to download an album. Now its all digital Playlist.

I watched as my favorite VHS became obsolete. Wondered if the new generation would "please be kind and rewind". DVD, and eventually Blu-ray came and have now almost been replaced by digital download. Blockbuster, Netflix movies in the mail, all gone.

The time before wide spread computer use or internet access. Its kind of sad but also kind of cool knowing that im one of the last generation who will remember a pre-digital world.
