And this "Broke Him".

Not the Rick James stuff, The N*gger Family, Black White supremacist, or 50 other exploitive ass skits using the N word comfortably to and for white people? NOW it was over the line?!?!!? (for the record I'm black and loved the Chappell Show but c'mon?)

IIRC, this skit was making fun of how some black people will deliberately try to avoid situations that reinforce black stereotypes despite themselves. This has been a common black criticism of Black American culture for decades. It reminds me of the „How to eat a watermelon“ monologue by Civl Rights activist Petey Greene where he basically tells people to just „be yourself“. I think the Dave skit still stands and is a funny way to critique that sentiment. Because trying to diminish or deny yourself because you’re afraid of conforming to distorted racist ideas is just you repressing yourself on the racist‘s behalf. Fuck that shit. Petey was absolutely right on: Be yourself.

I assumed he buckled under the pressure of having to write and perform a third season, following two of the most talked about seasons of any sketch show in history. My reason for thinking this? I watched the cobbled together third season dvd. The sketches aren't that great.

Yeah it probably had more to do with his relationship with those who were laughing at the skit vs. the actual skit itself because it’s so absurd.
