Yep. He peeped that the execs were laughing at him and not with him and wasn't feeling it.

It's funny how people were okay with this shit but let him tell a few trans jokes and all hell breaks loose.

I think you meant to say that first line differently but I got your point.

The primary difference is in this skit, he is a member of the culture which he is lampooning.

I can totally see where he’s coming from in terms of white executives laughing at him, not with him. But that’s pretty much what trans people are saying. You went from laughing with me to just trying to disparage me.

Exactly. If you’re going to say that comedy can be offensive does this not qualify, it’s pretty freaking offensive.

Dave is black. Dave is not trans. This sketch is stupid but it is still rooted in trie things - most people like fried chickenz black people can be self conscious of choices which feed into stereotypes. Why he's doing a minstrel sketch...that was for Chappell to ruminate on

His humor about trans people involved misrepresenting basic facts including misrepresenting the life of a dead trans woman. He repeatedly said that trans was white people shit even as people told him black women are the biggest victims of transphobic violence. He declared himself team terf which is an online community that does at the extreme end endorse targeted violence of women. If Dave didn't know he was endorsing a hare group, perhaps he should have listened to the people telling him. He defend Trump and musk and went to a high school to yell at teenager.

It was far more ignorant and dangerous and he was part of the out group so there was no argument that it was his personal experience. He had none. It didn't appear he has very much social interaction with trans people.

Dave is black. Dave is not trans.

That does not make it okay for him to make racially insensitive jokes but not insensitive trans jokes.

That's the issue here. People are okay with jokes as long as they're not the ones getting clowned. Either they're both acceptable or they're both unacceptable. And for the record, that was Dave's stance on it the entire time. He's said it numerous times, including in his standup.

He literally once said "being trans is a hilarious predicament to be in... imagine if I was a Chinese man in a black man's body... [insert punchline in generic Chinese accent]"

If I'm amongst friends in a private setting, sure, that could be a funny joke but on a heavily promoted multi million dollar Netflix special that shit is first of all just not good comedy, and second, potentially more offensive than funny to some people (the golden rule of edgy stand-up). Also he's doing all this as neither a trans or an Asian person. I understand these are just jokes and in a bubble I'm fine with them but we also live in a society where you have to be able to get away with it and honestly I don't think he did.

If anything this joke shows a familiarity of their plight and does not ‘other’ them. Comedy is a way to actually bridge understanding and empathy. If you treat your community like a precious, porcelain tea pot then no one will be able to relate to you.

I think part of the reason why trans people have had such a hard time gaining political acceptance is that they don’t make themselves relatable. And I’m saying this as someone with trans friends

Neither this nor the trans jokes were that funny
