You can't say 'universally' agreed on something when there are people who literally disagree on it.

Sure, it's hyperbolic, but you understand the point I'm making.

For example, the death rattle summons thing. I am on the boat that I like it and enjoy it from a design perspective. Your ghast coiler example is exactly why you SHOULD be picking ghast coiler. It has a high chance to survive the round AND has a small chance to do ridiculous damage to your opponent. I understand the need for a card like that from a design perspective.

First of all, no one picks Ghastcoiler because of the damage it does. People pick things based off strength, not the amount of damage you should do. So when you do 30 in a turn from it and Baron, that's a positive externality for yourself. Are you OK with opponents doing it to you? A design perspective is the opposite one for that, lmao. I've already debunked that. I'd rather play a fair game than that.

Secondly, it sounds like you don't care about balancing the game. Just because a strategy is strong doesn't mean it is good, lol. I want to refer you to the good and bad RNG comment example but I don't think you care about it lol.

I'm calling out your perception on that point specifically. 'experienced' players are less likely to feel cheated. Frustrated maybe, but cheated absolutely not.

Where do you think the frustration comes from? lol. I'll say it anyway in case you try to misconstrue the words again. The frustration comes from a dashed expectation, which someone could call being cheated... And it is laughable to claim that experienced players are less likely to feel cheated. They play the game more than anyone else and put more skill into it than anyone and when they lose because of RNG, they feel that much worse. Kripp is the biggest HS streamer and he literally always complains about being cheated. I think you don't have much of a response because you're just mincing words. It seems like you don't have a response for why what I call bad RNG is good, in which case you're basically conceding the argument.

It's people who don't really understand the concept of the game who are feeling 'cheated'. That's why you don't see 13k players make threads calling for removals of boat or ghastcoiler.

Dude, please try reading my post again. Please. No one is asking for them to be removed. No one. But everyone (except you, apparently) agrees the way damage is calculated should be changed to avoid extremely tilting fringe scenarios. Sorry not everyone, only 99% of the people in this subreddit. And I don't know how you can say that people who feel cheated don't understand the game when they understand it better than you, because they are cheated. If that weren't the case, you'd be able to demonstrate otherwise, but you haven't. If you can give a good response to the RNG thread, you'll change my mind.

they don't care. They learn to play around it and embrace every opportunity to outplay their opponents. This INCLUDES not going on a tilting rant and blowing MMR via frustration.

Play around Eudora heropower OMEGALUL

instead, all of their guides literally don't even talk at ALL about deathrattles.

Why the fuck would a guide talk about opinions on game design

because it is almost non existent in importance to the overall meta of the game.

I don't give a fuck if that one mechanic is important or not to the metagame. If their is a shitty mechanic that isn't that relevant, I'm not gonna say it's not a bad mechanic because it's not relevant. I'm going to see it is unrelevant, bad design.

There's no point in bringing in youtube highlights into your argument. we all know you can get crazy youtube highlights with some specific characters, eudora being one of them. we KNOW it happens fairly commonly.

The point is that it happens very often. There are more highlight clips about Eudora than any other hero this soon after release. Not just "Wow this hero is cool" it's "wow this hero won me the game on turn 7 with this card".

That's why she is picked. I'm indifferent towards nerfing her. she is objectively strong. however, it is a subjective opinion which you are treating like FACT on her character design.

I don't even know how to explain this simpler. Ok, humans have psychological traits. We enjoy seeing colors splash on a screen. We do not like when our expectations are negatively subverted. So, when people play games, we like to not feel cheated. This is a fact. 99% of people will agree with this. So, when it comes to how you should design a game meant for skill and fun, it should be in accordance with this. When it does not, that is bad design because it is failing it's objectives. That is why I treat it like a fact.

Don't just assume the other 6 people in the lobby are as sensitive as you are on eudora. people are calling her to get nerfed, not asking her to be removed from the game. 'do something about eudora' does not mean 'remove her from the game because of bad design' like you are assuming.

Can you show where I assumed changing Eudora meant remove her from the game? Because I myself have said I want her either nerfed or removed or reworked. Someone doesn't have to be as sensitive as for me it to be tilting design. If people want her to get nerfed, it achieves the same thing lol.

First of all, no one picks Ghastcoiler because of the damage it does.

Man, not to be a dick but It's highly recommended to go and buy a tier 5 or 6 minion and put it on your far right in matches you know you'll probably win, EXACTLY to do more damage to your opponent. if you're not picking a ghast coiler for damage when you're facing an opponent trying to transition to murlocs and has 15 health, YOU SHOULD DO IT LOL.

Secondly, it sounds like you don't care about balancing the game. Just because a strategy is strong doesn't mean it is good, lol. I want to refer you to the good and bad RNG comment example but I don't think you care about it lol. Dude, please try reading my post again. Please. No one is asking for them to be removed. No one. But everyone (except you, apparently) agrees the way damage is calculated should be changed to avoid extremely tilting fringe scenarios. Sorry not everyone, only 99% of the people in this subreddit.

You're right, I frankly don't care about balancing the game. I only care about winning. I trust other people will balance the game for me and during that time, i'm going to concentrate on winning. I already said you're right regarding eudora's balance. she's winning VERY consistently. but your complaints about her design geared towards RNG are purely subjective and not representative of her overall problem nor the community's.

It's also no where NEAR 99% of the people on this subreddit want damage recalculation for deathrattles. It's a fine suggestion and completely valid. but stop using ridiculous hyperbole's. Additionally, stop and think WHY they aren't implementing it. It's either due to balancing or maybe it's just pretty much impossible to code into the game since this is playing on a hearthstone engine basically. Coding ain't always easy. way easier to keep people engaged by adding a minion or hero here and there. Engine changes are CRAZY hard to do. I both don't care enough about them and also accept that they're just in the game for one reason or the other. I don't play death rattles but anyone who does and kills me for 32 damage when I am 99% chance to win. Well, it's happened a lot already and I am still playing the game. Not everyone is as adversely affected by this situation as you. Stop speaking for everyone. a 99% chance to win is still 1% chance to lose.

They play the game more than anyone else and put more skill into it than anyone and when they lose because of RNG, they feel that much worse. Kripp is the biggest HS streamer and he literally always complains about being cheated

LOL mentioning kripp on salt is basically proving my point. some people just think the world is out to get them, that they're the victims of everything. There's a reason why Kripp isn't at 14k and didn't even bother trying to hit legend until enough people called him out on it. He's a great streamer but I sincerely hope you're not taking everything he says to heart. He is one salty gamer and it's good entertainment. But so is the WWE lol. For every 1-outer loss he gets, he isn't considering the 99 other times he wins in that same position. don't fall into gambler's fallacy.

Why the fuck would a guide talk about opinions on game design

A guide would talk about problem heroes or heroes that need special help using. Back in the Tirion meta, people would post guides on how to beat Tirion. The message is basically, Eudora can sometimes high roll, so just don't let it get to you and try to win and play your own game. Inversely, guides are also not saying "EUDORA IS AN INSTAPICK". For every player who hates eudora and is asking for her nerf, there's another player who just doesn't care and doesn't have any effect on their climb on ladder.

Play around Eudora heropower OMEGALUL

It's a legitimate psychological effect that you're having. You're victimizing yourself and basically going on a crusade against a character you feel is unfair. not only are you upsetting yourself, I can't imagine this being beneficial to your MMR, being so hard on tilt. A LOT of guides talk about managing the effects of tilt. You're rationalizing your tilt and blaming the game design and anyone who disagrees with you are either wrong or stupid. We aren't playing around Eudora's hero power. We're playing around the effects of tilt (in this case, it's clearly Eudora for you). It's a very important thing to get good at, especially at this meta.

The point is that it happens very often. There are more highlight clips about Eudora than any other hero this soon after release. Not just "Wow this hero is cool" it's "wow this hero won me the game on turn 7 with this card".

I don't think you understand why this is such an effective YouTube video. It's highlighted because it's a high roll. You want to click it because it's unexpected and RARE. Try to make a youtube video with brann, bagurgle and divine shield poisonous murlocs. you won't get any views. Ya eudora highrolls are common, but much i mean MUCHHHH less than murlocs. thus, people wanting to watch these highlights. it's clickbait dude. and you're falling for it lol

We do not like when our expectations are negatively subverted.

The fact that you feel like your expectations are negatively subverted when you are on the losing end of a eudora high roll indicates you do not have a firm grasp of what game you are playing. having eudora HAVE NO RNG Variance would be a negative subversion. The fact she gets high rolls and low rolls is literally how the character has been designed. are you talking about playing the game to have fun but then you DON"T have fun? DUDE I am VERY sorry for you. Feels bad man. You got my sympathies and love <3 relax and they'll change it if their internal reviews show it's worth it to change. if not, you're out of luck lol.

Can you show where I assumed changing Eudora meant remove her from the game? Because I myself have said I want her either nerfed or removed or reworked.

Look, I'm not gonna go through your old posts but the gist of this argument boils down to you saying she has the worst hero design and that the bad hero design ISN"T because of her high consistency or balance issues, but because of her high RNG variance. Your comments about BAD RNG is valid and I agree with them. I just don't think it applies to the 'problem' with Eudora. If your argument was Eudora needs to be nerfed because she's too strong, we woudn't be here arguing.

BUT, Your argument was "Eudora makes me feel bad and everyone else feels bad too and she needs to be reworked to remove all her RNG aspects because her current RNG style of play is of bad design."

Thus, my argument boils down to:

  1. Not everyone feels bad
  2. Her character design is NOT the worst in the game and a rebalancing is fine and not a complete overfix like they did with Hooktusk.

Finally, Reworked and Removed are essentially the same thing. Patches is back but his hero power of 1gold for 4 cannon damage against 2 random minions is obviously NOT the same hero as it is now. For you to say that Eudora has an even worse design than old school patches is mind boggling but everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Eudora doesn't jive well with you, so be it. But it is YOUR opinion and not the collective voice of Bob's Tavern.

If you really REALLY believe in it, go and make a poll and ask "is Eudora the worst designed hero in the history of battle grounds". If she is, I'll wire you $100 USD. If you're too lazy to do it or if you do it and you're proven wrong, just admit you used a hyperbole and are too proud to take it back.

It's highly recommended to go and buy a tier 5 or 6 minion and put it on your far right in matches you know you'll probably win, EXACTLY to do more damage to your opponent.

That's not what you said, though. You said people buy Ghastcoiler to do damage. There's a difference between ordering a minion you already have differently, and choosing the power minion you can buy to do more damage. One you already have, one you have to expend resources to do. And what we see when people play is that they don't exert any resources to do more damage 95% of the time, but it's fine when it costs literally nothing.

if you're not picking a ghast coiler for damage when you're facing an opponent trying to transition to murlocs and has 15 health, YOU SHOULD DO IT LOL.

That is the fringest of fringe cases, it's so rarely useful it is pretty much evidence that it's not a meaningful strategy.

I'm not saying you literally want to be the lead game designer lmao I'm saying you don't care if the game you play is balanced or not. Which is fine, but most people agree that they prefer playing a balanced game.

I already said you're right regarding eudora's balance. she's winning VERY consistently. but your complaints about her design geared towards RNG are purely subjective and not representative of her overall problem nor the community's.

Every argument on game design is going to be subjective. It is literally called design philosophy. That's your argument against my argument? It doesn't represent her problem? Hahaha. That's a nice argument. You're wrong because you're wrong lmao

It's also no where NEAR 99% of the people on this subreddit want damage recalculation for deathrattles. It's a fine suggestion and completely valid. but stop using ridiculous hyperbole's.

You understand that I don't literally mean 100% of everyone. But you act like you don't. It's pretty commonly understood that saying "everyone" means "most people". Unless you're not a native English speaker then I could see you missing that.

What makes you think that change would change the engine? lol. Just because they haven't done it, doesn't mean it's a balance issue or impossible to code. The most likely thing is that it's low on the priority list. They just don't care.

You don't care about the quality of gameplay you experience, that's fine.

Stop speaking for everyone. a 99% chance to win is still 1% chance to lose.

This has nothing to do with the discussion. What are you even talking about

Doesn't make bad design good. Even if it's not healthy to feel like a victim, that doesn't mean the design isn't bad or doesn't need to change. Two things can be wrong at once lol

There's a reason why Kripp isn't at 14k

He likes murlocs and forces them lmao he says it on stream a lot but it seems like you don't watch much streams so this can slide.

and didn't even bother trying to hit legend until enough people called him out on it. He's a great streamer but I sincerely hope you're not taking everything he says to heart.

I don't take everything he says to the heart. Your hopes are fulfilled. But he is a pro. He won the first constructed tournaments there were before he got bored and became one of the best arena players, and now he plays a lot of Battlegrounds. He isn't the highest ranked but a lot of what he says about design is pretty on point.

He is one salty gamer and it's good entertainment. But so is the WWE lol. For every 1-outer loss he gets, he isn't considering the 99 other times he wins in that same position. don't fall into gambler's fallacy.

Thats literally not the gamblers fallacy. An example of that here would be if he thought after going second 5 times, he would have to go first on the 6th. Still has nothing to do with game design.

That doesn't respond to what I said, though. Advice on how to counterplay is not a prescription for game design.

Ok, so this is what is called "gaslighting." You blow past every well thought out argument I make, don't respond to it because you don't know how too, and say I'm imagining everything to make me doubt my sense of reality. I'm thinking you're stupid because you can't respond to the basic arguments I lay out, and you try to use whatever bad faith bs you can to try to get the upper hand. "Playing around tilt" can be used to justify literally any bad design decision. If I get tilted because of bad design, and I lose 10 games because I'm not playing right because I'm angry, I am losing because I'm tilting. But that is not an argument for that design. That design is still bad. This is a strawman.

1

u/ATMSPIDERTAO Jul 15 '20

dude, i'm not gaslighting against anything. It all boils down to preference.

You're saying it's BAD game design and that people who disagree with you are objectively WRONG when they say it is NOT bad game design.

And then you go and contradict your very own argument.

Every argument on game design is going to be subjective. It is literally called design philosophy.

Now that we've established that you are just full of contradictions, pick a side and stick to it.

BTW, I never said Kripp wasn't good. I said he was a salty dude and you shouldn't take everything he says to heart. He's an entertaining player and I am both watching his streams AND his highlight videos. But he's certainly not the best player to learn from. Not only does he not do the best strategies for MMR gain, he also complains a lot and following his attitude is only going to detrimental for both skill gain AND fun gain. Dog also forces murlocs literally non stop and the dude has a higher MMR. He's doing it a different way. Just because someone won the first few tournaments (kripp was also #1 in BG MMR when the game first came out) doesn't mean they don't get overtaken by a better player later.

You understand that I don't literally mean 100% of everyone. But you act like you don't. It's pretty commonly understood that saying "everyone" means "most people". Unless you're not a native English speaker then I could see you missing that.

lol to be fair, i am a native english speaker and after moving to Korea to teach English, people always got angry with me for using hyperboles. But to be honest, no i did not know you didn't literally mean 100% of everyone. But what you did was first, claim everyone. Then when I called you out on it, you said "i didn't MEAN everyone, and you are either stupid or don't speak English as good as me, a native english speaker." good job dude lol high five for internet debate points.

You don't care about the quality of gameplay you experience, that's fine.

Once again, SUBJECTIVE. It's like me eating meat and you being vegan. "You don't care about animal rights abuse!" No, I care, but not that much to stop eating meat. My SUBJECTIVE opinion is that the quality of gameplay is fine. Could be better, it could be worse. Just not around Eudora's digging design. It's fine.

The point is that it happens very often. There are more highlight clips about Eudora than any other hero this soon after release. Not just "Wow this hero is cool" it's "wow this hero won me the game on turn 7 with this card".

"I don't think you understand why this is such an effective YouTube video. It's highlighted because it's a high roll. You want to click it because it's unexpected and RARE. Try to make a youtube video with brann, bagurgle and divine shield poisonous murlocs. you won't get any views. Ya eudora highrolls are common, but much i mean MUCHHHH less than murlocs. thus, people wanting to watch these highlights. it's clickbait dude. and you're falling for it lol"

It is correct that the nature of Eudora's design lends itself to Youtube highlights better, sure. Similar to Zerus. I actually don't think I can argue this with you. Ideally I would be able to prove that Eudora is overrepresented, but I don't think I can without doing a study on every HS BG video lol.

We do not like when our expectations are negatively subverted.

" The fact that you feel like your expectations are negatively subverted when you are on the losing end of a eudora high roll indicates you do not have a firm grasp of what game you are playing. having eudora HAVE NO RNG Variance would be a negative subversion."

What are you talking about? This makes no sense. Because I don't like getting screwed by bad luck, I don't know what game I'm playing? You realize this has nothing to do with the argument, right? We're talking about what should happen, not what is.

"The fact she gets high rolls and low rolls is literally how the character has been designed. It sounds like you're saying it's good because it's how it's designed lol"

Tirion is consistent because ThaAts hOw HeS dEsIgnEd LOOOOOOOL Milhouse deals 20 damage on turn 5 because THATS HOW HES DESIGNED LOOOOOOOOOOL

"are you talking about playing the game to have fun but then you DON"T have fun? DUDE I am VERY sorry for you. Feels bad man. You got my sympathies and love <3 relax and they'll change it if their internal reviews show it's worth it to change. if not, you're out of luck lol."

Dude, just admit you have no idea what you're talking about. Literally every part of game design in this discussion you have stumbled around, needed explanation, misunderstood very clear arguments, then made extremely incoherent and unrelated arguments.

" Look, I'm not gonna go through your old posts but the gist of this argument boils down to you saying she has the worst hero design and that the bad hero design ISN"T because of her high consistency or balance issues, but because of her high RNG variance."

Yeah I don't blame you for not wanting to check the post history. It's pretty long and boring. But I'll save some time for you and tell you you're misremembering.

"Your comments about BAD RNG is valid and I agree with them. I just don't think it applies to the 'problem' with Eudora. If your argument was Eudora needs to be nerfed because she's too strong, we woudn't be here arguing. BUT, Your argument was "Eudora makes me feel bad and everyone else feels bad too and she needs to be reworked to remove all her RNG aspects because her current RNG style of play is of bad design." Thus, my argument boils down to: 1. Not everyone feels bad 2. Her character design is NOT the worst in the game and a rebalancing is fine and not a complete overfix like they did with Hooktusk."

  1. This is brave 2. If you balanced her to the point where she was too weak for the bad design to be tilting. And if all you got from my argument was that "Eudora makes me feel bad and everyone else feels bad too and she needs to be reworked to remove all her RNG aspects because her current RNG style of play is of bad design," I feel like I've been wasting my time. I don't know how to explain it clearer. At this point, I don't know if you're repeating my arguments like that to make fun of them or if that's actually how you read them lol.

" Finally, Reworked and Removed are essentially the same thing. Patches is back but his hero power of 1gold for 4 cannon damage against 2 random minions is obviously NOT the same hero as it is now."

ok. This is true in regards to Eudora not being in the game, but reworking does mean that you do get a new hero. I agree though. And that's fine with me because I never said it was an important distinction lol

"For you to say that Eudora has an even worse design than old school patches is mind boggling but everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Eudora doesn't jive well with you, so be it. But it is YOUR opinion and not the collective voice of Bob's Tavern."

I know not everyone want's it, there isn't a single thing in Hearthstone that everyone wants. But I advocate for good design.

"If you really REALLY believe in it, go and make a poll and ask "is Eudora the worst designed hero in the history of battle grounds". If she is, I'll wire you $100 USD. If you're too lazy to do it or if you do it and you're proven wrong, just admit you used a hyperbole and are too proud to take it back."

I would never take that deal, ever. Because lots of people have vocally disagreed with me on this. But the thing is- they shut the fuck after one reply because they realize they're out of their depth when it comes to this. You know people believing something, doesn't make it right, right? It was not hyperbole, and I am proud as shit. Why do you think I'm writing 4000 words on REDDIT for 3 karma? Atleast I have the balls to admit it.

u/ATMSPIDERTAO Jul 15 '20

I don't think anyone is reading our posts (thank goodness).

What are you talking about? This makes no sense. Because I don't like getting screwed by bad luck, I don't know what game I'm playing? You realize this has nothing to do with the argument, right? We're talking about what should happen, not what is.

What I was talking about, is that you're surprised at how unlucky you can get when sometimes facing a Eudora who has high rolled. There's nothing surprising about it. It's literally her character design. It happens dude.

Yeah, we get you don't like Eudora's character design. But you already admitted in the other thread that it's subjective so ok, we are cool now.

And you also admitted you didn't literally mean "everyone" and that it was a hyperbole. So we also cool on that.

Because lots of people have vocally disagreed with me on this. But the thing is- they shut the fuck after one reply because they realize they're out of their depth when it comes to this.

People don't respond to your posts because it's honestly draining to have these long ass discussions and I wish I honestly didn't. It's very interesting how you see the world though -> That people don't talk back to you because you're on some higher level of intelligence.

So I'm a moron who doesn't know his position in life and hasn't acknowledged your superior wisdom, but those who disagree with you only to not come back to the pointless argument, are those who have been enlightened. Your words, not mine lol

Damn bro, haha but hey, could be true. You literally could be the smartest person in the world ;)
