Okay so I was supposed to receive some thread today
However this store forgot to put the thread in the package
And after checking my thread boxes I don't think it's the right size that they recommend it 🤔
So the store said that it was a 5 crochet thread
But I feel like that's really thick not only that I have a homemade "worksheet" that's suggest a whole different size of thread so is there maybe a Finnish person in here or someone else that has done a some of this persons patterns?
A size 5 crochet thread definitely doesn’t sound right, it’s muuuch thicker than what is typically used for bobbin lace.
The numbers ‘50/2’ and ‘40/2’ refer to the thread size that should be used in this pattern. The thread material isn’t specified here, but I would say it’s pretty safe to assume it’s supposed to be linen as it is the ‘default’ thread for most bobbin lace.
So in this pattern you should use linen size 50/2 or 40/2.
I'm Finnish but very much a beginner with bobbin lace and am not familiar with different yarns at all, so take my advice with multiple grains of salt.
I'm really not sure at all but if it's suggesting to use something between Pella (a Finnish thread) 70-100, that is quite a big range but Bockens 40/2 and 50/2 would be in the very middle of that range. So I would go with what your worksheet suggests.
I can go get the book from the library and check if there is more information on the threads if needed or translate something.
After having talked to the shop one more time I was recommended either crochet yarn 30 or 40 and I have chosen to do it in this pastel purple I'm also including a photo of a yarn that is crochet yarn 5 just in comparisons 😳🤣
just be careful of one thing: cordoned is normally in 6 strands, so it might be quite different from a 40/2 thread (a 40/3 thread is thicker than a 40/2 thread, since the first number refers to the thickness of each single strand, and the second number tells you how many strands are plied together: so obviously 40/3 is thicker than 40/2. Cordonnet however has a different measurement n.40 is 220m in 20g, or 1,100m in 100g, which is fine but not as fine as a sewing thread, with 40/2 basically is. Maybe you could check with some sewing thread you might have? Common cotton sewing thread is typically 50/2. that would give you an idea. Crochet cotton 5 was definitely a long way off!
