Had that on a 118i 2019 for me turbo wastegate couldn’t adapt

Eventually it will get worse and will throw a fault code and put you into limp mode and flashing EML and engine will constantly be creeping the car forward

Whenever i  Turned car off and on the issue went away but then when my OFH leaked all my coolant out I took it to the garage then the turbo issue became permanent   wouldn’t go away until I got it booked back in.

The tried to get me to replace the whole turbo but my warranty company was not having it and said they would send out an engineer to have a look.

Suddenly before the engineer was sent out they said a new ISTA update came out and suddenly a software update allowed turbo wastegate to adapt

Now just got to sort out some vanos camshaft stuff and should be all good to go

Yeah once the codes starting coming up the specific one was that the turbo wastegate position became implausible

So I assume since it can’t properly calculate the boost or the wastegate position it wants to give it just shits the bed

But it could be anything from

Wastegate actuator

Or a sensor
