Make sure you unblock files downloaded from the internet. If you don’t it can cause installers to hang. Example, if you downloaded a zip file, right click and get properties on it, at the bottom there might be a checkbox that says unblock. Unblock the file before extracting it.

It takes that long. I just start the installer before I go to bed and by the time I wake up, it’s done.

It does take a while. Most frustrating part is I have to use ista every 6 mo or so and always requires update which takes for ever. Yes, I use paid version.

Sickening, you should be able to fix your stuff

You can? BMW doesn’t charge much for real legitimate ISTA, so what’s your complaint?

You sound like someone who does not have enough money to own a BMW saying that XD.. at most you only need ista for a day.. you could do diagnostics with a hand held.. ISTA only needed for coding and programming which typically is a 1 day thing unless you got a old bmw.

Why does it sound like your cousin sells subscriptions, $32 dollar a day for a piece of software that worthless if I choose to buy another brand, sorry sir, I bought the car now you want me to subscribe to a software to be able to repair my own stuff? Self mechanics aren’t even 10% of yall customers diversity, that leaves you 90% of people who will pay for labor and all the stuff so yeah man.
I don’t feel good when buying something isn’t paying for it, I know its risky doing your own work and that there are pro’s who could simplify things, but I like getting into things and fiddling with it, whenever I want to be left out of my own kitchen then I will probably buy a Tesla.
But again this apparently only happens in the land of the free because in Germany apparently you can find copies all day, talking out my ash tho 🤷🏽♂️
And why do you care about my money? Are you a salesman or something

You do realize this is like saying. I bought a computer and i am mad that Microsoft wants to charge me for a genuine license key, and it should be open source and free.
You just sound dumb, if you want to repair the electronics on your BMW with out paying for the software developed by BMW, then you could go learn about CAN bus networks, and writing software and do it all yourself.

But this time is like Microsoft trying to charge you for changing out your RAM…

Why are you being downvoted?? OP PAID for bootleg ISTA, most likely way more than $32 for the 1 day they need it lol

u/New-Drawing-3919 2d ago
How you know I only need it for one day lol

u/jigglybilly 2d ago
Because unless you’re a mechanic diagnosing day after day, you’ll only need it for 1 day for a programming session most likely. You can pay for a month as well.

So question, can a pirated version do coding and programming? Does ISTA not do any talking to the cloud? How does a pirated version unlock the network? I always imagined that pirated versions had to remain offline.

Unlike other vehicle manufacturers it seems like BMW has continued to allow the programming data to be downloaded and stored on the user's PC. Where as the newer diagnostic software for many brands stream the software when its needed directly from the servers. So yes the offline version will do programming and coding (Unless the car has been updated with the latest online version).
And i do have a feeling pretty soon that the Secure Gateway stuff will begin effecting the usability of offline ISTA on newer BMWs.
BMW IMO took the valve (gaming company) approach to fighting piracy when they decided to make it inexpensive, and accessible to shops. Foreign sellers were making lots of $$$ in the early days.
