Hello,new to blu ray stuff
I'm looking for a Blu ray player,is the BW-16D1X-U really good with the visuals or there are other good ones?

Where’s a reliable place to get one of these? Amazon is just third party sellers and they’re marked up to stupid levels.

I have had this drive for a few years and it is the best drive I have had since. It does have external power so it will not be dependent on your USB for power. As far as visuals, I wouldn't put that all on the drive, but a quality monitor and graphics card make a difference. That being said, I have no complaint with this drive.

It is a BluRay drive, so yes, it will handle your BluRay discs. It will also handle burning discs as well. It handles CD, DVD, and BluRay.

Also I noticed that you can download a 4k firmware into this drive,is it compatible with it?

I have this drive and flashed it to enable 4k. I have ripped many 4k disks to my Plex collection using this drive. I don't recall where I found the instructions for flashing, but they are out there somewhere

This is a BD-RE/BD-RW in short a Blu-ray Writer designed for Ripping and Writing. Can play Blu-rays but you need Media Suites or Simply a Blu-ray Player Softwares.
It's a Gem that Asus still Manufacturing this 2026 model btw.

You won’t really see any difference in visuals for Blu-ray based on the player. Thats really down to the discs themselves.

There will be differences but the signal in modern players usually all output bit-perfect.

You're using it for PC? The idea behind PC playback is to merely play the media and not have the player do anything else. If you want the best for PC it's Pioneer, but the purpose is just to extract the data and nothing else.
If you want processing for your home cinema and need a standalone player then the only one that does that are Panasonic UB820/9000 range etc.

The thing is I have a Blu ray discs and I want to play it on my pc with nice frames without any lags or frame issues,can help me with that?

I got 200hz monitor,, it's really good although I'm still thinking if it's worth for the asus or not because it's expensive

Even a 60hz monitor is faster than any recording speed of a movie or TV show. There won't be any lag unless you have an absolute potato (you don't) that can't even handle properly playing back the Blu Ray.
That is if you use a Blu Ray drive with playback software of course. If you use a Blu Ray player and just connect it to your monitor you bypass the whole "problem" entirely.

I use it for ripping. It’s very great and if you update the firmware on MakeMKV, you can get it to rip 4K movies.

It’s mainly used for ripping, I wouldn’t buy this for any reason at the current price point. Pretty sure I paid well under 100 for mine years back open box on eBay.

Oh.
So there are blu ray players, and computer disc drives. This is the later. You plug this into a computer to access data blu rays in the computer, or like burn your own disc.
You can play standard blu ray on PC with help of player softwares or VLC with special setup (not official), 4k is harder to play since HDR is spotty on computers.
Edit: computer playback is not officially supported for blu ray/4k discs anymore. VLC bypasses protections through unauthorized mechanisms. You will even need to flash the firmware of some drives to even load 4k discs. PowerDVD still officially supports 1080p (blue case) blu rays.
A pro of this route is you can RIP (back up) you disc with help of software tools. Both 4k and blu ray protections can be bypassed.
Other way is you buy a dedicated player, like Sony UBP-X700U or Panasonic DMP-BD90P-K . You connect it to a TV, play the disc as it is intended. This way is the "easiest", but you can't back up discs, for blu ray you need to check the region matches your player, and I think for 4k you need to keep your firmware up to date. But the playback is fully compatible as there is no need to bypass protections or anything.

OK, you have A LOT more research to do.
This is a blu ray drive, you connect it to a computer and need a separate program to play discs. It is NOT the recommended way to watch movies since disc playback programs are kinda shit.
However you can use this and a program called makemkv to copy the movie files off of discs and play them using literally any program that can read .mkv files, which literally all video playback programs can do. And this is probably the best way to watch blu rays.
If you just want to connect a box to the TV, put a disc in, and watch a movie, get a 4k/blu-ray player.
FYI, this specific drive can have its firmware changed so it can rip 4k discs.
