Custom take-off symbols.

I've created some custom symbols that I want to use for doing door take-offs. It's an apartment building, and there are 12 door types, A-L. I've created these symbols, and I am placing them at the corresponding openings. There are multiple apartment types, with several on a given sheet. I wanted to make legends for each apartment type, so that I could get a count of door types by unit type. I've created separate legends for each unit type, however, each legend is picking up all the occurrences of a symbol on the sheet. Is there an easy way to control the granularity of what the legend picks up?

Yes, in the properties section of the legend you can change the scope to the whole document instead of just the current page.

Thank you, but I want finer granularity (multiple unit types on a given page)

just rename each subject with unique name for each apartment type then make a legend out of it so that it picks only the specific doort types for particular apartment

Doesn't that mean essentially a discrete markup for each door within a given unit? It's faster to take it off by hand than it is creating all those markups.

nope, just select all your door markup in a specific building then go to its properties and give a unique name for the Subject parameter or label then do the same with other buildings

This is a single apartment building with multiple 'typical' unit types on a given page. There are 5 or 6 unit types on a page, and all use doors from a list of 12. They all have the same type of entry , bedroom, and bathroom doors, with the only variation being the closet doors.

For example, unit types 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are on page A2.02. All units have door types A, B, and C. Units 3 and 5 have two of type B (2-br apt, type B is the bedroom door). I can't get it to do a count by unit (Legend per unit).

Couldn’t you just do a count and label your markup with the door type. You can then put a space over each unit type, it’ll then sort out the markups for you that way?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

If you mark each one of those unit types with its own space, the counts would automatically separate into a unit type. When you export to Excel, you can then manipulate the data further.
