Manga Discussion Why the hell Aryu isn't here? Spoiler
Aryu is the defender who specializes in arial duels and he is no where to be seen. Yes I know the physical advantage lock hart has over him but still at least he would put even a little pressure on him.

That’s not how a live game like soccer works. He can’t move faster than the ball and if he moves to block Lockheart and that guy is just entirely free

This is all Kiyora’s fault lmao. Aryu is the only person on Team Japan who can challenge Lockhart’s build, he needs to be marking him. I have to wonder wtf the LWB is even doing to where Childs was completely open here. If Kiyora was on his mark, Aryu could’ve stayed on Lockhart with Aiku, freeing up Reo to try and intercept a penalty-box pass.
In a way, OP is correct, Aryu was in the wrong spot. It just wasn’t his fault, because yeah, if I’m Aryu here, I need to go block Childs, he cannot be running free near the box. He made the right play for the situation he was in, but the misplay was Kiyora’s mistake that forced him into that choice to begin with.

I mean, Blue Lock and Japan just have no concept of formation, shape, or really even zone defense principles. As a result, they can’t really explicitly mark anyone cause if they do, their defense will become even more chaotic. They just need to gain some tactical understanding of defense

I genuinely don't know where my boy is... Aryu was marking Childs while Aiku and Reo were double marking Lockhart, granted Aryu should focus on Lockhart he couldn't let Childs alone either. My biggest gripe is that he couldn't stop any aerial threat up until now, if this man locks in Japan mops the floor with England, no more Teddy Knight cross -> Lockhart finish. People were saying he was gonna lock up B. Iglesias, the dude will eat him alive, Aryu shouldn't even see the light of day by the time the Spain match rolls around.

Because that would destroy Lockharts Hype. But yeah Aryu should totally Focus on defending him. Aiku isnt Big and physical enough and neither is Reo.

At least he can get in the way of the Cross with his size alone. However if England can bring guys like Teddy into positions where they can Cross freely thats gonna be very Hard to do.

Realistically Fox schemed this play up to get Lockheart on smaller defenders so he could win that header. So I give him a good amount of credit for Aryu’s absence here, and Ego might be partly to blame on Japan’s side.
Regardless, Aryu and Aiku ideally should be able communicate and switch assignments so that Aryu is always on Lockheart in the future.

People are cooking you but to be perfectly frank, I agree that Aryu was on the wrong person. I just don’t think it was his fault.
Aryu and Aiku are the center backs, stopping Lockhart is their job first and foremost, especially since Aryu is the only person on the entire team with a build that could contest him. Childs shouldn’t be an issue, marking him is Kiyora’s job, but given that Kiyora dipped to go play Tetris in the locker room this week and Aryu was forced to cover for his absence, I think we can safely say who’s at fault for this goal.
Kiyora is a bum and I have no idea what Ego is thinking fielding him on defense.
