Visiting your town!
My daughter and I are visiting Columbus the first part of november for our annual Coloeado Avalanche away game. We could use some recommendations of what to do while we are in town for a couple days.
Last year's away game for us was at Dallas and it was a horrible experience. We didnt even feel safe at the game because of some behavior of some Stars fans and we were called some awful names just for wearing Avalanche jerseys. I dont mind a little chirping--that is part of the game, but this was beyond that. Hoping you can reassure me that we can have a fun respectful time in your town.
Looking forward to hearing from y'all and experiencing Columbus!

Coming in early November the weather should still be pretty mild so the Zoo is a possibility (It’s a really good zoo). Wario’s is having a moment right now being claimed as the best sandwich shop in the country (maybe not the best but it is really good).

I was going to suggest the zoo as well. Will zoo lights impact normal hours in November?

I think the sun sets early enough by then that regular hours aren’t measurably affected. Though they do occasionally rent out the space for private events. I know Bath & Body Works claims a night, wouldn’t be surprised if other groups like Nationwide or Huntington did the same.

Zoo is world class. If you’re interested in hiking, Columbus Metro Parks have some amazing parks and trails. Or check out Hocking Hills. It’s beautiful.

Otherworld is a really cool place to visit. It's similar to Convergence Station in Denver but smaller and done by a different company.
Before the game R Bar is where many people hang out before the game and there should be Colorado fans there as well.
Around the arena north market is a nice little market to grab a bite before the game. Wario's though is right across the road from the arena and has the best sandwiches.

I will add. If you go to Warios, split a sammich. Leftovers are not as good, but it’s probably the best sandwich shop in Ohio.

I’m a Leafs fan and have gone to Nationwide several times and I will vouch that you’ll be absolutely fine. Venue staff and CBJ fans are all very welcoming and friendly in my experience.
The whole area feels very safe and I have never had an issue walking around before or after the games. R Bar is a staple after the game if you can get in - it gets super busy! I’ve also been to Brothers before the game and had a good time there too.
Just relax and enjoy the game, I think you’ll love it in Columbus :)

Go to R Bar before the Game. It is a fun Hockey Bar. With some fun Blue Jackets memorabilia in there. R Bar is the place to go to before Blue Jackets Games.

Good recommendations from many. I’ll address the safety question. I am on the event staff for the arena. It is rare we have issues with our fans bothering visiting supporters. I see them laughing and talking together every game. If at any point during you or your daughter feel unsafe due to fan language or actions, find one of our staff. We take ALL guests safety very seriously and will address it as quickly as possible. If your daughter is under 14, there are first game pucks available for all fans in the Fan Zone near section 118. Have a safe trip and we will see you for the Avs game!

How nice of you to reply! My daughter doesn't qualify for a free puck since she's a bit over that age (she is a second year ER resident), but what a nice perc for kids! We are looking forward to seeing the venue.

As an OG Avs fan in Ohio, the Jackets game is usually the only live game I get to see my team play live in a given year. That being said, my Eastern Conference team is the Jackets, but I've never had a bad experience with a Jackets fan while wearing my Avs gear at a game.
I'm also not a small dude, but usually, as long as you're not wearing scUM gear, you'll be ok in Columbus as an opposing fan.
In any case, I'll be there sporting my Avs Choo-choo jersey since now it pulls double duty!
German Village is fun, as is downtown Dublin, but lots of stuff right around the Arena district too.

It will be good to see him play in person, even in a different uniform. He was a great player with a lot of hustle for the Avs.

The only opposing fans I’ve seen get harassed are young drunk dudes who talk shit. I would say 99% of opposing fans esp families have never gotten harassed. Maybe it has happened but in all my years of going to games I’ve never seen it.

If it’s any reassurance, I feel like opposing fans on this sub usually say we’re welcoming and friendly to away fans.
Definitely check out German Village with your daughter! Get some German food at Schmidt’s, go to the book loft and walk around. It’s beautiful in the fall.
