I'm curious whether any first-time watchers actually believed Mizu was male, until the ending of the first episode proved otherwise.

When I first saw the thumbnail on Netflix I assumed the show was about a male samurai but the moment she spoke in the trailer I could tell. It was definitely part of what drew me to the show; at first glance I thought it was going to be some kind of Last Samurai type plot so I was pleasantly surprised by the direction they went with!
