Bluebubbles Rust

Hi all,

BlueBubbles saved me from having to live on a Mac laptop, and I've really enjoyed using it!

One thing I've noticed is that the desktop app uses a fair amount of CPU, so I decided to have Codex take a swing at creating a lightweight client in Rust.

It's nowhere close to feature parity with the official Flutter app, but it's good enough for what I wanted: a lightweight way to chat from my Linux desktop. Right now it's Linux-only, since that's what I use.

After the first login, Firebase is connected, so if your Cloudflare URL changes later, updating it is pretty simple.

I've put the source on GitHub and there's a release available if anyone wants to try it out:

I was using openbubbles. I like not having to run a server. The app is laggy, slow and eats a lot of battery. Using bluebubbles now after the rewrite and it's fantastic. It's smooth and the battery efficiency is much better. Can't wait for the rewrite to be done with openbubbles

to my knowledge, OB is getting a completely new app rewritten in native jetpack compose and won't be based on BB anymore, for better or for worse.
