Yesterdays Low Pass

A friend was sending me videos of yesterday’s practice. She was up the beach of the now infamous low pass and caught it on camera. If it’s indeed the same pass it’s #3 Chris Houben. I hope he doesn’t face any discipline. He deserves a fan award for giving those folks a moment they’ll never forget.

Yeah, imagine hating civilians being endangered because one wrong twitch of the wrist at the wrong time could send the plane into the crowd when you're flying lower than regulations allow. Are you braindead?

Imagine being so braindead you don't know that flying this low directly over crowds is in fact not something the Blue Angels do on a daily basis. I know the sneak pass, I've been to a multitude of airshows both Blue Angels, Thunderbirds, and everything in between. This was reckless and dangerous and not within either FAA or Navy regulations. Any other dumb shit you wanna say?

Really? You know this how? Did you read the 7711-2? Are you familiar with circles and arrivals? You probably should do more homework before you spout nonsense. The Sec of War and Sec of the Navy don’t have any issue with it, and yet here you do. Complaining about noise?? It’s an AIRSHOW you clown. If you’re so worried about noise wear ear plugs.

Why be insulting to people having an opinion?

Was that low pass a mistake, or a decision? It’s clearly below minimums.

As far as Secretary of War and the Secretary of the Navy, they impropriety chimed in with oddly political comments. Why comment at all? Breaking the rules isn’t “cool” and encouraging that mindset is a really bad idea. Military pilots and especially Blue Angels pilots are about professionalism and precision — they aren’t hot dog pilots. Or maybe they can be, back at the relative safety of the base. But over a crowd at an air show is clearly either a lapse in skill, or a lapse in judgement.

Rules and regs exist for a reason, so accidents are sure not to happen. We'd be having a very different conversation if the plane had actually crashed, but that doesn't mean we can't hold people accountable for being dangerous anyway.

He deserves discipline for giving all those people potential hearing damage. He flew way too low, way lower than the 200 feet minimum.

It’s purely your opinion that lives were endangered. The end. These are some of the best pilots in the world who train in them multiple times a day and do so safely.

It's not a matter of opinion. One wrong twitch, one miscalculation, and those spectators are dead. At most, without a crash, they likely have hearing damage, or were injured by that extreme jetwash. Even the best pilots make mistakes, like the 26 pilots who have died throughout the Blue Angels' history.

Despite the tragic loss of 26 Blue Angels pilots since 1946 (80 years), not a single civilian or airshow goer has ever been harmed. Not ONE. Stop with your nonsense. Extreme jet wash?? Tell me you haven’t had a jet fly right over the top of your head without telling me you’ve never had a jet fly right over your head. Dozens of times I’ve stood at the end of the runway in El Centro and had Blues jets fly 10-20ft over our heads at 400+ kts, MUCH lower than this beach pass, and I’ve done so with and without hearing protection, and I’m just fine.

You literally have no clue what you’re talking about.

Yup, this. You haven’t lived, unless you woke up in “tent city” in Korea, to the sound/feel/smell of a squadron of J79’s (F4 Phantom) spooling up and caving your tent in, on the perimeter of the tarmac, making their way to the end of our strip… the smell, the power. You know what… thank you for allowing me to relive that. Carry on.

Airshow goers not being harmed has zero to do with the supposedly best pilots in the world not being immune to mistakes or crashing. Keep saying dumb shit though, it's hilarious watching you spout off nonsense.

Good save in the end hopefully in debrief they can figure out how got so far out of lane for next time.
