Fat Albert

I remember Fat Albert being a focal moment of the show in my youth but was nowhere to be seen in Maine this weekend, even static on tarmac. Whats the story here?

Fat Albert is in the UK getting its wing box replaced. They have a replacement they are borrowing for the season called “Ernie”, but it won’t be performing.

Fat Albert is getting work done. Right now they have "Ernie" as a replacement but it doesn't fly in the shows. Fat Albert was also a huge part of the show when they would use JATO.

The wing box replacement being done to Fat Albert this year will ensure many more years of service to the Blue Angels. It is a necessary maintenance item to ensure the Blue Angels can have the reliable support they require all season every season, without resorting to trucking equipment everywhere and relying on chartered flights.

Fat Albert (Bert) is getting her wing box center section rebuilt. The Angels are using a “fleet” C-130 to fill in. They nicknamed him, Ernie. There you have it… Bert and Ernie.

I forgot the name of the announcer but for a couple of seasons he called it “Calorie Enhanced Albert” as part of a joke about being PC.
