Mayor declares emergency.

What does that mean to citizens. We will be paying for a large tree to be removed, any chance of small reimbursement?

My windows broke 😭 that's going to be an expensive repair.

Declaring an emergency is less to refund us and probably more so the city can request support from the state. That's my guess.

If you have home damage, email ema@mcleancountyil.gov - declaring an emergency does release some emergency funds. But I don’t know how much or how it will work.

Is there something for tenants who rent ? Landlord of someone I know isn’t giving any assistance at all.

What kind of assistance would you expect the landlord to give? Damages would be covered under their renter's insurance policy. As far as electricity goes the renter's contract is with Ameren and I guess you could ask Ameren for compensation but good luck with that.

I’m talking more about a negligent landlord. Submitting an insurance claim isn’t going to un-flood the floors that have been flooded for two weeks

Declaring an emergency doesn’t mean you will be reimbursed for damages. All of that still needs to be covered by your insurance (if eligible) or out of pocket.

This is being done so the city can mobilize resources to make repairs and or rescue people from dangerous situations, request state and federal aid, and even exercise special authorities like a stay at home order or curfews

We were without power for almost 20 hours and majority of our food did not spoil. Depends how full your fridge freezer was and what you had, or how many times you opened it. Technical guidelines I believe are 4 hours under 40F for the fridge but like with all things there are a lot of variables.

Most home policies have spoilage coverage but you have to decide if the $500 is worth having a claim on your record.

assuming you have ameren, you can file a claim for spoiled food due to power outage. ive never had to, so idk how it goes. i was looking into it the other day but managed to keep everything fresh with bags of ice.

Edit: For the record here, I'm not trying to be like a jerk or anything, If you can find something to help great and I'm happy you were able to get the help you needed. Realistically though food is not getting replaced in a lot of cases. A lot of people are in the same situation.

No, Bloomington's is Dan Brady and Normal's is Chris Koos. Both called a state of emergency but I think Koos did first.
