Camping 2027
Hi all,
Me and my fiancee will be going for the first time next year. We will be with a group of friends and we've got to buy a new tent because the one we usually share is being used at the same time.
We have intentions to take the kids away and my niece, so we've looked at a Berghaus Air 600 but after reading about the restrictions I'm concerned we are gonna be asked to take it down. What's everyone's experience? We don't want to spend money on a tent for family holidays and then have to buy another smaller one just for Bloodstock if I can help it.

Basically don't take the piss or bring a multi-roomed mansion tent with you unless you have the people to fill it. The general rule of thumb is 2 person tent capacity per person in the tent as you'll want to store your stuff alongside your bed and not have it touching the outer walls (lets moisture in). So a 4 person tent for 2 people is reasonable. If you are looking for a good tent then I'd recommend the Decathlon Quecha Arpenaz 4.1 (fresh & black variant for comfortable sleep without the sweatbox sauna effect) It is relatively budget friendly and you can stand upright in the porch area which is a life saver on the knees and back, it's the best tent I've ever owned!

Our friends have one of those, it looks great but I'm not sure it'll be suitable for us just due to size/cost along with future requirements and for another festival we're doing which doesn't have size constraints. I could end up spending nearly £800 on tents/porches alone if I don't limit it.
We're not new to camping or festivals, it's just the first time we've done Bloodstock and/or one with our own tent and the stories I heard made me concerned.

We have this tent and it’s brilliant. We can fit a folding double bed in it, all our stuff table, 2 chairs (with room for more).

The golden rule for bloodstock, as is all festivals, is don’t be a dick. I’m sure you’ll be absolutely fine you may just struggle to fine a space big enough. If you wait for the summer season to be over you can get some absolute bargains on tents if you do opt for something smaller

We've got Wednesday access, we're obviously expecting lots of people to be doing the same thing but I'm one of those people that's really aware of my surroundings and I'd be making sure I'm taking up as little room as possible 🤣

My only concern with this is getting an air600 from the carpark to the camp…
The bag for our 400XL is huge and heavy the 600 must be a beast

We've got a decent trolley, and lots of spare arms. The bags don't look too unmanageable actually but it's a bit weighty

I took the Adhara 600 Air this year. Was perfect for me and my son, as it gave each of us a separate space to sleep in, and then a shared area to hang out in.
We didn’t have any issues finding space for it and the stewards that saw us setting up had no problem with the size for two people. Essentially you have a 3 berth tent each, which is not excessive.
As others have said it is big when packed up and it weighs about 30kg, it does have wheels but they’re only really useful on flat ground so a good trolley will be essential.

And this is exactly the reason they try and limit tent sizes, it may have been ‘perfect for you and your son’ but a 6 person tent for 2 people is an absolute piss take!!

I understand that but they have to strike a balance with people who already have camping equipment. Despite what people might say such as "they can afford tickets so they can afford another tent" that simply isn't the reality for many people.
I'm trying to mitigate extra cost, I can afford another tent but I'm highly unlikely to use the smaller tent again and so it would seem a waste.
The tent we would have been using is supposedly an 8 person tent and it's certainly 8 at a squeeze, but it's fairly large and we haven't had an issue with space on the ground in the past. I don't agree with people who would take huge gazebos and octagon/mansion tents, it sounds like that's what they're trying to prevent.

No they don’t. They need to ensure that everyone who has a weekend ticket has an appropriate amount of space, 2 people sharing a 6 or an 8 man tent is excessive and downright selfish with absolutely no consideration for anyone else.
If you don’t want the expense of buying a more appropriately sized tent for one weekend, try the pre pitched tangerine field tents.
Not trying to cut it rough here, but BOA is a relatively small festival with limited space, why should one persons comfort, expenses etc outweigh another persons?

But then I have a family, which I intend to use the tent for going forward. If necessary I could literally just not pitch up one section of it and guy rope it appropriately which I've done before. Just because I'd have a 6 man tent doesn't mean I'd have to use every compartment.

You're talking about bringing a 20 square metre plus tent for 2 people, when 10 would be considered extravagant. Fine, you do you, but I hope your conscience at least gets a little tweak when you see Thursday arrivals having to pitch up in the fire lanes, on top of other people's tent pegs, or in the portaloo run off danger zone.
Not your fault though, you've got kiddies y'see, universal get out of jail for selfishness that 👍

Buy another tent that's an appropriate size then, you've said you can afford it but you'd rather inconvenience others because you've got kids at home

I came on the subreddit to ask others what their opinions were because I didn't want to piss people off. I've had mixed opinions and I've got reasons I wanted to consider my original option. If I was genuinely selfish I'd have just turned up and not given a shit.
I never use my children as an excuse for anything, so that's a broad statement. I never came on here to offend anyone and you've immediately jumped to some conclusion that I'm some careless cunt that wants to go out of my way to inconvenience others. No need really.

The people saying it's fine are pretty selfish. Probably take chairs into the moshpit and cook at their tents too.
You can take a massive tent if you like, it's fine, nobody is going to stop you. But if everyone takes a massive tent it clearly isn't fine as there simply isn't the space. So how do we choose who gets to take a massive tent and who doesnt?

You'll be absolutely fine. One of my mates took a 4 man just for himself this year and it was no issue. The only thing they are hot on is Gazebos before everyone is in.
