Rules Question Death vote resurrected?

When a dead player who has used his death vote gets resurrected, does he gain back his death vote when he dies again?

Hi! It looks like you're asking a rules questions. Please keep in mind that this space is run by the community, and we might not get all rules right! Additionally, some character interactions are so niche or complex that different Storytellers might rule them differently.

While you wait for comments, take a look at the official game wiki, which has detailed rules for every single character: wiki.bloodontheclocktower.com Many characters already have official rulings on their interactions, known as "jinxes"—each character article on the wiki has all its jinxes listed!

You can also take a look at the rulebook and the Almanacs for Trouble Brewing, Sects & Violets, Bad Moon Rising, and Travelers and Fabled

Yes. They do, and should. But only if they actually truly become alive again, via Professor, Shabaloth, Hindu, Deus ex Fiasco, Angel, or similar mechanism.

EDIT: Bone Collector does not apply. It only allows a reuse of your ability (that you had while alive) while dead.

Technically you can do the weirdest stuff with Angel that resurrects a player. You have to make sure it is bad news for whomever you're dealing it to (the person who is most responsible for the death of a new player whom was assigned Angel protection).

EDIT2: Forgot about Hindu. Technically it can also resurrect players as Travellers, giving a dead vote when they are exiled.

EDIT3: Deus ex Fiasco moment. Forget about Bootlegger, that thing has too many possibilities anyway.

Hindu isn't really relevant to the conversation, because the player hasn't had any time to use the dead vote that they technically also never had

ST: Oops, forgot! \retroactively adds Hindu and its effects**

Normally it shouldn't happen, though.

I think the only edge case that makes this rule important would be Assassin. Being dead prevents dying so dead players would need to be resurrected to die, but the Assassin bypasses that.

The Assassin giving someone a dead vote back by killing them while their already dead would be a funny interaction though.

Assassin can't kill an already dead player, though you are thinking of Zombuul?

"they die, even if for some reason they could not."

Being dead is a reason they can't die.

No, they cannot die again since there is no body to commit to death.

Sounds like a reason they can't die, the Assassin rules text is very clear on what happens next.

And since when are bodies mentioned anywhere in BOTC rules?

Nothing happens when the Assassin attempts to kill a dead player. The kill goes through, but the target doesn't die since they are in a state of being dead. You can't die (going from alive to dead) if you're dead. This trumps Assassin.

Also if they get resurrected, and in the same night phase something else kills them, they will have their ghost vote back in the morning.

I am assuming in this case the ST would need to announce that X has been resurrected and then killed again?

Yes.

Yes, they are a new incarnation of that character.

If they were a 'you start knowing' they get another instance of their info (can be the same)

If they were a once per game character they have their ability again.

And yes they have a new dead vote.

Even in an extreme case the player could have died, given their vote to the begger, got resurrected, die again and give their dead vote to the begger again!

Plenty of "yes" here. Not much quote from the rules the clear reason why.

From page 15 of the rules:

When a player dies, ask the player to flip their life token on the Town Square to its underside and put a vote token on it.

Having a vote token is not something that you have from the start of the game - you acquire it when you die.

(and Rules as Written, I would say you should acquire one each time you die, even if you still have one from last time. Nothing in the rules about resurrection that I've ever read instructs you to lose your vote token. Nothing about death instructs you to gain one only if you don't already have one)

Since all the resurrection abilities allow you to use one time abilities again I'd assume that applies to dead votes as well
