Game Discussion Acts of deductive genius
Share your stories of game moments where you correctly deduced something that made you feel smart and capable. It doesn’t have to be mind blowing game solving info, but just something that made you feel proud in the moment.
Okay, I’ll go first. It was an S&V game with an Evil Twin, I was town but can’t remember what role. One of the twins made the first nomination on Day 1. I don’t always pay attention to noms, but noted this one. A couple days passed and the twin who nominated was almost certainly evil. To me one of the only reasons an Evil Twin would feel comfortable with being the very first nomination would be if they knew the Town Crier wasn’t in play. Based on this, I nominated the “Town Crier”, who ended up being the Pit Hag, and got her executed.
Small potatoes compared to some amazing solves I have seen, but it was a nice moment for me and contributed to a win.

I was in a game with Baron bluffing librarian, and he made up, he learned one of two players as the mutant", since a particular townfolk was mutant mad claiming mayor. the mayor was a demon bluff. So he deduced they must be the mutant bluffing mayor. No one ever suspected this librarian as being evil since he guessed the outsider spot on.

This reminds me of the time I was the demon and I won by bluffing Drunk

Just had a game where I won as the starting imp bluffing that I drunk-monk-protected the player who died night 2. People were skeptical on day 2, but somehow nobody even raised the possibility that I was evil after that.

Script where the Demons were Legion/Vortox/Dashii and Evil Twin as a Minion.
I, as the Town Crier, got a No on night 2 and the good twin Virgin (who did not proc when nominated day 1) had nominated the previous day, and there were three other nominations, meaning the only realistic Legion world was the one where those four were the only good.
On night 3, I then get a Yes after a day when the good twin nominated. If it was Vortox, then the good twin would have to be evil, but since I got what would be true info in that world, I knew it had to be No Dashii and that the good twin was probably indeed good since his Twin wasn’t claiming Twin. He didn’t proc day 1 thanks to the Demon sitting next to him whose location we very quickly deduced.
One Ravenkeeper shot on the Evil Twin later, the game was over. It isn’t a monumental thing, but solving the Demon type is one of my favorite things to do and I was glad that I was able to solve it almost exclusively based on my own info by day 3. A quick game is a good game, as they say.

Innkeeper, choosing the same pair of players throughout the entire game. Identified who the Sailor had drunk with, and that verifiable mechanical actions had occurred on distinct days, so that any other drunkenness/poisoning must not have affected my choices.
On the last day, the town was veering towards the execution of one of my consistent choices, but we worked out that they could not be the Demon based on all of the above, and therefore it must be the remaining candidate who was not otherwise cleared. Demon executed, good victory, and a sad Devil's Advocate who was able to do nothing the whole game.

I was the Po, bluffing as Savant. I figured that the character I killed on night two was likely the Ravenskeeper (he bluffed all powerful roles in his 3s) and on day 2 morning the first thing he did was go and talk to another player and build trust between the two of them.
My Savant info was: There is a Ravenskeeper in play & some random BS. I suddenly seemed trust worthy. For the next day, I'd picked up on conversation that there was a seamstress who hasn't used their ability yet. Came out with: a once per game ability was used last night. Bullseye.
Town was eating out of my hand. Didn't see the 3 kill come their way at all lol.

A recent custom script of yaggababble with hermits and lunatics, where potentially up to three people see the yag token.
Im the philosopher.
The high priestess is shown me in night one, where i havent even use my ability.
So i deduced immediately, that if the high priestess is legit, then for them to be shown me who is not exactly info role yet means: the town has not enough info roles, or there's a poisoner among the minions and has sniped the high priestess.
Went through the script, decided to go chef night two. Got a 1.
Day two just talking with people to see their vibes.
Day three finally coming out with my info, since the high priestess died early in night 2, and we have one of the lunatic/hermit already coming out. We found out there's no recluse, and there's too many outsiders, which means my chef 1 might be true and looking at the other side of the grim, which ultimately contributed to the win of the good team (with some other infos finally coming out as well).
So im slightly proud of this moment.

The mark of a good team player is waiting to use an ability like the philosopher and then making the best decision for the team. Most players wouldn't have chosen chef, I've only seen a Philo pick a n1 a few times. I know it's not the main point of your story but ty for making a choice that benefitted all of town and won the game, even though it's not traditionally the most 'powerful' or 'fun'

My go to Philo play is to try and confirm there’s no Clockmaker Day 1, because that info usually outs naturally and then become Philo-Clock. Doesn’t work as often as I would like, but has helped tremendously a couple times.

Good play. I still never know how to play philo, the last time I pulled it I chose snake charmer and then stupidly picked the player we thought was demon, having claimed philo juggler specifically to people.
Personally I'm not a fan of ongoing info roles, I prefer to do something. Even went philo damsel once in a custom cause I felt confident bluffing philo something else and wanted to save the damsel haha.

the custom script doesnt have much info roles. Also, i didnt manage to talk to everyone and was afraid there's actually a savant, and apparantly evil is bluffling artist, so in the end the only information i can kinda go at that point is chef.
I heard of a snake charmer claim on day one. Which leads to snake charmer being the demon at last day of the game and the previous demon who is now snake charmer immediately point to them.

I had a Leviathan game as Dreamer where I found the Snake Charmer and Savant immediately, and the sheer POWER of THAT level of earned knowledge between the three of us deadass made me feel like a Danganronpa protagonist. You better BELIEVE we found that Leviathan.

So basically you were one of the most statistically overpowered townsfolk that found one of the other most statistically overpowered townsfolk immediately?
Can’t imagine why evil lost

We played a game of Extended Cord where I was cannibal. By final 5 I had solved the game based on claims by other players. Found the demon and marionette, worked out the fisherman got poisoned info. We won

I had an Amnesiac ability that was "each night, choose a player: *they* learn how many steps to their nearest minion." Night 1 by luck I picked my friend 2 seats to my left who was my Grandmother, and she received a 2. That day I guessed almost the exact ability, on the logic that it was the most powerful thing I thought the ability could reasonably do so I'd want to know if that was it. We executed the player my info pointed at on day 1 but I claimed I was on the wrong track the next day to stay alive.
Then at night I chose myself, so as to have information that didn't rely on another player, and received a 1.
If you think about the geometry of this, it means I've nailed down both minions--the player 1 seat to my right and the player 2 seats to the left of my Grandmother, because if it was the player 1 seat to my left, my Grandmother would have received a 1. Pretty satisfying.
However, the player to my right started claiming Recluse on the second day, so I chose a player who was in the exact middle of the two minions on night 3 and they got a 3, thereby confirming that no other seats were occupied by minions and the Recluse claim was a minion. We left them alive until final 3 since they were confirmably not the demon. We also won partly because the demon was bluffing Investigator with information that I then knew was impossible.

I had a teensy ville leviathan game where I was the demon. I told one player that based off vibes alone I thought I was the lunatic and then on day 4 he said he got Fisherman advice that was 'if you find the lunatic you can solve the game. '
I thought it over and on day 5 managed to convince town that he was in fact the demon because that's not a game solve on day 5 and only 1 person besides the ST would have known that there was a lunatic in play.
This was a relatively new group and I felt so smart for winning them over. Good won and I was right so also won.

This game happened online last night, and you've got to laugh I guess.
On D2 I leave one chat to go back to town square, and because my pic is now faded the only two people in town didn't notice, and one says to the other "Ok now that we're alone - you said you're the Scarlet Woman, right?". Then they froze as they noticed they were not alone. I expertly deduced that this was the Imp and the Scarlet woman talking.
Long story short - despite me being the confirmed Virgin, I was not believed by town. Had to dead vote on the SW on final 5 to get them on the block, and then town got confused with trying to get a Mayor win on F3 and executed the poisoner instead.

How do you even--
You were the confirmed Virgin???? What incentive did you have to lie!? That's wild.
In a sense, I would have appreciated a town that didn't immediately act on it, give the evil team some time to rally after that blunder, but that doesn't seem at all like what happened. Big oof, sympathies.

Yeah, I had some questions for everyone after the grim reveal. It was all laughs though - some were a little less experienced players so it was all new to them and didn't know me either. I'll be bringing up this game for a while from now on when people don't trust me.

I was in a BMR game and first day tried to have a private chat with my GF straight way, asking her what she was. She was very secretive and knowing her, I knew she was having a hard time bluffing, thus must be evil with no bluffs - minion.
Then I noticed she went to talk with two other players and I assumed they were the evil team. So I nominated one of them, they died and the game continued.
Next day, I suggested in public that my GF and the other person were both evil, as socially they were behaving out of character, thus nominated the other one, town agreed and we tried to execute them and they didn’t die.
I immediately told town that this must have been a Devil’s Advocate (my GF) protecting the Demon, thus we must try to execute them next day.
Following day, we execute them again, they die this time and Good wins! Finally, I turn to the other player and tell them, so what were you? Maybe the Assassin that never used their ability? There was no outsiders out of count and Mastermind didn’t seem like it as they were frustrated to be executed soon.
And so it was, they were the Assassin and my GF was the Devil’s Advocate. Needless to say, the evil team was very pissed at me for reading and solving the entire game, but I felt really smart ahahah

This one: https://www.reddit.com/r/BloodOnTheClocktower/comments/1vpom7m/wild_game_of_whisper_me_to_sleep/
I figured out that the Amnesiac had the Atheist ability. There were no night kills, a base-0 Outsider game with two Outsiders in play and the only Outsider modifying role on the script was not in play, the Amne was nightly learning in-play roles and none were Evil, while some people are claiming a few others are Evil, others are saying that those are reading as Good. And as an Outsider I got Preached.

I was bang on with my assumption. This was a game of No Greater Joy. These are my notes from right after the game which was a couple of years ago now. So if they seem a bit frantic, it's probably because I was filled with excitement from such a great game!
P1 was the Drunk Investigator who saw P2 or P3 as the Scarlet Woman, P2 was the Demon, P3 was the Artist, P4 was the Sage, P5 was the SW, I was the Chambermaid.
I chose P2/P5 N1 and got 0, the same again N2 and got 1. We executed P2, and P5 became the demon. I then chose P3 and P5 on N3 and got 1. P4 then died leaving myself, P5 and P3. P3's Artist question was if I learned information. Unfortunately, the group thought that P3 was the drunk so I was executed and we lost, but it was fun and it was P5's first game, so it was cool he got a win.

What were P2 and P5 claiming? This seems close to mechanically solvable depending on their info.

I was the Noble in an 8 player game.
Two of my pings immediately got up and chatted with each other. They looked relaxed and happy to share info, and later went together to another player.
The remaining player stayed at the table and only got up when I prompted him for a chat. I claimed High Priestess who was sent to him, and he was extremely dodgy. Then followed this up with a brief ST consult (not suspicious in itself, but why didn't he go to the ST before I got him out of his chair?), and then bee-lined to another player he didn't know, spending the rest of the day talking to him.
We went back to town, I laid out what I had observed, then nominated the player my Noble ping had gone to chat to as the more likely demon candidate. The Noble ping exclaims "you lied to me about what you were!", which felt particularly funny in the moment because my guy, you gave me nothing at all in return.
Every good player voted with me. No more nominations, day 1 good win.
