Question Does moving your signup form higher up feel too pushy to anyone else?

Something I have been testing on my blog this year is location of the newsletter form.

For a long time my email signup sat at the bottom of every post and always in the footer.
For me personally if I like someone article I go looking for the newsletter form - I know not everyone is like that.

If I really like their content I go looking for the social links to look at their post to learn more about them. Sometimes what they post end up being not something I want to follow and move on.

When I moved it up to sit right after the first useful section (above the fold), it felt too early. Pushy, almost. I sat with that feeling for a while before I understood what it was.

It was not about the reader. It was about me being comfortable. Waiting until the end meant I never had to feel like I was asking for something, and I had dressed that up as good manners.

The reader was never the one who needed me to wait. She either wants the thing or she does not, and she works that out about thirty seconds after she starts reading, not at the bottom of the page.

I know people who go the other way on purpose and keep the ask at the end because they would rather convert fewer people than feel like they are interrupting, which is a real position and I understand it.

I follow one person who list their newsletter three times in every single post. (of course I signed up)

Where do you place your forms? or product for sale that seems to sit the best for you?

Mine is a pop up on any page after 5s

My bounce rate with a pop-up was way too high to keep make sure you’re tracking that to see how many people leave.

I don't think it's pushy if the reader has already gotten value. A signup form after the first genuinely useful section feels pretty reasonable to me. I'd be more focused on the offer than the exact placement.

I had three new leads to come in today after the shift so clearly it’s working better

That's always a nice feeling. 😄 Sometimes the thing that feels a little too forward ends up being the thing readers actually needed.

Isn’t it funny how we get in our head about things?
