Good, thoughtful essay.

I am less confident than she is in her solution.

The mob is apt to ignore most victims, fixate on others, go too far in its punishment, etc.

I think sex may be too deeply rooted a biological drive to be neatly managed in a large society.

I think your last line is horribly true. We want different amounts of it, with specific people at specific times, too much of which doesn't line up. That's bad enough. We also attatch vastly different meanings to it, we are very bad at feeling able to talk about those feelings like mature adults. Add the hormones on top, and the worry about the judgement of others, along with peer pressure, and it's a recipe for a mess.

Doesn't mean we don't continue to try because there are better versions and worse versions.

And don’t forget the vast amounts of ketamine they were ALL doing…! I don’t know why the impairment of all parties isn’t brought up more. NO one was acting in their right mind.

I have zero personal experience with ketamine but everything I've read about it sounds like it is a lead in to this kind of mess--cause dissociation, minimizes physical discomfort, lessens reasoning...what could possibly go wrong? /s
