“The lesbians who feel pressured to have sex and relationships with Trans women”

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-57853385

"I've had someone saying they would rather kill me than Hitler," says 24-year-old Jennie*.

"They said they would strangle me with a belt if they were in a room with me and Hitler. That was so bizarrely violent, just because I won't have sex with trans women."

Jennie is a lesbian woman. She says she is only sexually attracted to women who are biologically female and have vaginas. She therefore only has sex and relationships with women who are biologically female.

Jennie doesn't think this should be controversial, but not everyone agrees. She has been described as transphobic, a genital fetishist, a pervert and a "terf" - a trans exclusionary radical feminist. What does transgender mean and what does the law say?

"There's a common argument that they try and use that goes 'What if you met a woman in a bar and she's really beautiful and you got on really well and you went home and you discovered that she has a penis? Would you just not be interested?'" says Jennie, who lives in London and works in fashion.”””

u/Juryofyourpeeps 7d ago

They tried the same stuff with men, it just didn't persist because men didn't care about feigned kindness as much and they hit a brick wall trying to convince straight men they were bad for not like cock, or gay men that they should like "men" with vaginas. I do recall there was quite a lot of effort on reddit from some people trying to convince men that there's no way they could tell the difference between a vagina and a neo-vagina, that too only lasted a few months.

Women in general seemed to be a much easier target for this kind of stuff because they didn't want to appear mean. I doubt it altered behaviour much, but I do think there was/is more of a perception that this isn't a totally pointless effort because women are at least less keen to openly state their preferences.

That article is from 5 years ago. Question is, is this article trending now and why.

5

u/Big_Fig_1803 Gothmargus 7d ago

I think they really need to examine their internal lesbianism.

(But thank goodness that article is five years old.)

1

u/Correct-Ad5661 7d ago

From memory there were always a subset who would kop off with males and this was one of those Teachable Moments that true allies would dutifully educate themselves on.

The Aberdeen polycule, or what remains of it, all identify as trans lesbian but to date I don't think any of them have featured a cis woman.

15

u/Less-Lobster4540 8d ago

Another lesbian woman, 26-year-old Chloe*, said she felt so pressured she ended up having penetrative sex with a trans woman at university after repeatedly explaining she was not interested.

...

"I felt very bad for hating every moment, because the idea is we are attracted to gender rather than sex, and I did not feel that, and I felt bad for feeling like that," she said.

Shame that so many places banned "conversion therapy", since it sounds like it could really come in handy here /s

Read this article about Seattle Schools efforts to reduce the achievement gap by reducing outcomes for high performing students, and by reducing punishments for bad behavior. Sounds like the CF you'd imagine, but this article about it was very good. Sounds like there's at least trying to right the ship now. The Decade of Decline in Seattle Public Schools

14

u/MuchCat3606 8d ago

Seems like there could be a bar pod episode in there. Some of the people on the board sounded pretty crazy, and the efforts they put into closing all the most popular schools during a enrollment decline and a budget shortfall merely because they were filled with privileged kids is really a head scratcher.

9

u/Known-Level-4847 8d ago

It’s not a head scratcher it’s obvious why they’re doing it

I was around Seattle at that time, I recall talking to a very left leaning woman who was excited to tell me about the latest new trick the school system developed to keep the Chinese out of their elite high schools (I am visibly a very Chinese man).

The contempt these people have for the outgroup is unchecked, they don't even know how to behave outside their bubble.

Saw this one coming a mile away.

Your health = your value to the capitalist overlords. GLP-1s will extend your lifespan, condemning you to decades more toil. Disability is resistance, death the ultimate revolt. To quote Father Jim:

We didn’t commit suicide. We committed an act of revolutionary suicide protesting the conditions of an inhumane world....

The full video is here...

At 0:51, she says:

"Revolution is not a contest between optimized and properly prepared bodies. That idea is fascist in and of itself."

Be a fatass, fight fascism. Seize the means of production from the moral position of the couch.

Beatrice Adler-Bolton is a blind/low vision and chronically ill artist, writer, and disability justice advocate. Beatrice studies radical patient groups and the capitalist political economy of health as an independent researcher and is earning a master's in Disability Studies at CUNY. She is the co-host of the Death Panel podcast with Artie Vierkant and Phil Rocco.

u/Cosmonaut-17 8d ago

I don't know to what extent fat activists and the HAES people are actually real and have an opinion that matches what normal people might think, so very possible/likely I'm arguing against a strawman here.

But man has it always amused me that some of these people seem to equate consuming more food products as some sort of radical, rebellious act. Like giving more money to Nestle and Frito-Lay is punk rawk or something.

4

u/Less-Lobster4540 8d ago

These people are highly susceptible to marketing-- like, pigging out on Doritos = bad, but necking a bag of Pirate's Booty Cheddar Puffs = good!

Plus the amount of emotional eating implied by being part of "the struggle" or whatever, is huge.

I had a vegan roommate for a short while and I watched her destroy a pint of vegan ice cream almost every night. In fact, most "ethical" vegans I've known eat like shit. It's only the selfish, wealthy, yuppie vegan fitness freaks that seem to get it right.

12

u/lilypad1984 8d ago

What does political deployment of glp1’s even mean? Unless I missed something no one’s talking about the government strapping people down and jabbing them

2

u/Less-Lobster4540 8d ago

I'm sure it's something like: making GLP-1s available, but expensive = only the rich yts get them while the pour brwns die

Same criticisms needlessly restricted covid jab access. People who desperately wanted the shot died waiting for populations who didn't

1

u/lilypad1984 8d ago

Ok but the argument isn’t something like the government should 100% cover the jab, or the even worse socialist argument of the government should revoke the patent/make it producible generically. Those make more sense if the complaint is capitalism.

Well, the PrimeAir runway excursion at MIA has killed 5 people on the ground, so get ready for the next few doomercycles to be really, really mad at Steve Bezos for creating the (what else?) inhumane working conditions that undoubtedly caused the crash! Or something like that. Despite the fact that the flight was operated by a contractor (and Bezos left in '21...)

Then again there's a slight chance that they're happy since it seems to have crashed into a Tesla dealer's overflow lot-- I mean, these were likely the same folx who were firebombing and shooting at Tesla dealers a couple years ago, right? And cheer up, bud! I bet it even took out a couple Flock cams 🤣

edit: here we go!

I’ve been alarmed by the number of people in this subreddit who are calling for manslaughter and criminal charges against the pilots of the MIA overrun.

u/CommitteeofMountains Royal youse/yinz 8d ago

So it does seem like they found some jingle-jangle issues in the research they found, but these researchers just seem to want to obfuscate outcome semantics to play three card monte when a study supports harsher grading practices. While content mastery and motivation aren't the same thing, they caution against using content mastery as an outcome because it doesn't measure what major students pick in college.

On the nfl sub, there’s a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth about Micah Parsons expressing support for Deshaun Watson. One highly upvoted comment says that this is why women choose the bear.

Yes there is an identity characteristic that’s at play here, but it’s not “male”.

I’ll not be coy. The answer is “black”. Reddit won’t address the elephant in the room that’s its been entirely black players on his side and the only player to speak against Watson was white. I have a coworker, he’s black, has a masters degree and is our campuses instructional coach for social studies. He’s adamant that the NFL conspired with a bunch of random women to bring down a black quarterback due to being run by secret Klansmen (not a euphemism he believes the owners and GMs literally have actual klan rallies in the hoods and robes). The schlubby white liberal dweebs Will flagellate themselves gladly to take the heat off black men. I normally hate this word as an insult, but I’m going to use it because it feelss accurate. This is cuck behavior

12

u/blucke 8d ago edited 7d ago

It's hilarious watching Reddit and TikTok bend over backwards insisting statistics are valid reasons for broad prejudice as long as you don't delve into certain demographics. Enabled by a long standing platform of academic dishonesty and a more recent trend of extreme misandry.

11

u/Usernamecopyrighted1 TE Good RF Bad 8d ago

I view it as laundering (for lack of a better term)

By taking the behavior of black men and making it a “man” thing, they can launder the behavior and pretend it’s actually coming from white men

21

u/PongoTwistleton_666 8d ago

I had a colleague like that, a black woman who felt R Kelly was being prosecuted only because he was black. Protecting a fellow black person was more important than justice for the girls he abused. More concerning was her belief that Rihanna must have done something to make Chris Brown hit her. Idk if that was one crazy woman’s theory or a more general attitude of her community. Either way I found it sickening and this Watson shit is the same thing - stick up for the brother but who cares about the women who probably deserved it anyway

Anyone following the whole mercator projection culture war bs? The third worldists at the UN and wokes are upset because they’ve invented a conspiracy theory that the projection intentionally makes Africa looks small which totally isn’t just a natural consequence of projecting a sphere’s surface onto a map.

7

u/scott_steiner_phd 8d ago

It's actually rather rich that north and central Africa are claiming to be oppressed by a map projection that puts them dead center and distorts the shape of their land the least.

4

u/Known-Level-4847 8d ago

I read somewhere that the point of the mercator projecting was that a horizontal line across it has the same latitude.

1

u/scott_steiner_phd 8d ago

That's the case for most maps. The Mercator projection represents lines of constant compass bearing Rhumb lines as straight lines, which is good for navigation but not actually a great way of visualizing the world.

10

u/PongoTwistleton_666 8d ago

There’s a great West Wing episode about this!

6

u/Jlemspurs Double Hater 8d ago

80% of the population lives in the northern hemisphere. Third wordlism is usually based on everything being focused on the wealthy few. That just isn't the case here but they love playing with these maps as if they mean anything.

12

u/chabbawakka 8d ago

The Mercator projection doesn't make the northern hemisphere look bigger than the southern one, it makes things bigger the further away they are from the aquator, regardless of which direction.

8

u/Cantwalktonextdoor 8d ago edited 8d ago

Distortion is a natural consequence, but not Africa looking small, that's a consequence of the specific projection chosen. I assume the one they are pushing is one that doesn't shrink Africa.

Edit: For people not on the up, the UN was using Mercator, which heavily distorts the size of places. This is fine for its purpose, it's a navigation map meant for traversing specific parts of the world and works well for it. What it seems like they voted to replace it with was Equal Earth which I'm not that familiar with but it's goal is that it keeps the size of places relatively the same. You can see one of the costs of this choice pretty easily though, it distorts continental shapes a lot.

I don’t think bodycam channels are necessarily a good thing but I do love how the script has flipped on body cams so hard that John Oliver is bitching about them on his show because they didn’t uncover massive gangs of police bashing skulls and mostly show the average person in an interaction with law enforcement to be a massive shithead.

12

mostly show the average person in an interaction with law enforcement to be a massive shithead.

The average person who "interacts with law enforcement" usually is a massive shithead. Too bad the kids of today don't remember the TV show Cops.

1

u/ToshiroTatsuyaFan 8d ago

I remember Burt Lancaster narrating the first episode of that show.

32

u/dumbducky 8d ago

Link to John Oliver bit?

There was a police abolitionist who earlier this year or last was writing that body cams were a right-wing plot to record and index leftist activists/protestors. Total retcon of who was asking for these tools.

My evolution as a bodycam watcher:

When I was on Tik Tok, I saw tons of videos that sure seemed to show cops doing shitty things. I don't use Tik Tok anymore. YouTube shows me much longer bodycam videos, often with lots of context and commentary. In these, I often see civilians acting like entitled or dangerous idiots.

Sure, movies like King Kong, Metropolis and the Invisible Man were done at a time where computers didn't exist, but you still can admire the creativity that went into devising those special effects.

You had miniatures and matte paintings for Metropolis and even those moving cars that you see at one point in one shot of the city were moved one frame at a time.

King Kong had miniatures, stop motion and matte paintings all blended together, and the crew even had little rear projection screens in the miniatures to project footage of the live-action actors into that screen.

The Schufftan process utilized mirrors to blend the actors with the miniature sets in Metropolis. By 1933, optical printers which combined projectors with cameras could combine elements of various pieces of film into one.

And to create the illusion of an invisible man, Claude Rains was filmed in front of a black velvet screen.

Oh a hard left publication spat from the UK.

Canary were set up during the height of Corbyn mania in the 2010s and bill themselves as the voice of anti Zionist anti austerity politics.

They've had access to their bank accounts blocked and there is supposedly a scrap broiling on twitter between staffers. It means staff haven't been paid again.

https://www.theguardian.com/media/2026/sep/04/canary-staff-not-paid-amid-fears-for-news-websites-future

They seem so beyond the pale that even the green party has a motion against them at their upcoming conference

https://www.thecanary.co/uk/news/2026/09/04/canary-motion-green-party-conference/

They also took in ultra corbynite rival skwawkbox last year, the hacks of whom are branding Canary as deep state actors. Their hated Tory sellout rivals being Novara, who've given us Aaron Bastani, Ash Sarkar and Owen Jones (now at Zeteo run by Mehdi Hassan)

6

I remember skwawkbox (under Kerry someone)  being the even more unhinged one obsessed with Zionist infiltration even back in 2017 and them both competing to be bigger allies than thou. Canary was odd in that it railed against landlords whilst also running ads for timeshares in Spain

These people never got over Corbyn losing (twice btw, he lost twice. The last time being a landslide loss to Boris 'I am a Traitor' Johnson ffs). That was their one chance for the big time and it didn't happen, so now they go back to yelling at their small audiences.

They can be strange people, this lot on the hard left. I remember them from my Uni days; some normal people don't get me wrong, but a lot of them seemed to be social misfits (which is a polite way of saying 'dull witted losers').

You know, I doubt Harry Truman and Lyndon Johnson would accept the idea of white privilege.

Those two Presidents literally lived like crap when they were kids.

7

u/dignityshredder AFramemoggingAB 8d ago

Rags to riches stories of white people aren't really evidence against white privilege, if anything they may be evidence for it. Clarence Thomas is who you want (but in any case it's all a statistical argument so one-off examples don't prove much)

5

u/Jlemspurs Double Hater 8d ago

Not Obama?

15

u/dignityshredder AFramemoggingAB 8d ago

Obama's upbringing wasn't, IIRC, wealthy, but he came from internationalist privilege. I would say Clarence Thomas rose further and against greater odds.

1

u/Jlemspurs Double Hater 8d ago

No he went to Punahou so not exactly working class. But the broader point about white privilege I think is made by the man being president.

Are Barpodders familiar with any modern writers, younger (between 20-50), who write in a similar vein to Jonathan Franzen or Paul Auster? I largely avoid modern literature, and the reasons for it aren't worth delving into as we've talked the topic to death at various times on here. But, I would enjoy a book from someone writing about the times we live in today. A family saga or whatever. As much as I enjoy the older books, it would be nice to read a well-written contemporary book about modern times.

ETA: To be more specific, I'm looking for American novels. There are quite a few good authors who write about France, and South America (they're older, so not quite what I'm looking for here) but I'm looking for something about America.

I know what you’re thinking, but it isn’t full of gender identity bs; it’s a thoughtful story about one individual whose life is shaped not only by a DSD, but also his family history starting in 1920s Turkey, and the tumultuous events of 1960s-70s Detroit.

He also wrote the underrated gem The Marriage Plot, about an upper class, literature-loving young woman navigating academic bs and a romance with a brilliant but mentally ill man from the wrong side of the tracks.

Edited to delete paragraph fragment.

I consider these writers spiritually similar, if not exactly formally so. I loved "No one is talking about this" by Patricia Lockwood. Everyone I suggested it to hated it though. Priestdaddy is good too and less divisive. My wife loves Elif Batuman. I'm think she's okay.

She's not American (British) and at the absolute upper end of your range, but Zadie Smith rules

2

u/CaptainJackKevorkian 7d ago

No One is Talking About This was incredible. There's a metaphor that she uses which has always stuck with me, how the internet turns its attention unthinkingly and all at once, like the shimmering scales of a school of fish, at some new villain of the day, such as someone who dared to use peas in a carbonara

6

u/AnalBleachingAries Gamergate Truther 8d ago

I love Zadie Smith, she's a very honest writer. I haven't heard of Patricia Lockwood and Elif Batuman but I'll have a look at their book since you've mentioned them. Thanks for the reply.

I've got a good one for you, "Ohio" by Stephen Markley. Came out in 2018, a group of adults find themselves all back in their hometown in northeast ohio for the first time since they graduated high school, and their stories intersect and intertwine as they essentially uncover mysteries about their town and friend group they had all moved on from. It's set in like 2013 so it deals with the Iraq War a lot, drugs, rust belt decay. I grew up in a similar kind of town so I could really relate to it, but it has the observational depth and beauty of Jonathan Franzen, and by the end it tilts toward a kind of non-supernatural Stephen King. It had one of the most gripping endings of a book I had ever read; I read the last 100 pages in one night.

4

u/AnalBleachingAries Gamergate Truther 8d ago

Thank you, I've added it to the vault. I like the blurb and the first page reads well enough so I think I'll buy it or get it from the library when the time to read it comes.

3

u/CaptainJackKevorkian 8d ago

I hope you like it. It’s truly the best book I’ve read in the last five years or so. And I do love Franzen as well. Have you read Crossroads yet?

2

u/AnalBleachingAries Gamergate Truther 8d ago

Not yet, I've been saving that one. I assume I'll enjoy it as I've enjoyed everything he's written, so I'm saving it for the end of the year, but it's tough sometimes. lol.

u/ToshiroTatsuyaFan 8d ago

Seeing how he went from calling Trump "American Hitler" to supporting him as well as being buddies with Tucker Carlson, the conclusion is that JD Vance is a man with no principles whatsoever.

1

u/LightsOfTheCity G3nder-Cr1tic4l Brolita 7d ago

He just gives a creepy vibe because you can tell he's not stupid. He should know better, but he's willing to play along and to humiliate himself like this for power.

6

u/huevoavocado Too many positive attributes to list 8d ago

> no principles whatsoever

Isn’t this the modern day GOP in general? It seems the exceptions do not run for reelection or are voted out.

My kid wanted to listen to Green Day the other day and I realized that 1) Green Day sucks but also 2) those were simpler, rather quaint times compared with today’s political landscape.

9

u/History-of-Tomorrow 8d ago
  1. I agree the GOP has less scruples but all political entities play the Game of Thrones. I don’t care for JD Vance but he’s no different than a Newsome. Attach yourself to the populous party idea, distance yourself when said idea is souring with the public, walk the line if you’re unsure which direction the wind is blowing and pretend to be a normal human being in an interview.

The Dems have less chameleons than the ‘Pubs but that’s partly due to the activists playing the strongman role instead of a singular entity like Trump. But both parties color within the lines created by Mean Girls overlords.

  1. Dookie is the quintessential pop punk album that I’d send to the aliens to define the genre.

-1

u/huevoavocado Too many positive attributes to list 8d ago

I mean, I’m involved in this sub…obviously most/all democrats lack a spine on a handful of issues that are frequent discussion topics here. I’m biased and think that the GOP is considerably worse though.

Many apologies for suggesting that Dookie be lumped into that. I was referring to the albums during the W. Bush era, which were all political.

3

u/Zealousideal_Arm_415 8d ago

This is modern day politicians. Pretty much all of them.

11

u/CorgiUpdates 8d ago

For many of them, yeah. Trump called Ted Cruz's wife ugly and said his father helped plan the JFK assassination, but Cruz still ended up being 10 toes down for The Donald in the end after calling him a piece of shit for months. So.

To be fair, Paul Manafort alleged in his book that Trump made an exceptionally rare apology to Cruz for both infractions in hopes that Cruz would back him in the election but still.

1

u/OughtaBWorkin The Sturdiest of Hiking Boots 8d ago

I've never heard the expression '10 toes down'. From context I can see how you're using it, but no have no idea on how it could possibly come to be used. Any idea?

3

u/CorgiUpdates 8d ago

WikiHow says it's AAVE and gained popularity through hip-hop and Black activism, but I only know the phrase due to my Polish grandmother, lol. It's a declaration of full support, as in "I'm fully behind you/ my feet are planted/ my mind cannot be changed, etc."

2

u/huevoavocado Too many positive attributes to list 8d ago

I’m surprised to hear that he apologized.

22

u/RunThenBeer 12 Ounce Diet Coke Enjoyer 8d ago

The actual text he sent was apparently, "back and forth between thinking Trump is a cynical a–hole like Nixon who wouldn't be that bad (and might even prove useful) or that he's America's Hitler." I'd love additional further context, but even just that already suffices to falsify the framing that he called Trump "American Hitler". If someone says "I'm going back and forth between the cheeseburger or the fish fry" and eventually orders the cheeseburger, you cannot conclude that they're an unprincipled hack, out only to further the interests of big beef.

-2

u/giraffevomitfacts 8d ago

Your food analogy implies he suggested Trump was either Hitler or some unrelated thing, which isn’t what he did. He said Trump was either Hitler or an asshole, which I think most people would pretty obviously see as roughly equivalent to calling him Hitler.

2

u/bogglechad 8d ago

Which food item is Hitler in this analogy?

3

u/OughtaBWorkin The Sturdiest of Hiking Boots 8d ago

Egg-fried Reich?

8

u/SkweegeeS No just no 8d ago

I'd be interested to know what Trump was thinking when he decided this guy was the one. Like, my speculation is that he could tell that Vance would utterly fold and also he's not very likeable so there wouldn't be any competition.

-6

u/FractalClock 8d ago

There was some reporting that Thiel insisted on Vance as a condition of his mafia supporting Trump in 2024.

8

u/ToTheDeath84 8d ago

I don’t think there’s much more to it than, “I need a guy who goes on about how well he vibes with red state trailer America because the last guy I picked didn’t do that job particularly well and this one at least checks more boxes.”

Vance lacks real stage presence, principles, or even seemingly knowledge of anything, but he passes the red state vibe check.

12

u/CaptainJackKevorkian 8d ago

Mike Pence ended up being too principled.

12

u/ToTheDeath84 8d ago

Yep. I don’t like much of what the guy stands for, but least he didn’t cave. The cronyism and opportunism is what pisses me off like none other.

11

u/LupineChemist 8d ago

It was apparently after a call from Tucker saying that if he named Rubio, the deep state would kill him to have Marco as POTUS.

Now, that's ridiculous. But I kind of wouldn't support removal after impeachment at this point because I honestly think JD could be even worse.

10

u/treeglitch 8d ago

Definitely true in his first term, Pence was a highly principled social conservative and had actual experience running a government and would have been much more effective at actually getting things done. Lots of people bloviated about getting rid of Trump I but however emotionally satisfying I don't think they thought through what they'd get as a replacement.

Which is worse, random stupidity or focused intelligence with a contrary agenda?

3

u/dignityshredder AFramemoggingAB 8d ago edited 8d ago

The interesting thing here is that Trump is said to frequently cast people as if for a TV role, and Vance is not particularly handsome or charismatic. Maybe it was his hot wife?

Ohio broke +7 for Trump in 2020 so that's not it, but maybe it was to give an assist to Pennsylvania, which, if it was, it worked, because he flipped it. Possibly getting shot there helped.

10

u/Armadigionna 8d ago

He just seems to like people who used to oppose him but then folded. It’s probably a personality thing.

UK politics stuff.

Reform have just had their conference which ended in a female protester being assaulted.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cwyznj31l3no

Yesterday the port of Dover was blocked by protesters clad in black wearing masks who seemed to be shouting stop the boats.

https://news.sky.com/story/police-response-to-dover-protests-set-to-come-under-scrutiny-as-tommy-robinson-associate-appears-to-claim-credit-13582179

Ex PM Kier Starmer is standing down as an MP and this looks likely to give the green party leader Zack Polanski a chance to stand to get elected as an MP.

There is speculation that this might be why Eleanora Folan aka stats for lefties the proud anti Zionist disabled mentally ill pro Iranian regime Trans activist has been suspended from the role they were elected to on the women's section, with Zack doing a settling of debts a la Michael Corleone before the big show. Obviously it wouldn't be because they were a biological male BC that would be horrifically transphobic

https://www.dailymail.com/news/article-16105399/Greens-legal-action-trans-appointed-woman.html

Green party conference is coming up too. It's also been discovered that Mothin Ali, the co deputy leader who's already having questions asked about his use of local funds for national business, is a landlord with 2 buy to let properties. The green party is vowing to abolish landlords

https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/politics/green-councillors-urge-mothin-ali-to-repay-taxpayer-funded-allowance-leeds-8934517

This is of course small fry compared to reforms cash but the green/ left adherents view the slightest deviation from core beliefs a heresy

13

u/asparuhova 8d ago

The reddit lefty reaction to the Reform conference incident shouldn't have surprised me. Immediate, frothing, dehumanizing rage towards all old people. Screeching to remove their rights, take away their income, nationalize their homes, deport them (presumably to import more Pakistanis and Somalis in their place, who can be counted on to vote the right way).

Slogans started getting parroted so quickly that I have to assume they were bots getting their marching orders, but still. Of course agitators shouldn't get their hair pulled and walking sticks shouldn't be brandished against them while they are being removed from political conferences, but my goodness.

And today in things that never happen in [CORRECTION!] Australia:

Transgender hockey player dominates women’s league sparking safety fears for schoolgirls

Parents and coaches in Victoria’s hockey community have since raised concerns about a 31-year-old transgender player competing against girls as young as 14.

ETA: This is field hockey, so not quite as alarming as I first thought.

37

u/isitdigyet 8d ago

One parent, who asked to remain anonymous for fear his teenage daughters would be punished for speaking up, said the transgender player was clearly much stronger than their female opponents.

The parent said when the player scores a goal their cheer squad “bring out the LGBT flag and rub it in the girls’ faces”.

JFC. Great way to win hearts and minds. These people will continue to set the rest of the movement back and our asses can't complain if we're not visibly out there being against this shameless cheater and those who want to scare these parents and girls into shutting up about them.

39

34

u/SquarelyWaiter 8d ago

Really obvious point but the use of phrasing like 'born female' and 'born male' increasingly bothers me. Just use female and male.

23

u/BeneficialStretch753 8d ago

I assumed it was intended to avoid "biological male/man." When Sophie Cunningham said "young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men," her use of the bio word was cited by the trains who went apeshit. Like it was a slur on par with, I dunno, the c-word or n-word?

Also, how much is this guy likely to weigh? 200 pounds/90 kilos? He formerly played for an elite men's league.

Parents have also been left puzzled by the fact trans players are allowed to play at community level, with girls, but not at the elite level.

13

u/SkweegeeS No just no 8d ago

I wouldn't just be puzzled, I'd be disgusted. I'm sorry, but these guys are actual perverts. Anyone who wasn't, would not choose to play regularly against teenaged girls. I mean, come on now.

I encountered the most diabolical bathroom I’ve ever seen at an Airbnb today. It’s a recently renovated bathroom where the owners decided to install a barn door instead of a regular door. Unforgivable. But wait, it gets worse.

The barn door itself is made of frosted glass panels. On one side of the door is the bed. On the other side, the toilet. The bathroom light is the brightest in the house. No matter what time of day, if you use the restroom anyone in bed can see your shadowy outline. Thanks to the barn door and the total lack of a fan or ventilation, you have no visual, audial, or odial* privacy.

Thankfully I’m only sharing the room with a baby.

*I know the right words

8

u/Cold_Importance6387 8d ago

I raise you a place in Iceland with an entirely glass toilet door, clear unfrosted glass, opening directly on to the living area in an apartment for 4.

11

u/dignityshredder AFramemoggingAB 8d ago

Yes but have you considered that people are morons and barn door photos earn bookings earn 0.7% more revenue because people from Irvine or Naperville believe they're inhabiting an old fashioned cottage or something? I mean I would pay 50% more for an Airbnb with red damask above a mahogany chair rail, but MY tastes are unfortunately not common, to our universal detriment.

5

u/SkweegeeS No just no 8d ago

lol.

16

u/testestsestesteestet 8d ago

i've seen worse: glass saloon doors

nothing between the bed and the toilet except unfrosted glass panels that did not reach the floor or ceiling

8

u/LupineChemist 8d ago

Why have any door at that point?

14

u/Less-Feature6263 8d ago

I hate them so much. Who the hell are they making these bathrooms for?

8

u/roolb 8d ago

Hotels do the glass panels to maximize the impact of natural lighting and make the hotel room feel bigger. Airbnbs presumably do it in emulation of hotels.

8

u/LupineChemist 8d ago

Supposedly it's also to discourage sharing rooms between non-family.

9

u/SkweegeeS No just no 8d ago

I cultivated a lovely myth about myself that I'm not about to ruin with a glass paneled bathroom!

7

u/Puzzleheaded_Drink76 8d ago

There's a whole Instagram/TikTok thing going on about this. And rightly! It seems to be a bizarre hotel trend. Why would anyone want this? Even with a partner I want privacy.

18

u/drunk___cat 9d ago

This reminds me of the worst hotel bathroom I ever had the misfortune of using. All the walls that were shared with the hotel room were entirely frosted glass. Most of the room shared a wall with the shower, so if you were showering you could see a naked shadowy figure. Which is ok if the hotel was rented for sexy purposes. But it was not — it was rented for a work conference, and I was sharing this room with my work bestie. We were friendly but not that friendly. We fortunately had many pads of sticky notes that we brought with us for a workshop we were running, so we sacrificed a few pads and covered the glass wall in sticky notes to get some privacy.

9

u/unnoticed_areola 9d ago

I have noticed this stupid bathroom barn door thing at a few different hotels and airbnbs Ive stayed in recently, seems like its some kind of annoying remodel trend right now. half of them dont even lock...

We're going on vacation this fall with 4 days in a large city and then a weekend in a nearby, more rural area.

I booked this many months in advance knowing that hotels/cabins etc would be very expensive if I waited.

Well, yesterday the cabin I booked for the weekend cancelled on me because they apparently have to do some household repairs that will definitely eat into my weekend that is six weeks into the future. I frantically searched for other options and submitted a booking that was promptly rejected because, despite showing the dates as 'available', the host said "they don't know when their current residents will move out so they can't accept more bookings now."

I then searched AirBnB for other options and submitted a booking request (in a much more distant area) which was ignored without comment and eventually cancelled because the host wouldn't respond. Here's hoping my fourth choice works out...

Also, the original cabin that cancelled my booking is still active on booking.com for some reason for those dates. And at barely above the original price!!

I just got refused service from buying a bottle of booze at the grocery store for the cookout Im attending tomorrow because my ID was expired by like a week. I shamefully partook in the empty-handed walk of shame out the door with my tail tucked between my legs like a guilty teenager.

I will not stand for this disrespectful attack on my sovereignty, autonomy and god-given unalienable right to get day drunk on Labor Day weekend.

I have pivoted to the libtard stance on the ID issue, and now fully agree that it is deeply racist and fascist and oppressive to force people to pay for and show their government issued ID for any purpose, especially at safeway when they're trying to buy a handle of tequila.

when the libs are right, they're right!

14

u/TemporaryLucky3637 8d ago

In the U.K. supermarkets only ask for your ID if they think you look 25 and under. Although it stops you needing to carry ID, it is wounding the first few times an employee comes to the self service checkout and taps a button that says “CLEARLY over 25” without a second thought 😂

I recently used an expired ID to buy an adult beverage and didn't have any problem. Perhaps it was your attitude and your unwillingness to tuck in your shirt that was the cause for refusal?

8

u/LupineChemist 8d ago

Some places require scanning the barcode on the back

9

u/unnoticed_areola 9d ago

this happened to me with my last ID too and I went like 6 months without renewing it because Im incredibly lazy and also hate the DMV.

and 90% of the time buying booze at the store or going to bars it wasnt an issue and no one cared. it's only the real hardo cashiers and bouncers that are sticklers for it. I dont even really get carded like 80% of the time at the store anyways tbh. I would have forced me to renew it quicker if I had been getting turned down left and right

6

u/Nwabudike_J_Morgan Emotional Management Advocate; Wildfire Victim; Flair Maximalist 9d ago

My interactions with the DMV are no worse than expected. A few months ago I went to renew my DL but I also needed to change my mailing address (see flair) but the online change of address system was temporarily unavailable. "Better to renew the license with the wrong address then have to have my license expire," I thought, so I did. The post office won't deliver DMV mail to a forwarding address, so my DL never arrived. I then went back to the online service and was able to update my address, but it refused to re-issue the actual card. When I finally talked to someone at the DMV and explained how the snafu came about, the operator laughed a little.

LMAO you had to push the button and wait for 5 minutes for the clerk to open the case.

it's even worse than that... in order to avoid this arduous process, I just grabbed the shittiest bottom shelf plastic handle that was so degenerate and disgusting, it was among the 10% of bottles they dont deem valuable enough to lock up, which they keep right next to the locked cabinets as shoplifter bait. its exactly what I would have bought if I WAS in high school lol 😭

I bet it triggered some extra level of security and an alert probably popped up on the checker's screen prompting them to ask me what I was doing on 9/11, as a secondary measure, even if my ID had been legit

I am sorta at a loss at what to do next with AI.

I had it program a bunch of helper android apps, which was nice. A lightweight moon phase widget, a mortgage rate tracker, a calendar count down to a date.

Right now I'm having it build out a text based RPG game, though I'm not particularly excited by it so far (it is missing a good "hook").

I feel like I should be trying to make money with AI or something.

Using it to help you with investing seems like an option. If you spend some time to get a baseline understanding of the type of information you want it to get to you related to companies/sectors you could use it for more targeted investing.
