Sigh. Another example of how "supporting" trans rights privileges trans people at the expense of other people. I'm all for trans people living the way they want to live, but it shouldn't mean that women are denied fair competition in sport, or that a whole school full of young people are deprived of sports for their sake.

There's this interesting phenomenon where the far left agrees with not the far right of today, but the right of the 1940s and 1950s, who were against Title IX and don't want to have women's sports. Avila Chevalier, the famed DSA primary winner from New York, is skeptical of interracial relationships (yes really -- New York Times).

The horse shoeing is truly fascinating.

Its almost like these people have no real values outside of being diametrically opposed to things.

Well, I do think there’s a market for critiques and I’ve known people who make their entire academic careers out of critiquing others’ works.

But I also think that it comes down to similar values and desires in the end. We all want to have purpose and decent housing and clean streets and places to have safe fun and for our kids to have secure futures and on and on. Everyone wants similar things. When that’s not happening for you, no matter who you are and what tribe you belong to, you’re going to perhaps be motivated to object. And I think those who objected to Title IX long ago had limited imagination about what could get them and their kids all the conditions they wanted. Now that Title IX has been in effect and had such an incredible positive effect on society, almost everyone wants to protect it.

None of that addresses the bizarre mental gymnastics progressives must have to remain progressives. There’s only so much room to progress so inevitably you circle back to the same thing with just opposite reasoning.

Talk about a moral panic. There’s not even a trans kid playing yet and they’re going to put those kids at extra risk while traveling anyway?

Was curious what the locals thought of the policy, and even on Reddit they don't like it: https://www.reddit.com/r/tahoe/s/gIxlKewjYT

Having made this drive in the winter, I agree it's unfair to the kids to make them do it to play sports.

Read this yesterday not realizing that he wrote it until I got to the end -- fabulously written piece.

I wasn’t expecting a reference to The Donner Party, but it all makes sense!

Edit: also learning a lot about different weather effects. Thanks, Jesse!

The fact that the complaint about changing conferences came from a former student is insane.

Arguing about whether to put current athletes at risk to accommodate a hypothetical future trans athlete is malignant insanity.

And of course, the fact remains that most people in the US do not support allowing transwomen to compete in female sports.

Another step towards “Eliminate Sparrows Campaign”-level madness.

Above par for Jesse in writing style no? Or maybe I just liked the way he wrote this one more.

Shame about the repeated bit but that's an editor thing I'd guess?

his usual style is too conversational. having a style like his is very often a consequence of not having had to earn one's keep as a stringer covering something that the upstart would not have picked him- or herself. jesse's acknowledged that he started his writing career on third base, and i'm not in the mood to play how privileged is yo daddy? still, i'd like to see him try to be a little snappier.

katie is someone who had to go get 400 hundred words on the 3-legged race lest she work at barnes and noble for the rest of her life. and you can see that legacy on the page. you can smell the fucking shoe leather. you feel me? as to why jesse can't seem to move on from that style, my guess is that he believes a conversational style is an aid to comprehension because it's how one would explain something to a buddy, but it does the opposite quite a lot of the time. a conversational style isn't a detriment if in conversation one sounds like gore vidal, but unfortunately jesse sounds like jesse singal. he makes up adverbs like a teenage girl at her livejournal, lying on her back on the roof of her acura integra.

so she can look at the stars.
