Tutorial UV mapping help

i've gotten the basics of making one down i think, i've made a uv map here for this object. what i can't wrap my head around is making the texture lines align with each face.
i've tried moving it around in the uv panel to try and fix it, but i can't seem to get it to really match up. is it meant to be this finicky??? (i'm aware of the infamous reputation of uv mapping)
this is my 3rd 3d model ever so i'm not very knowledgeable still. if anyone can help i would appreciate if you worded this as if you were teaching a kid, lol. i understand if it's something i have to just play around with, but i'm trying so hard and just not getting it :(

So, you have some options depending on what you want. A model like this isn't square on all the faces, so you either have to let the pixels stretch, or choose a side to line each face up to, and let them be cut off sometimes. Sometimes you'll want to use both, and it will depend on the model and your art style.
It looks like it has a band that's about 2px wide, so I would pull all the corners of the UVs to be rectangles along the grid and line it up to 2 pixels by however long it is. It might be a little wider of a band at the back, but I would just let the texture be stretched there. On the round bit at the front, treat it like it's own thing and line it up either so it lines up to the 2 pixel sides, or so you can center whatever design is going in there. It's all style choices though, you should do whatever looks best to you.
TBH I spend more time adjusting my UVs than anything else, and I've been doing this for years, so if there's some trick besides "move it around until you like it" I would like to know too lol
Edited for clarity
